Here's 2024 Provisional AFL Draft Order

Cheers to Lore for their hard work in setting this up, and making it available for all users on BF to use and keep track of the picks ahead of the upcoming draft - and please practice patience grasshoppers if it's not updated in the immediate aftermath of completed trade

I'll also sticky this post to ensure it's easily accessible for discussion of our hypothetical trader

Also,

2024 Draft and Trade Period Key Dates

Oct 17 to Nov 8: Pick swap window
Nov 1 to Nov 8: Delisted free agency period
Nov 20-21: Telstra AFL Draft
Nov 22: Telstra Pre-Season Draft and Rookie Draft

I feel like 28 and 31 isn't much upside for a pick that could potentially be top 10 next year. We are carrying all the risk there.
I'd only trade say 45 and a future 2nd to get into the 30s to get Dodson. If he goes at say 18-24 so be it in my view.
Frankly if we are trading a future 1st I'd rather a kpf like shanahan than a ruck.

I don't disagree with some of your points however if we did draft Dodson we will have to look at how we develop these guys in their primary position. I'm not worried about Stanley as he will get the last year cegs treatment (ie will play afl or be rested won't be in vfl much) but if you have Conway Edwards and Dodson in vfl a couple of them will have to play fwd and develop that way. Now the vfl fwd line lacks talls so it's an option but if you take Dodson you would want to be confident he can develop as a fwd as well as a ruck and have versatility like blicavs.

We could do this and then rookie a cheap mature ruck cover for next year (which we need) but I would personally just cover a cheap backup now and see what rucks are available on the trade market next year.
Our record of drafting rucks is horrible. That is probably been our worst drafting position over the years. Our only decent rucks over recent years are players like Barnes, Ottens and Stanley all from other clubs and a couple of them weren't even traded in as rucks. We have drafted players like Hooper, Chambers and Street. Doesn't hold out hope

I suspect the club will prioritise Conway in the ones and have Edwards/Dodson sharing the ruck in the twos. It's probably highly unlikely all three will be fit at the same time anyway.

Very very few if any but I’m not understanding how that’s relevant? I’m not arguing that at all. 18 year old, raw ruckman, Dodson, doesn’t solve our 2025-26 ruck issues which you’ve stated.

It's relevant because you said "but it’s clear Conways body is a huge worry" when he's only 21 years old and has at least another 2-3 years to build.

I never said drafting an 18-year-old ruckman would solve our 2025-26 ruck issues, but having 3x rucks between 18-21 years old probably solves our 2028-30 ruck issues. You don't draft for next year.

Bit harsh given we've hardly drafted any rucks, in the National Draft anyway. We've typically traded them in or rookied them.

Which his body clearlyis if we’re intent on drafting the best ruckman in the draft 4 out of the last 5 years. (Yes I know Neale is now a FWD). Not many ruckman have as many foot injuries in there careers, as Toby has had in 3 years.

My point still stand that as highly rated internally and externally as Conway is, us drafting another highly touted ruckman for 28-30’ shows we don’t have confidence in Conway/Edwards being there.

I mean with Conway's injury record that's probably true. But still my point was if they are all to make it with us long term at least one has to develop as a forward which would give neale some much needed competition anyway.

I wouldn't be doing that trade every draft. But the evenness of this one together with the issue of next years being heavily compromised gives me confidence that a trade with the Bombers is a goer. To walk away with 2 players in the top 35 picks rather than one next year in the mid 20's seems a good deal to me. Particularly if you rate this draft class higher than next years which most do.

I agree this draft has good talent but I think our pick being 20s next year given our age profile is a pretty big assumption.

If we trade up to get Dodson it’s clear that, The club has little faith in Conways body
- The club has little faith in either Edwards body or long term tenure in Vic.
I’d be pretty surprised if we manage to trade up, there are half a dozen teams looking to trade back in with futures and i would think only maybe three clubs want to trade out.
Clubs saw how successful we were with max holmes so they might put us down the pecking order.
Richmond should trade out one of their top 24 picks so they dilute their picks across this year and next. I know its a good draft but i dont think its a great idea to have so many drafted in one year.
