Have you forgotten what happened in Victoria's first lockdown which didn't work? Remember, when they tried to just limit it to a few LGAs?

NSW are making the same mistake as Victoria made last year as if they haven't learnt a thing. It's so infuriating that they're hesitating and gambling with people's lives.

The consequence of letting the virus out is far too high (see Victoria 2020) to not be erring on the side of caution. 1,000 Primary close contacts from just one hair-dressers.

Shut it down or bear the consequences.
So, people on Broken Hill need a 5km radius?

Last year the Melbourne lockdown was different to the regional lockdown.

NSW is a lot bigger than Victoria, they could probably go with three tiers. Plenty of truckies drive Syd-Broken Hill.

Broken Hill has 5 beds in its ICU and an elderly population. It would want to be pretty cautious, SA are unlikely to accept COVID-positive ICU patients from Broken Hill.

No. Only when it's statewide, including LGAs that have never had a single covid case ever, it's a lockdown. They'll probably need this eventually, but at least they didn't sh*t the bed, and had a crack at controlling it without fear and panic we see here.
This makes no sense. If they have to go to full lockdown ultimately then by extension that would suggest locking down only a few LGAs was not sufficient. Just as it wasn’t in Melbourne last year.

Shitting the bed? You’d hope they’re not that paralysed by fear of appearances.

That was a mess because there were pockets in between those postcodes that could go about almost normally.

Complete LGA's all connected makes a little bit more sense but probably isn't enough now

Any LGA or Postcode based lockdown is going to have people sharing supermarkets, take-away, essential services and staff from within and without of the lockdown area.

Not disagreeing with you however the fact they are joined it at least makes more sense than Victorian one which had pockets all over the north and west. I doubt it will work this time for Sydney

I go to St Marys Coles. :)

Gladys doesn't even have enforceable mask rules.

NSW police still "investigating" the limo driver even though Premier Berejiklian openly admits the guidelines to wear a mask aren't enforceable (they weren't written in public health order). Police even engaged senior counsel to help find an offence.

Gold standard man.

In Gladys defence she did say the “guidelines” were “clear”

Wow Gladys and Alan Jones seem to know better than the AMA.

AMA president Omar Khorshid isn’t holding back:

Each state has taken a different approach to the coronavirus.

All of our other states and territories would have lockdown much earlier than what has happened in Sydney.

Sydney has been proud of its response. Sydneysiders have been as supportive of the New South Wales government approach.

The reality is the Delta strain is different and we should have gone faster. We need to look at the Melbourne outbreak. What happened in Melbourne is they tried last year to get ahead slowly and were not able to get ahead of it and it resulted in deaths. And an extraordinarily amount of hardship for people.

That must not be allowed to happen in Sydney. From Guardian
