It still doesn't seem real to me
Finally watching Jessica's YT movie on the premiership.

I think that really helped - seeing how far behind we were to suddenly just switching on. I honestly don't remember destroying Port in the middle of the season!

Ol Lightning In A Bottle Brayshaw?

🤮🤮🤮

Hipwood's goal had "that had no right to go through" was another idiotic statement.

Not sure that any media experts picked up Hipwood's Aker celebration at the time. It was mentioned later but that was probably after someone read social media.

Clint Wheeldon on ABC Radio mentioned it as he was calling the next passage of play (Ah Chee's 2nd goal).

TV definitely didn't mention anything live.

Another tidbit that popped back into my mind...

There's often the saying "you need to lose one to win one", talking about Grand Finals. I'd looked up the result of that after we lost and it was BS. If anything, it was the reverse - the winner was often the first time they'd made the GF (unless they're a repeat winner), and the loser was never heard of again (Port, St Kilda, Freo, Adelaide, GWS).

It nagged at me the entire preseason last year and then promptly slipped from my mind once it became apparent that we were pretty solidly fell into the latter category.

The net result - we're only the second team to "lose one to win one" this millennium, other than West Coast twice (winning in 2018 after losing in 2015 - I keep forgetting this one given the three year gap, and 2006/2005).

My 6 year son was diagnosed with cancer in May, and my wife and I spent 1 month in Ronald McDonald house going over to QCH where he was getting treatment. Fair to say it's been a tough year, and we are still going through regular chemo 9 months later. I feel like I'm only now, after watching this video, appreciating the amazing effort from the team and coaches to win this premiership. What a fantastic effort, GO LIONS!! 🦁 🦁 🦁
Hi, I'm Jessica, the person who made the video, and I just wanted to reach out to say thank you for being vulnerable and sharing that with us. I have had hundreds of people reach out to me across various social media platforms but this comment means the most because it means I have achieved what I intended to do...

The intention of this video was to immortalise the feelings and memories of this win. It was also to immortalise the journey that the boys went through - as I have a feeling that most people will forget (or are too busy to know) just how much this team had to overcome to finally get the flag, and how many people wrote them off along the way. It took me literally hundreds of hours to search through the depths of the internet and to edit the video, along with years of following, but I am 24 and have no children so I have the privilege of time to put this together.

I hoped that in making it, it would be something that Lions fans could return to time and time again when we need something to lift our spirits because I know that is what this team has done for so many this year. I'm so glad the boys gave you something to smile about in 2024 and that this video has allowed you to appreciate and re-live the journey again a couple of months later! Sending you all the love in the world and GO LIONS!!

P.S. thank you to everybody for your kind words on this forum and others. I am literally an industrial relations policy officer HAHAHA with amateur experience in editing (this was my first time using adobe premier pro). However, your kind words have encouraged me to consider moving into sports media, social content, film-making, videography, etc. in the future! Thanks again. Can't wait to make another one when we go back-to-back in 2025 ;)

Collingwood lost one in 2018. But I mean how big a gap do you want to have? And does it depend on which players are still there from that previous loss?

Also the Lions of 2001 did lose a Grand Final... That crushing 15 goal loss to Port Adelaide in the 2001 Ansett Cup Grand Final. I was really quite scarred by that at the time. Thankfully the scars healed fully in only 6 months!

Oh, and Geelong lost the Grand Final in 2020.

Hi Jessica, Welcome to BigFooty.

Thank you so, so, so much for the video.

I think I can speak for everyone here…

The Lions Social Media Team need you so, so, so badly. Please apply for the job they have advertised.

Ignore their job requirements on their add, just email them saying you want the job, and include your video.

I second briztoon said - please apply for the Lions media job.

When you send the video you can say that your video shows an indepth knowledge of the club, its recent history, your knowledge of the players and their stories and your passion for the club.

Bigfooty world hire you for the position in a heartbeat.

Dom and Mike- how about throwing the roar deal weight behind Jessica to boost her chances?

I have watched your video many times and everytime it boosts my mood from whatever to happy. It's on my 'play on repeat when I have dementia' list along with the entire finals series. Thank you.

Hi Jessica, I have to echo other responders' comments -- this was a very impressive piece of work. The way you allowed the story to tell itself through audio and video clips, and made sure that audio clips were roughly contemporaneous with the vision, rather than record your own voice over, shows you have an unusual talent and a natural understanding of the grammar of videography and documentary filmmaking. You are way above the standard of most amateur YouTube producers. Thank you so much for sharing your talent with us through this video, and if you have any ambition to make this your full-time role I think you should pursue it.

Thank you briztoon, Gadzorks, MSB Roys and BrainofMorbius!! It means the world. I will try to check big footy more frequently - I actually went through a few of these threads when researching for the video - and maybe even participate :)

I definitely don't fit the role they are currently advertising, am not interested in management and I truly believe that I wouldn't even make it through the AI filtering process currently being used for most job applications.

But I am considering writing to the Lions' content/media department to share this video and to put myself forward for consideration for future media roles and/or experience. However, I would also argue that I believe there to be a gap in current Lions media (youtube) and make a case from there. IDK if anybody else has noticed this gap but I think it would at the very least give them something to consider??

I figure there is nothing to lose by following in Fagan's footsteps and going on a bit of a fishing expedition🦁🦁

All the best in your pursuit. I watched it several times. It certainly provides that emotional nourishment we all need.
Your clip encapsulated our year to perfection. You captured the roller coaster emotional ride in perfect harmony with the vision and reality audio.
Let's hope your next project is capturing a back to back year. :D
