Personally I think Rowell would suit our midfield mix more than Butters. The question is can he be pried away if Gold Coast have a decent year (which they really should, even though so far you can never trust them).

I think Butters is a better player but similar to Holmes / Smith as far a CP / UCP goes. Rowell is really the guy that ticks the CP box that we need.

Lawson is contracted to end of 26.. so yes extend him but the need is lower on him

GO Catters

just want him locked up so the WA teams and Tassie can't have him

Butters is absolutely ferocious in his attack on the footy and player, in similar fashion to a former captain of ours. He has no respect for his own well-being, which is a concern also 😬. May have similar inside outside numbers but I see them as very different players.

Mr Meow.... I'm sure that's the bottom line with Matty Rowell, whether Gold Coast can finally get their act together. If they do, then it's hard to see him going but if they don't, then it's hard to see him staying and there's no doubt that the Geelong midfield and the Geelong Football Club per se is his best relocation point with a great result for both parties. We're young, we're bold, we have spare blocks of land 'up for give-away', we're highly successful and we'd love for Matty Rowell to jump on board and make us a possible power-house all over again, like in days yonder!.... and oh yeah, GO CATS !!!

Rowell is less versatile than butters but I agree suits our specific needs better. Both are guns though.

I reckon he's more damaging than that but it's a pretty recent thing. I think his trade cost would be pretty huge though. Not worth it.

Worpel? He's a free agent no trade.

I like Butters but i'd take Rowell if i had the choice.
Rowell runs both ways, can tag if required and can fill our contested beast requirement that we lose when Danger goes.

Talented ruck Toby Conway has locked away his future at the Cats, securing a two-year deal to keep him in the Hoops until at least the end of 2027.

Of that list...here's what my uninformed opinion thinks!

PLAYERTHOUGHTSDECISION (Stay, Go, 50/50)
MannaghCats played him straight away, he'll repay the faith. Only danger is oppo clubs offering him the World in cash AND a role in their forward line. Teams desperate for gun small forward eg. Doggies, Freo, North50/50 (depending on offers)
KnevittStarting to play now, eventually re-signsStay
EdwardsCats have big plans, gotta lock him up before Freo and Eagles come hunting to bring their boy backStay
O'SullivanMy boy! Cats know how versatile the gazelle is. Listed as a key back when drafted but has the quickness and skill to play multiple roles, don't be surprised if Scotty tries him in different positions down the track.Stay
StevensLocal boy, hard to see him wanting to leave but depending on list spots may get the chop. Good to have at VFL level to set standards.50/50
DeKoningOnly a matter of time. Plenty of reports have him just working on the $$$$ value.Stay
WiltshireCats will see him as insurance for Mannagh if he goes. Don't see him elsewhere.Stay
Ivisic Injured, Will need to prove himself at VFL level once he returns. Depends on list spots50/50
Retchsko Again, depending on list spots. Reckon he gets the chopGo
DempseyHas stated multiple times he loves the club and couldn't see himself elsewhere. I imagine just working on the $$$ value as well.Stay
AtkinsVeteran leader, won't be going anywhereStay
MullinScott and Match Committee see huge value in him. Not going anywhere unless he chooses to go Home.Stay
PikeMay get the chop. Not confident for himGo
ClohesyI think he will get a big pull from other clubs especially Gold Coast to go play with his brother.
Don't think we want to lose him, it depends if someone offers him a guaranteed role elsewhere
50/50

gotta imagine it's low money if they are committing to him before seeing him back playing any sort of footy. win win for both parties.

Yeah i reckon our main objective this year should be to sign the kids we got. Butters has indicated he's staying, Gold Coast will do well enough for Rowell to stay. JUH is such a distressed asset i doubt even think we'd go there.

Outside that can't see anyone that moves the dial

Western Bulldogs inquired about Clohesy last year as part of the Bailey Smith trade. Club rejected that obviously, but hard to know if that was Mackie just playing hard ball / or GFC factoring him into future list management plans (required player)
