Here's 2024 Provisional AFL Draft Order

Cheers to Lore for their hard work in setting this up, and making it available for all users on BF to use and keep track of the picks ahead of the upcoming draft - and please practice patience grasshoppers if it's not updated in the immediate aftermath of completed trade

I'll also sticky this post to ensure it's easily accessible for discussion of our hypothetical trader

Also,

2024 Draft and Trade Period Key Dates

Oct 17 to Nov 8: Pick swap window
Nov 1 to Nov 8: Delisted free agency period
Nov 20-21: Telstra AFL Draft
Nov 22: Telstra Pre-Season Draft and Rookie Draft

It seems that way to me … and then go with COS and add a backman. SDK is moving into his mid 20’s ..so he is no longer young. With a full preseason training the role .. what is his ceiling ?

I like it.

They must have liked enough of what they saw of SDK in the ruck to say this is absolutely worth exploring. Hopefully Conway to play 10 - 15 games next year. He's definitely shown he is capable at the level. SDK as second ruck, moving from defence or even forward feels like a really nice pairing. When only one of them plays we have Blics and Neale to provide the 2nd ruck role.

I wouldn't want to take dodson with an earlyish pick as we have Conway, SDK & Edwards as our projects already. Totally OK to take a Blakiston or Knobel super late or in the rookie draft. Knobel we could get as a delisted free agent too. Even bringing a muture prospect into our VFL fold as a break in case of emergency at the mid season draft would be clever.

Anything can happen in draft … “but” … unless Hotton slips into the 20’s I think we struggle to get him. If I was Rich ..and they have had a truckload of picks … I wonder if they throw a pick at a kid like him .. or trade it to us ..we take him.

I imagine the cats have had conversations with clubs like Richmond, GWS and co about the potential of trading up. We'd have an idea of what's possible and a player in mind for each potential pick swap. I.e. Hotton at 15 or 21, 23 or 24. But similarily, it's highly likely given what mackie said about clubs wanting FR2 & FR3's, that there is a player we might want to move up into the late 20's / 30's that might be more of a bolter. I find it hard to imagine we can get anyone to move out before pick 23 or 24 with Richmond.

Also just back the team to only trade up with a specific target in mind. Worked with Holmes and absolutely happy for them to pay a bit to get the player they want.

If we could trade up for pick 15 is there is a chance Sam Lalor could slide to there?

No chance he won't get past Richmond's 10 and 11 and might go top 3.

Does Lalor have much higher ceiling than Hynes?

I reckon Hynes looks a great pick at back end of 1st round...
Its not unusual to see well studied assessment at u18 eventually look daft however ...

When Lalor played forward…he looked to have Martin , Dangerfield type attributes….

Hynes looks good …its hard to gauge about how good. but id say Lalor looks more atm… but Hynes would be in a group id be happy to trade into the draft for.

I swear every time an in demand player is in discussions with Freo they sign on with their current club almost immediately.

Would suck being a saints fan

There is a lack of quality Free Agents …. it pumps the price to stay , it pumps the price to go to highly aspirational clubs … make it tough for the likes of the Saints. They have to find a way to get back to that 2009 level … how…. thats there problem ..as there are no Priority picks now and two extra teams and one more coming...

If you could have one for the cats… who you want??

I reckon Jagga will be the best one of the lot so him, reckon his peak will be highest

FOS while i'm sure will be good has been living off of the hype of his previous seasons.
Reckon he has the higher bust potential of the three, could make me look real stupid though so meh?

Reckon Lalor has a good chance to be great and probably most consistent of the three.

Jagga: Lowest ceiling, highest floor. Might never be a top 10 player in the comp type, but highly unlikely that he'll be a bust IMO.

Lalor: Highest ceiling, lowest floor. He's either going to end up in the Petracca, Martin, & Heeney mold, or he's going to be Jake Stringer/Cam Rayner for mine. Just seems to be the way with these players, and I'd back our development to get the best out of him.

FOS: Goldilocks of the three.

I'd probably take Lalor if given the choice. We have an accumulator in Baz now, Holmes & Dempsey with outside speed, drive, & creativity, with Bruhn & Clark as contested foot soldiers.

I don't believe we have that strike player who can play as a clearance mid, and then drag his man to the goalsquare on our list, minus an ageing Danger.

Someone like Hynes could be a budget option of Lalor in that regard, although he is bolting so it would cost a bit now.

We'd be thrilled with any of the three though in reality. They all seem like good kids, just got to hope they get sick of losing and see the light in a couple years.

Agree with all that … especially we would love to have the chance to pick who ever was left …. I like Lalor and Langford

Forgetting his 20M time which I think was slow-ish … when I look at his Champs highlights Langford just about offers everything we like in a mid… can gut run , very good over head, big moment type , has a step in the phone box , good by foot etc…

Any of the names in the top10 would be quality adds for us.. Is Smillie like Cripps in that otehrs will lokk back and say why? Adelaide should grab Draper.. Tauru bit of a wild card. etc...

Its probably why Hotton presents as tasty ..as he is top10 talent and a chance to slide

Its all pipe dream stuff ..we may as well think about who we can target in three years time when out of contract.
