Ask and we'll try our best to assist - so here's 2024 Provisional AFL Draft Order

As normal, would like to acknowledge & thank Lore for creating this, keeping it up to date and making it available for all users on BF to use and keep track of the picks ahead of the upcoming draft

I'll also sticky this post to ensure it's easily accessible for discussion of our hypothetical trader

Also,

2024 Free Agency Period

The AFL introduced free agency at the end of the 2012 season, giving players another vehicle where they can transfer from one club to another. Free agency is a common form of player movement in major football and sporting codes around the world.

Free Agency Opens: Friday October 4 at 9.00am
Free Agency Closes: Friday October 11 at 5.00pm

Continental Tyres AFL Trade Period

Trade Period Opens: Monday October 7 at 9.00am
Trade Period Closes: Wednesday October 16 at 7.30pm

The issue won't be pick 13 Vs pick 15. First and foremost the player has to nominate where he wants to go and it's hard to see that situation alone (draft pick differential of 2 places) being the reason he changes tact completely and chooses Hawks over Cats.
yeah, that's kinda what I was getting at.

I could see a manager going "Look, are you set on X because Y is better able to satisfy the trade request" - but not over something as small as that.

Doubt Hawthorn offers anything over and above the Cats except cash - but....even then.

Guess we'll see. I must admit I'm getting a bit impatient about it :p

Where is this "SDK was so out of form" dribble coming from? He was a KPD up until Rd 14. He never had a bag kicked on him, in my assessment his form was perfectly fine. Are posters on here explaining his move into the ruck due to him being out of form as a KPD? Because that is a reach and honestly there's not much evidence.

Also, your "he finished the year in the VFL" is a little misleading without providing the context.
Perhaps bring this up with Chriss Scott who basically said this was the reason they moved him into the ruck

"We're so optimistic about the player he can be. In my mind, he's been one of the really high-level players in the competition. But like us, he's just not there at the moment... Getting him up around the ball a bit more might get him a spark that he and we needed. This is an aggressive move, and not one without risk"

FWIW no way I'd entertain trading him unless it were to get us someone like Butters. But not just some on here that think he had a dip in form this year.

All the carry on about SDK is getting a bit boring on this thread to be honest. He's not going anywhere.

I think a few supporters (and media nuffies) are using recency bias when thinking about this bloke. Yes he finished the year in the VFL - Yes he missed a spot in our finals matches. But we all know the reasons why.

I swear if we traded him then the first time we lose a match someone will have you believe it was the worst decision the club has ever made - and why hasn't the club invested more time into finding 203cm key defender or swing ruckman.

Trust the club - trust the process.

Hawks would be giving that pick up for Barrass so the best they could give is a future first which i doubt they want to use if possible

Is it possible the AFL has asked all parties to delay an announcement in a bid to create some 'excitement' for the draft?

It'll be one hell of a prank if Smith suddenly sings a different tune this late in the set......

The only reason he was playing VFL was because he got hurt at the exact wrong time

Chris Scott -

"Sam is probably an example of our need to be a little bit creative," Scott said.

"We're so optimistic about the player he can be. In my mind, he's been one of the really high-level players in the competition. But like us, he's just not there at the moment.

"Getting him up around the ball a bit more might get him a spark that he and we needed. This is an aggressive move, and not one without risk...

..."Again, it's an investment in the future for us and an investment in Sam as well. We need to get him up and going, playing his best footy. We thought [the move] was the best thing to help with that.

Because he wants to move to Sydney but is waiting to see what happens with Longmire & if Parker would be happy with moving to the Dogs rather than North

I suggested Sydney a day or two ago with but Hamling returning to Melbourne

These few days until the FA period opens and then trade time actually starts is the most boring part of the season as it's all speculation until things can finally be set & locked

FA and Trade period should be 1 week total at most

I'm happy for the FA period to open on say the Thursday until the following Monday (only cause AFL House is closed on weekends) - let's be honest, if your an FA then you know if your staying or wanting to sign with your new club, and if your signing with your new club then you're already aware of the contract terms

Trade period can then open on that same Monday and it closes 2pm the following Monday (again cause AFL house is closed on weekends, so no deals can be finalised)

And scrap RFA - a player is either a FA or not, that way there's no matching to worry about

I'm not sure how many deals we'll get done but lot's of speculation around club land / recruiters that Geelong are cooking up something.

We're best just to keep an open mind that anything is possible. As much as S Wells is the guru of recruiting - I reckon A Mackie is as cunning as a urinal rat and will be planning a heist of some sorts.

I could deal with this as long as it gets shortened some how.

And yes a FA should be FREE FFS
