I thought the AFL said they would not give a qualifying loser a 6 day break? Cats hawks cannot be Sunday. However it's not like the AFL is ever consistent with what they say.

If cats finish 2nd
Fri QF2 (n) Cats v Hawks MCG
Sat QF1 Pies v Eagles MCG
Sat EF2 (n) Swans v Saints ANZ
Sun EF1 Blues v Bombers MCG

Switch Qualifying finals if Hawks finish 2nd. If hawks finish 2nd then things will get complicated with semi and prelim schedule. Loser of Q2 will play E2 winner on a friday and the other game on Saturday.

Then assuming Pies win in week 1 they will play PF on a Friday meaning their opponent will get a 6 day break compared to the other semi winner getting 8. Not ideal for AFL headquarters.

Friday night - Geelong vs Hawthorn (MCG)
Saturday afternoon - Collingwood vs West Coast (MCG)
Saturday night - St Kilda vs Sydney (Etihad Stadium)
Sunday - Carlton vs Essendon (MCG)

This seems like the most reasonable one, or move Carlton vs Essendon to the friday night you never know.

No chance that the Cats/Hawks game would be at Docklands, the corresponding fixtures earlier this season drew 78000 and 62000

Also its very doubtful that the 2 Elimination Finals would be proceed the Qualifying Finals, not only do the Qualifying Finals always rate better on TV but it would be to the considerable disadvantage of the losing Qualifying Final teams who have to host the winner of the Elimination Finals with less rest

The Finals scheduling is almost a lock;

Friday
Geelong V Hawthorn MCG

Saturday
Collingwood V West Coast MCG (Series Ticket Match)
Sydney V St Kilda (ANZ/Ethiad Stadium)

Sunday
Carlton V Essendon MCG

If any game is to be at Etihad it would have to be the Carlton vs Essendon game, unless Geelong asks otherwise if they're 2nd. Even then, it won't happen and there will be three games at MCG.

Surely Carlton v Essendon will be on Sat night to maximise the t.v audience.

The AFL has said that they intend to give the losers of the 1vs4 2vs3 games a week off and thus this means playing on Friday and Saturday.

What does this mean, "series ticket match"??

Hamish Mchlachlon (brother of Gillan..sp?, who has a big say in the schedule) hinted yesterday on radio that he does not believe Geelong hawthorn will be on Friday..

I think It will be this

Friday night
Carlton V Essendon

Sat Arvo
Collingwood V West Coast

Sat night
Sydney V Saints

Sunday arvo

Hawthorn V Geelong

If the Hawks leap the cats this week and finish second, which could happen, then i think the AFL needs to look after them more. I doubt they give the team who finishes 2nd a 6 day break returning from an intersate match potentially on a hot day at GC...

Finals venue/s.

If the ladder positions stay as they currently are, which is very possible. With home finals for Pies, Cats, Blues & Saints in week 1, is the MCG capable of hosting 4 finals in one week end??

Having only been to the MCG once I'm not sure of the logistic capabilities of the place.

Personally I couldn't see the $$$ hungry powers that be hosting a final at Etihad for the fear of it being a sellout crowd, meaning they lose the gate receipts had the game been held at the MCG.

And on top of everything else what will it do to the playing surface??

I don't see why the AFL cant come out and annouce it now?

Its basically set in concrete that
Collingwood v West Coast - MCG
Geelong v Hawthorn - MCG (home team still TBA)
Sydney v St Kilda - ES or ANZ (home team stil TBA)
Carlon v Essendon - MCG

The only way that changes is if Sydney loses to Brisbane by about 100 points.

Does the availabilty of ANZ stadium have much of an impact? I beleive NRL finals start that weekend too.

If there's a clash with NRL in Sydney any final will be played at the SCG. Happened in 2005 when Sydney v Geelong in the semis clashed with an NRL final at ANZ.

Would they just play at the SCG or would they change the day of that final? I guess it has to be Saturday though doesn't it.

I just wish it would be announced already so I can book my flights over.

Fri: Collingwood V WCE (MCG)
Sat: Carlton V Ess (MCG)
Sat Night: Geelong V Hawks (Etihad)
Sun: Swans V St Kilda (ANZ)

Pretty clearcut I would have thought.

Week 2:
Fri: WCE V Carlton (PS)
Sat: Hawks V Swans (MCG)

Week 3:
Fri: Coll V Hawks (MCG)
Sat: Cats V WCE (MCG)

Week 4:
Sat: Coll V Cats (MCG)

How come; if everything goes to plan the top team has to play team number 3 to make the final while the team that finished 2nd gets an easier game to make it into the grandy playing team number 4?
