Here's 2024 Provisional AFL Draft Order

Cheers to Lore for their hard work in setting this up, and making it available for all users on BF to use and keep track of the picks ahead of the upcoming draft - and please practice patience grasshoppers if it's not updated in the immediate aftermath of completed trade

I'll also sticky this post to ensure it's easily accessible for discussion of our hypothetical trader

Also,

WILL FALCON BECOME THE LATEST LOCAL CAT?

Geelong Falcons prospect Lachie Jaques was at the Geelong league grand final at GMHBA Stadium as his local side St Mary’s went down to South Barwon in the reserves.

The rebounding defender hopes to be out there as a player next year at his hometown AFL club — based just a couple of drop punts away from St Mary’s Sporting Club.

Jaques has spoken to at least 10 AFL clubs in the lead-up to the draft and hasn’t had a heap to do with the Cats despite their penchant for taking talents from the region.

The Cats have drafted eight prospects from the Geelong region over the past five years — Cooper Stephens, Toby Conway, Mitch Knevitt, Cooper Whyte, Jhye Clark, Ted Clohesy, Oscar Murdoch and Oli Wiltshire — and traded for Falcons exports Tanner Bruhn and Ollie Henry.

Geelong currently holds picks 45 — around Jaques’ draft range — 57 and 75.

Jaques, who models his game on five-time All-Australian Cat Tom Stewart, will happily play for any club.

“That’d be pretty cool going to Geelong,” Jaques said.

“Obviously lived there my whole life and gone for the Cats.

“But yet again, the main goal is just get on a list and be in an AFL environment so whoever that is with, I’d be keen go anywhere.”

Jaques has garnered a lot more attention from clubs after his feats at the national championships where he was named in the U18 All-Australian side, putting him in second-round calculations.

He was the only Geelong Falcons prospect invited to the national draft combine, where he ran the 2km time trial in a strong time of 6 minutes and 37 seconds.

The 184 centimetre halfback earned plaudits for his eye-catching display against the Allies, where he had nine intercepts to go with 22 disposals.

“Saw my Allies game as probably my best game and more people started to talk to me after that.

“Better recognition and a few interviews here and there was good to see the work was getting rewarded.”

Took him in the mock draft I am participating in on the D&T board. Hopefully we can find a way to land him.

What’s evident from participating in this mock draft is that we will potentially struggle to get access to someone like Gerreyn unless we trade back into the draft. He’s one I’m pretty keen on now.

Just finished a walk with the dog.
Just a snippet or two today.
A GFC VFL player will be taken in the rookie draft.
And the nice sweet spot in the draft is in and around the 20-30 mark.
Don't be surprised if we try and sneak into the 30-40 mark for a player if he slips.
If you could have one for the cats… who you want??
Sam Lalor... all day every day.
Would we look at Shanahan?
The big lad from Bendigo... F1st if there is someone willing to trade in the high teens low 20's i'd do in a heartbeat. But i think we have others not much talked about higher in our pecking order.

Those mock drafts can produce some odd results though.

I'm guessing he's a pretty Cool Man

True. But I didn’t get anywhere near him. Of course things could look very different in the real thing but it does show that it’s certainly no fait accompli that he (or Sims even) will definitely be available when we have our first pick.

Ajang Kuol Mun or Pike, maybe?

Or going a shorter stature option

For those keeping track, how many list spots do we currently have open/how many picks can we take in the national draft?

Also do any of our rookies need to be promoted this year?

4 senior 3 rookie.

Could be kuol mun or pike.
Although I wouldn't be against Hughes or Herbert getting a shot.

Still think we take Werribee guys instead.

Herbert would be a good pick.
Last 2 years he has been pretty good.
Since he has moved down back he has been a pretty consistent performer.

Cliff status update:

Current list average age: 26.1 years

List age assuming we add 6x draftees at an average age of 20 and a 26 year old Furphy replacement: 25.3 years

Still would have been second oldest last year
List age doesn't concern me tbh, more so the side we're actually selecting.

We've still got a few who in all likelihood won't be impacting results for us who are skewing that data so to speak, but that's how we roll in terms of staggering retirements.

For instance, guys like Duncan, Stanley, MOC, Martin, & Bews heavily skew that data and are every chance to not be selected in the side if we can have a bit of luck with injury and development, namely Conway.

I hate to say it, but I'd have Cam Guthrie in that category too after the last 18 months. Anything we get out of him is a bonus at this point IMO.

It's different to say Collingwood, where Pendles, Sidebottom, Howe, Mitchell, McStay, Elliot, Mihocek, & Cox will all be playing virtually every week when healthy.

You can arguably throw JDG, Moore, Cameron, & Maynard into that category too now at 29/30 while Naicos will be the only guaranteed best 23 player under 24.

Maybe it says more about them than it does about us, but we're a different product to what we have been in the past IMO, even if the numbers don't look drastically different.

Yeah agree it's not super meaningful, just interesting to track
