In round 3 we defended home turf against those gambling bears and the traitor Party Gull in a thrilling contest that would decide which team will go 3-0 to start the season. Early season form for both teams was good as this game was set to be a blockbuster and it certainly was.

To say we were shocking in the first quarter would be an understatement. Bears rushed out of the blocks and kicked 3 goals before we could even scratch our nuts. eDPS and Dory_77 helped to try and claw our way back, but Las Vegas put on 4 goals in a row to end the first quarter 33 points up.

3 quick goals from GWS Goose , Ned_Flanders and eDPS at the beginning of the second quarter gave us hope as we tried to gain some momentum. But the Bears just kept managing to kick goals at the other end and the game was starting to slip away. Then 2 late goals to Dayts and WaLkEr_ThE_StAr tightened the margin to 15 points as we entered the main break.

The third quarter was where we started seeing Las Vegas slow down as we began to beat them around the ground. Goals to eDPS and beez early in the 3rd got us to within 3 points. Then it was a game of tug-o-war the rest of the quarter with Bears trying to kick away but we manage to hold steady and went into the final break with a 10 point deficit.

The first 10 minutes of the final quarter was frustrating as a Gumbies supporter with ossie_21 , WaLkEr_ThE_StAr and eDPS all missing goals that they would've scored 9 times out of 10. It seemed nerves were getting the better of us. Bears got a goal at the 11 minute mark to go up by 13 points and hope was starting to fade.

Then eDPS pops up as the replacement FF on the day and does his best impression of God coming down from the heavens and smiting the evil known as the Las Vegas gambling den.

GWS Goose once again had 10 tackles and 100+ DT. Is this finally the season Goose makes All-SFA? Let's hope so.
eDPS had an incredible performance as the replacement full forward kicking 6 goals and winning the game off his own boot.
Rodney Dangerfield was once again a hitout expert with 15 hitouts beating the Bears 10 hitouts all by himself.
Riviat finally had a game with 100% time on-ground and it showed with 20+ disposals and 7 marks.
Barrybran was once again screwed by the coach with only 62% play time. Dory_77 (46% gametime) and CatToTheFuture (66% gametime) were also affected by the coach being coach.
Bulldogs85 continued his great marking form with 6 marks once again. Currently 11th in the league for marks.

POSTING STATS

Very similar output to last weeks posting (this is a good thing). Consistency is key in a long season of qooty so I am happy to see everyone turning up each round. A big positive was BlueE dropping in on game day to post about how good eDPS has been for us in front of goals so far this season. That makes 19 posters a season high for us posting in a match thread last week.

Looking forward to seeing you all in the round 4 match thread against Mount Buller Demons.

Masterful coaching move to drag me after 90 seconds and put me back on up at half forward to get some of the qooty. Got about 3x my combined possession tally from the first 2 games in 1 and one of the best marks you’ll ever see to get us on the board with a 7pt play (point assist & then eDPS got us going)

In Round 4 we travelled to Mount Buller in an attempt to do what no Gumbies side has ever done before (or at least no one can remember when it last happened), win the first four games of a home and away season. Headless was up and about early as the Demons showed why they were a formidable posting team, but on the qooty field we had them beat.

The first quarter was where we put our foots down and really tried to gain advantage on the scoreboard quickly. Barrybran put on a full forward masterclass performance and kicked 3 of our 5 goals that quarter to put pressure on Mount Buller from the start. Dory_77 and GWS Goose also kicked one each as we went 5.0 (30) into quarter time as accurate as they come. Demons couldn't get through Ned_Flanders at the other end and were goalless in the first quarter.

The second quarter was very much the same with goals to NSWCROW and Dory_77 early on as Mount Buller was staring at the abyss. Barrybran kicked his 4th goal, then the 400 gamer WaLkEr_ThE_StAr steps up and kicks a ripper.

Mount Buller finally found a way through Flanders super defending, but could only get the solitary goal by half-time. We were up by 8 goals but we weren't done yet.

We took our foot off the gas a little bit in the 3rd quarter as both teams kicked 2 goals each and an insane number of behinds. Barrybran kicked his 5th and 6th goals as he willed himself back into FRED medal contention.

The final quarter we could've easily parked the bus and walked away as worthy winners, but we wanted that percentage boost. So we pushed even harder and punished Mount Buller for underestimating us, kicking 7 more goals to put the game beyond any doubt. We ended up winning by 85 points and gifting the Demons their 3rd worst score ever recorded in SFA history.

Yours truly got 9 frees for from the umpires. My Joel Selwood ducking game is coming along very well.
Bulldogs85 got another 7 marks bringing his total to 26 marks this season (4th best in the league)
Brick Loosener got another 10+ handballs and now has 49 handballs for the season (equal 1st in the league)
NSWCROW got moved into the ruck early on and got hitouts for the first time in his career. Also was arguably his best career game with 98 DT, 28 disposals and 2 goals.
GWS Goose and Riviat were ball magnets acquiring 30+ disposals each

POSTING STATS

A down week in terms of posting with Riviat being there only in spirit, but happy to see we got 20 posters in the match thread which is the highest number of posters in a match thread from Gumbies for a really long time. Supercheapgiants finally popped his head up which is great to see another new poster getting involved this season. Spuddd posted about being delisted (I'll get onto that very soon alright). Overall we still have a healthy spread of contributors.

In Round 4 we travelled to Mount Buller in an attempt to do what no Gumbies side has ever done before (or at least no one can remember when it last happened), win the first four games of a home and away season. Headless was up and about early as the Demons showed why they were a formidable posting team, but on the qooty field we had them beat.

The first quarter was where we put our foots down and really tried to gain advantage on the scoreboard quickly. Barrybran put on a full forward masterclass performance and kicked 3 of our 5 goals that quarter to put pressure on Mount Buller from the start. Dory_77 and GWS Goose also kicked one each as we went 5.0 (30) into quarter time as accurate as they come. Demons couldn't get through Ned_Flanders at the other end and were goalless in the first quarter.

The second quarter was very much the same with goals to NSWCROW and Dory_77 early on as Mount Buller was staring at the abyss. Barrybran kicked his 4th goal, then the 400 gamer WaLkEr_ThE_StAr steps up and kicks a ripper.

Mount Buller finally found a way through Flanders super defending, but could only get the solitary goal by half-time. We were up by 8 goals but we weren't done yet.

We took our foot off the gas a little bit in the 3rd quarter as both teams kicked 2 goals each and an insane number of behinds. Barrybran kicked his 5th and 6th goals as he willed himself back into FRED medal contention.

The final quarter we could've easily parked the bus and walked away as worthy winners, but we wanted that percentage boost. So we pushed even harder and punished Mount Buller for underestimating us, kicking 7 more goals to put the game beyond any doubt. We ended up winning by 85 points and gifting the Demons their 3rd worst score ever recorded in SFA history.

Barrybran will reach triple figure games in Gumbies colours this weekend against the Furies. He has been an excellent leader of this club for many seasons now since moving from the Bears in season 27. In just over 5 seasons Barry has managed to achieve a beez trophy (S31), mobbs medal (S29) and feature in numerous All-SFA sides (as well as captain the side). The amount of effort that Baz has put into this club cannot be overstated and we all have great respect for just how much he has helped improve this team.
