I am currently trying to put together a short summary of the greatest players each club has had: somewhere between 3 and 5 per club. While it's going along alright, I'm sure there are some I've missed. So I was wondering... who are the greatest players your club has seen?

Oh, and I'm sure there's been a thread on this topic before, but I can't for the life of me find one.

I'm sorry you ignorant worm, I didn't see a lot of Fitzroy games growing up supporting Brisbane. Was I expected to complete a degree on Fitzroy's tradition and history after the merger?

Maybe a Fitzroy supporter would be better qualified to post. You don't see me doing a list of the great Norwood Reserves team from the 1920's.

Fitzroy have had some great champions over the years. A couple are Kevin Murray and Bernie Quinlan. By the way it wouldnt take long to learn a brief history of the club you merged with.

I know a bit of Fitzroy's history by doing some reading etc, but I thought it might be best for someone who has actually followed them to do up a list.

I don't know why my lists made you assume that "Brisbane don't give a stuff about Fitzroy's history". Perhaps you would like to give me a quick run-down on how many games Murray and Quinlan played for the Brisbane Lions before i alter my list.

Admittedly I don't know alot about footballers from other era's given my age and with that being said, not a whole lot about the Bulldogs either but how high do you rate Gary Dempsey? I'm not entirely sure but he won a coupld B&F's and a Brownlow yeah?

Gary Ablett
Polly Farmer
Mick Turner
Reg Hickey
Ian Nakervis

I'm not old enough to know, but i think this might be pretty close.

Collingwood

Nathan Buckley- The clubs greatest player. Voss, Hird and McLeod have all said that Buckley is the best footballer they have ever played against. That is good enough for me.

Bob Rose- John Coleman, ******** Reynolds, Alf Brown (Famed Football Writer) and Lou Richards all said that Rose was the greatest player to ever play the game. Tough, hard and skilled.

Albert Collier- Jack Dyer quoted that Albert Collier was a God and he hated Collingwood. He won a Brownlow as a kid and was a 6 times Premiership player. Dyer said that Collier was the toughest and most ruthless man to ever play the game ahead of Carltons Bob Chitty. Dyer also said that Collier was clearly the most skilled player of his time. He was part of the greatest team ever assembled. His teammates rated him above Syd Coventry, Gordon Coventry, Harry Collier and Jack Regan who are immortals of the game.

Jack Regan- Bob Pratt, Soapy Vallence, Gordon Coventry and Reg Hickey- 3 of the greatest full forwards ever and a great key position player in Hickey, all said that Regan was simply the greatest full back to have ever played the game. His nickname amongst his peers and opposition was the Prince of Full Backs.

Syd Coventry- People talk about the Leadership of Voss but this bloke Captained 4 Premierships in a row. Rutless leader who also won a Brownlow Medal.

Apologies to Harry Collier, Des Fothergill, Peter Daicos, Len Thompson and Gordon Coventry.

By the way, I am a Collingwood supporter- Bulldog was in there when I joined and I didnt notice. I am not sure how to change it.

Reynolds
Hird
Coleman
Madden
Hutchison
Not knocking this list at all, but how far back to you want to go? Essendon had a guy named Albert Thurgood who by all reports was one of the best to ever play.

He won the "Champion of the Colony" medal in 1893, 1894 and 1901 - amazing considering he played in Perth from 1895 to 1899 returning to the Vic league in 1900, and retired at the end of 1902 (in some controversy).

Thurgood is widely regarded as the first true superstar of Australians Rules Football.
