Futurama
220px-Futurama_title_screen.jpg

Futurama is an Emmy Award-winning animated American sitcom created by Matt Groening, who also created The Simpsons, and developed by Groening and David X. Cohen for the Fox network. The series follows the adventures of a former New York City pizza delivery boy, Philip J. Fry, after he is accidentally cryonically frozen at midnight, January 1, 2000, and is revived one thousand years in the future.

In the United States, the series aired from March 28, 1999 to August 10, 2003 on FOX, although its timeslot was regularly interrupted and pre-empted by sports events, and eventually went out of production.

vs

Match 42

Ned and Stacey

200px-Ned_and_Stacey.jpg

Ned and Stacey was a US television sitcom that aired on the FOX network from 1995 to 1997. It starred Thomas Haden Church and Debra Messing. The major thread of the series was that the two were brought together in a marriage of convenience—Ned Dorsey (Church) needed to be married to get a promotion at work, while Stacey Colbert (Messing) desperately needed a place to live and Ned had a very good apartment.

Ned and Stacey often socialized with Stacey's sister, Amanda (Nadia Dajani) and her husband, Eric (Greg Germann). Other recurring characters included Stacey's parents and Ned's boss.

vs

Diff'rent Strokes

Diffrentstrokes.jpg

Diff'rent Strokes was a popular, American sitcom that aired on the NBC television network from November 3, 1978 to May 4, 1985, and on ABC from September 27, 1985 to March 7, 1986, when the series was again canceled.

This sitcom starred Gary Coleman as Arnold Jackson and Todd Bridges as his older brother Willis, two black children from a poor Harlem background whose deceased mother previously worked for a rich white widower Philip Drummond (Conrad Bain), who eventually adopted them. They lived in a penthouse with Drummond's daughter Kimberly (Dana Plato) and their maid — they went through three maids during the show's run: Edna Garrett (played by Charlotte Rae), Adelaide Brubaker (played by Nedra Volz), and Pearl Gallagher (played by Mary Jo Catlett) on Park Avenue in New York City. As Arnold, Coleman popularized the catch phrase "Wha'choo talkin' 'bout, Willis?" which was popular in the late 1970s and early 1980s and is still mentioned in pop culture references today.

Match 43

On The Buses

280px-Onthebuses.jpg

On The Buses was a British situation comedy created by Ronald Wolfe and Ronald Chesney. The pair had already had successes with The Rag Trade and Meet the Wife for the BBC. The BBC rejected this offering and so the pair turned to ITV station London Weekend Television. The show was accepted and although the critics disliked it, the show was a huge hit with the viewers.

Stan Butler (Reg Varney) works as a bus driver for the Luxton & District Traction Company. He lives at home with his bingo-loving, widowed and overbearing mother (Cicely Courtneidge, later Doris Hare), his frumpy sister Olive (Anna Karen) and his lazy brother-in-law Arthur (Michael Robbins). The bane of Stan's life is Inspector Cyril "Blakey" Blake (Stephen Lewis) who is often checking up on him and his conductor Jack Harper (Bob Grant), and threatening them with the sack for lateness and untidiness. Not coincidentally, Blakey sports a toothbrush moustache and general appearance very much in the image of Adolf Hitler. His catchphrase is "I 'ate you Butler!". In later years Arthur and then Stan left the series, Olive worked for the bus company and Blakey moved in to board at Mum's house.

Seventy-four half-hour episodes were made.

vs

George and Mildred

Like many sitcoms of the day, George and Mildred was also turned into a film.

Match 44 - 3 way

Bless This House

200px-Bless-This-House.jpg

Bless This House was a popular British sitcom that ran on ITV from 1971 to 1976. It starred Sid James and Diana Coupland.

Bless This House centred around life in Birch Avenue, Putney, where travelling stationery salesman Sid Abbott [1] and his wife Jean live with their teenage children, Mike, who is fresh from art college and more preoccupied with protests than finding a job, and Sally, a trendy schoolgirl. The children were 19 and 16 years old at the start of the series. Each week, the old-fashioned parents battled to comprehend the permissive ways of the new generation and consistently amused viewers by being bemusedly out of touch. Their neighbours and best friends were Trevor and his wife Betty.

vs

Love Thy Neighbour

Love_thy_neighbour.jpg

Love Thy Neighbour was a British sitcom which ran from 13 April 1972 to 22 January 1976, made by Thames Television for ITV. It starred Jack Smethurst, Rudolph Walker, Nina Baden-Semper and Kate Williams. There was also a movie spin-off and a brief sequel set in Australia.

The series (and movie) was created and largely written by Vince Powell and Harry Driver, and was based on a suburban white working class couple who unwittingly found themselves living next door to a black couple, and the white couple's attempts to come to terms with this.

vs

Gidget

200px-Gidgettvguide.jpg

Gidget was a 1965 U.S. television sitcom starring Sally Field in the lead role of Francine Lawrence, a teenage character adapted for film and television from a novel by Frederick Kohner. Gidget is the nickname her surfing friends give her. The sitcom series was written as a sequel to the three Gidget films.

It ran for only one season, but continues to have a cult following.

Match 45

Will & Grace
250px-Will_%26_Grace_title_card.jpg

Will & Grace is a popular Emmy Award winning and Golden Globe nominated American television sitcom that was originally broadcast from 1998 to 2006. The show focused on Will Truman, a gay lawyer, and his best friend Grace Adler, a straight Jewish woman who runs her own interior design firm, as well as Karen Walker, a very rich socialite, and Jack McFarland, a struggling gay actor. The show takes place in New York City.

The show debuted on the NBC network on September 21, 1998 and steadily gained in popularity, culminating when it moved to Thursday night as part of NBC's Must See TV line-up. When the show lost Friends as its lead-in at the end of the 2003-04 season, however, it began shedding viewers and slipped out of the Top 20.

The eighth season premiere was broadcast live on September 29, 2005, as was another episode in early 2006. The hour-long final episode aired May 18, 2006, preceded by a one-hour retrospective. The final broadcast drew in an estimated 18.1 million viewers.

It debuted on August 23, 1998 and its final episode aired May 18, 2006. That '70s Show proved to be a launching pad for the film careers of its young stars, unknowns at the time they were hired.
