Ask and we'll try our best to assist - so here's 2024 Provisional AFL Draft Order

As normal, would like to acknowledge & thank Lore for creating this, keeping it up to date and making it available for all users on BF to use and keep track of the picks ahead of the upcoming draft

I'll also sticky this post to ensure it's easily accessible for discussion of our hypothetical trader

Also,

2024 Free Agency Period

The AFL introduced free agency at the end of the 2012 season, giving players another vehicle where they can transfer from one club to another. Free agency is a common form of player movement in major football and sporting codes around the world.

Free Agency Closes: Friday October 11 at 5.00pm

Continental Tyres AFL Trade Period

I think the weather will play a big part in the final decision on SDK. The forecast rain is now pushing out to Sunday morning but I suspect we're looking at dewy / slippery conditions later in the game.

Danaher has only kicked 1 goal in his last 3 games as you point out, but I recall 2 of those games being in the wet. The game earlier this year at the Gabba was horrendous and effectively made the talls useless. I don't envy the match committee having to make this decision.

I'm still triggered by the Collingwood final a few years back when Scott admitted he thought it was going to rain and they left Stanley out. That didn't end well.

And Shannon Neale being a late omission against the Dogs at Kardinia Park in wet not that long ago when we got flogged wasn't a great move. Wet or not Joe Daniher has only kicked 'one goal' in his last 220 minutes and 3 games of playing footy on SDK. SDK is more than capable of playing on Joe Daniher or a Harris Andrews if he's causing problems, of whom both are vitally important players to the Lions if they have any chance of winning but SDK can also pinch-hit in ruck if Reece Stanley is 'off'. We can win without SDK but that's not my preference.

Any significance to be attached to Geelong publicly declaring interest in Bailey Smith? I wonder if others are hovering, or whether Smith is looking beyond Geelong?

He wont announce us until our season ends, its a respect thing…..so not until after we win the flag 😉

Kennedy is just too slow, couple years ago he had a role at senior level but now hes basically just a complete liability much like Parfitt, only positive is he actually has a bit of forward craft if its essentially just a swap I dont hate it quite as much as initially hes a better and more well rounded player than Parfitt albeit not saying much.

I wouldn't describe Kennedy as slow, probably about average pace and he seems to cover a lot of ground. He's also a significantly better kick than Parfitt, and at 188cm he might be the big body we need in the middle.

Probably just couldn't be bothered flat-batting it and treating us like fools since the Dogs season is over.

Just about every single person in the world knows we are into Smith.

It seems odd behaviour to have an event to launch your product, and when the press arrive to give you valuable coverage you give them the bird straight up??!

I just look at it, that he would be better than a Willis/Wiltshire etc... so the lower players on the list, so as a free hit to have if you need it can't hurt?

I also never look at things in terms of stats/analytics etc so I may view things differently to plenty of others. If someone is a DFA and they play games in my view it is a bonus I have low expectations on someone coming in from that position... I am fully aware of Stengle in that situation as well but his case is an outlier not the norm, so no harm in looking at it for me
The difference is Willis would be on peanuts. It's waste to spend much of your cap on someone who might end up in the VFL. If Martin is also willing to play for low $$$, I wouldn't be opposed. Although I don't know what role he'd actually play for us.

I doubt he comes here would be a lot of effort and a waste of a list space just for a player to be spending 80% of his time at the club in the VFL

I don't have an issue with him playing VFL, as long as he's not costing us much.

We've had good success with some recycled players (Isaac Smith, Rohan), and maybe broke even with some others (Dahlhaus), but there have also been plenty that haven't worked (Jenkins, Crameri, McIntosh etc.). You have to take a few swings to get some hits in this area. If he is on $250-300k (which granted, he may not agree to), I think it's relatively low risk for a couple of years considering we may have quite a few retirements and the alternative is pick 80. But if he wants a decent salary, he can find another suitor.

I'm not sure where we'd play him though. He wouldn't get a game in our forward line, unless they think he could play wing/half back.

Rohan, Hawkins, Guthrie all happened to end up in the VFL this season. Bews sat there for much of it and has been a handy in. Don’t see it happening but if we do bring him in we’ll have a plan I’m sure.

No shit have no idea where that suggestion even came from club loves him and hes never been a mummys boy likes to stand on his own two feet he just got injured at the wrong time and was coming form a long way back fitness base wise.

Plus he loves the Surf coast.
Siblings all live down in Torquay.

If anything, Tom is more a danger to leave the Blues than Sam is to leave the Cats.

That evil stand on the mark rule... Tore down an entire empire apparently

The Canadian Cats Mafia strikes again! STPer18 knows all of the inside established members.

That's right Tiggies fans, we run the AFL at every level even on an international level.
And there's nothing you can do about it

Canadian Cats mafia!
