Here's 2024 Provisional AFL Draft Order

Cheers to Lore for their hard work in setting this up, and making it available for all users on BF to use and keep track of the picks ahead of the upcoming draft - and please practice patience grasshoppers if it's not updated in the immediate aftermath of completed trade

I'll also sticky this post to ensure it's easily accessible for discussion of our hypothetical trader

Also,

2024 Draft and Trade Period Key Dates

Oct 17 to Nov 8: Pick swap window
Nov 1 to Nov 8: Delisted free agency period
Nov 20-21: Telstra AFL Draft
Nov 22: Telstra Pre-Season Draft and Rookie Draft

That would be a foolish trade. The reason that Geelong is the most successful club in the AFL over the last 20 years is because they have the best culture not necessarily the best players. In AFL a generational talent like Reid is still only one player and that will never overcome the synergies of 22 committed team players who are thriving in a growth environment. Geelong quite deliberately draft players of great character and are very loyal to them. If you start trading talented players of great character like Humphries who want to be at the club, then that will create a small crack in your elite culture that eventually becomes a chasm and before you know it you will be back in the pack with the other mundane clubs
Well said. Makes me sick seeing how much hero worshipping, as opposed to common sense and club-supporting goes on here at times. No, an individual player doesn’t make that much difference we have to wreck the team to get him in.

G'day boys.
Sorry haven't been an active participant for a bit. I've been laid up for a week or so.
Yesterday... My Dog walker suggested I look at multi positional players.. as that is where we are headed if all falls into place.
A few names talked about.
The Haileybury Captain. "Two dads".
Glenelg's Tall bloke Ramm.
WA On-baller Uruquart?
Shepparton boy. Plays defence/mid. ?? Another Ollie??
Rantall?? W'bool kid, his brother played at Pies... I think??
He did say losing our WA scout has hurt a little. But we still have enough intel to suggest we are going to shop there again.
And remember speed kills... but so do foot skills.
Last thing we talked about was who we are targeting next year rather than the list that will be after draft day.
BS everyone knew about but not early on.
I have spoken about Butters.
Let's hope Ken is gone at years end and so are the boys from Alberton which will enhance our chances 10x fold.
He suggests we are in it up 2 our necks with a few blokes that are not necessary OOC.
More walking needed this week me thinks.
Fingers crossed we can get into the 2nd round with a few picks.
Yeah, a Long shot i know but even a long shot has won 2 of the last 10 Melbourne cups.
Cheers Boys.

Yeah I agree anyone like Herbert is a rookie or ssp. Davidson and hoare have enough interest to go ND.
Boyd-who I was suggesting earlier in the year we target for the MSD, and Blakiston are essentially the same age so I doubt the saints take both but they probably want one. Would we take the other?

Cant say I know either players game well enough… but would Boyds height be an issue?

Just went back and had a look at Nicholls… moves well and has a nice pair of hands…but I think Josh Walker was a better kick than him. The ball drop is a football version of Ipecac syrup ..Id think he would have to improve his kicking out of sight to make it as a a forward.. probably ends up as a intercepting backman..

Part of me wants us to draft him so that I can finally be truthful when yelling "I could kick better than that" at a player

Generally ..I hope we stay away from contracted guys. The more desirable the player …the less leverage we have and the cost will be higher. I find it frustrating that some of these players that like back themselves into a corner with long term contracts then expect to get traded ….

Liked LU in the champs … can run quick and long and gets a lot of the ball …. but he is a bit of a Siketa Meat by foot.

Very good points.

I'm looking at it from a realistic perspective of being able to bring in a player of Reid's magnitude. The fact Lawson has family back in WA helps in this scenario.

Geelong won't be able to win anymore premierships without a superstar midfielder (or two). We will still compete and be thereabouts but it's the brutal fact of this sport.
