Here's 2024 Provisional AFL Draft Order

Cheers to Lore for their hard work in setting this up, and making it available for all users on BF to use and keep track of the picks ahead of the upcoming draft - and please practice patience grasshoppers if it's not updated in the immediate aftermath of completed trade

I'll also sticky this post to ensure it's easily accessible for discussion of our hypothetical trader

Also,

Oct 17 to Nov 8: Pick swap window
Nov 1 to Nov 8: Delisted free agency period

Not all of them, been some very reasonable types visit our board for sure, and there's some good types over their way too.

The unhinged one wishing harm on Smith, Mackie, etc and then clinging to the idea of getting this ridiculous haul though, I stand by what I said.

It's just footy, it's never that serious.
Someone over there wishing Smith becomes a Menzel… classy

Doggies fans already turning on Sam Power. Glorious.

In defence of Power, we all knew this was going to be the deal (or something thereabouts).

The Dogs idiots who thought it was going to be SDK, Close, a pick in the top 10, or two firsts have only got themselves to blame.

Direct your anger at yourselves, not the posturing list manager just riding the contrived trade period wave.

I know he said the whole "we want a top 10 pick" thing, but it was no different to us asking for pick 8 for Clark.

Shoot for the stars, work from there. If you believe him, or convince yourself you're getting more, then you're a moron.

What is their problem… dont they understand the system?

If theyb want two R1 picks ..or something like it…they should have trade him last year before the knee and while contracted

I've read worse - following the initial announcement two weeks ago of Smith wishing to be traded to Geelong, I read wishes of words starting with 'd'

Wow...this ended up being quite amusing. We gave a bit extra, but literally the minimum we could give.

So the breakdown is this:

OUT:

Geelong - Pick 17, Pick 38
Carlton - Matt Kennedy
Western Bulldogs - Bailey Smith, Jack Macrae
St Kilda - Pick 45

IN:

Geelong - Bailey Smith, Pick 45
Carlton - Pick 38
Western Bulldogs - Pick 17, Matt Kennedy
St Kilda - Jack Macrae

Now what makes this utterly hilarious, is that between 38 and 45, FIVE of those picks are bid matches for Kako, Ashcroft/Marshall, Lombard

So in essence, we've swapped Pick 38 for Pick 40. Deal ends up being: Bailey Smith and Pick 40, for Pick 17 and 38.

Incred.
Knowing how we tend to approach the later stages of the draft, and the fact it’s only 2 spots back in reality… I’ll bet any money that we end up taking the same player we would’ve anyway.

Which means it really was just pick 17.

Your wish is my command :)

27, 28, 31, 34, 39, 40, 41, 42, 43, will all get soaked up. Ashcroft, Lombard, Kako, Marshall will all get bids. Our first pick will be...drumroll please...

Pick 40.

The machinations on that are probably a little irrelevant as Wellsy will have his eye on someone that doesn't make a single phantom draft

I think I’ve maintained all along at the end of the day, we all know Bailey is worth more than the 17 that was traded but it’d be foolish of Geelong to offer anymore considering the very small risk involved with getting him at that pick in the draft, you don’t win premierships with pleasantries so expecting anymore was foolish.

Trading Smith and Macrae for Kennedy and pick 17, then fleecing North for pick 25 for Caleb Daniel all the while saving 1.6m in salary cap space is probably a good result in the end.

It’s been very pleasant in this thread over the last few weeks. Thanks for all the welcoming chats and wish you all a happy off season!

Its hard to win announcing a player is contracted ..and still drive a deal to the death with an uncontracted…. add the quality of the draft ..which would mean most would hate to miss on a kid and our offer being within a range that the player would get to …. it was never going to be much more. It was a bit silly with the top10 picks stuff..probably elevated expectations..
