Here's 2024 Provisional AFL Draft Order

Cheers to Lore for their hard work in setting this up, and making it available for all users on BF to use and keep track of the picks ahead of the upcoming draft - and please practice patience grasshoppers if it's not updated in the immediate aftermath of completed trade

I'll also sticky this post to ensure it's easily accessible for discussion of our hypothetical trader

Also,

2024 Draft and Trade Period Key Dates

Oct 17 to Nov 8: Pick swap window
Nov 1 to Nov 8: Delisted free agency period
Nov 20-21: Telstra AFL Draft
Nov 22: Telstra Pre-Season Draft and Rookie Draft

We got mannagh who will either play 100 games for us or be traded for a good pick this year.

Caddy is good but I'm not sure structurally him and Henry would have worked together so I'm happy enough with that.
I'm more concerned that we have no ruck solution and no full sized kpf/r2 except neald (caddy can't ruck) and no real depth kpd coming through (which is why COS matters). De koning and neale become very important signatures this year for that reason.
Caddy would be great but I'm happy woth the way things turned out. Not trading with West Coast allowed us to better ream the Bulldogs.

I think the commentary that the top end is weak is wrong. It’s even but not weak. I rate COS super highly but I would trade him for Jagga in a heartbeat. Jagga severely underrated in my opinion and will be a future captain. Very similar player to Butters just less skilful but makes up for it by finding a lot more footy.

Also, Jhye Clark will come good. Everyone worrying shouldn’t. He basically missed the first year so he has been off the pace but what he does right he does really well. Just needs to pull it all together which I think during this next season he will.

I don't know if we really need him either personally, or at least that his type shouldn't be the priority.

Zuthrie, Stewart, Humphries, Bews, Duncan, Mullin, MOC, and now potentially Burke and/or Martin.

Could even argue someone like Atkins or Cuthrie, who may need to be shifted back, or at least that they could do it in a pinch.

That's a lot of players in the general defender category, and it's one of the easiest positions to find and develop too. We've got a good history of that, as do most clubs.

Clarke excites me more out of the two with his potential in other roles if we are to go down that route, but now that he's bolting that may be a pipedream.

Admittedly, at our late picks you should probably just take whoever actually looks like they can make the grade rather than prioritising needs, so if the club believe that's Jaques then fair enough.

I'd be prioritising a key forward though, with us having quite literally nothing developing at VFL level now with Neale being best 22, and Foster delisted.

Wouldn't mind a mid either, preferably one who's above 183cm, but understand that we're likely looking at a Constable/Jansen type at our pick if we are to take that path.

This is the way I feel. The club does a lot more study on the kids than I so trust them to call the right name… and sometimes the right call works and sometimes it doesn’t. A high percentage of picks fail no matter their origins. If ut gets down to two players which are similar and one is from geelong I could understand them going local but I expect we would not go past a player who we think is better just to take geelong.

I think there is an argument that ..if another club takes a Falcon ..then we might be able to look at them at the next level and bring them to the club in trade when OOC. Like Hastie at the Saints ..Id watch and see if he resigns.

Considering needs… and those we have delisted ..and someone like Sims/Burmister and Jaques is there at our P45 then Id probably go tall… but you can only pick who is there. Probably need to see who we pick and who we go past..

till when?

I’m fairly confident that we will have a decent group of names to choose from with at least our first 2 picks. Possibly all 4. I am also fairly confident we will at least attempt to trade either of our F1 or F2 into this draft to secure someone we like.

I think we have to go tall with at least one, probably 2 of our picks. Problem we have is there will be competition for these talls from a few other clubs including the Pies, Port and possibly the Hawks.

With regard to Jaques I’m a bit ambivalent. He’s clearly a terrific intercept mark but I’m a bit concerned with his kicking style albeit that he’s apparently reliable by foot. As others have said, positioning he’s probably not a huge priority but at our end of the draft you just grab the best talent to an extent.

Agree.

I actually like the look of Gabriel Stumpf as a late pick.

Athletic Key Forward that has a bit of mercurial skills, strong 1-1 late to footy. Sounds like a Geelong pick. Would be happy with him at our first pick

I wouldn’t be drafting L Jaques in the draft… rookie maybe at best. Looks very limited and the only reason he gets linked to us is coz he’s a falcon. Hope we’ve learnt our lesson of drafting dud falcons for the sake of it (too many examples to name)
Had Jaques rated around 30 but the more I watch and hear about Angus Clark I think I’d prefer him if we had the chance to pick 1 of them

Yes I agree his kicking looks less than mecurial. Listening to SEN this morning a kid called Charleson is a great kick if thats what we are after. I think sometimes we do focus on what they cant instead what they can … but conversely sometimes what has not been expossed at a lower level finds a kid out when going higher. Its all a bit of a gamble. I remember liking both Guthries but not for what they have delivered at the top level.. so much is about what they can develop into and what they are willing to work on.

The trading idea seems popular ..so Im a bit concerned the comp for trading in will be hot.
