ROUND 1 V CONEY ISLAND WARRIORS at THE HOUSE OF GUMBY

After welcoming 9 new recruits to the club we prepared to defend our home ground against the Coney Island Warriors. I was revved up to beat my old team in what was surely to be a hotly contested match.

First Quarter
eDPS got us going out of the gate with an impressive goal from the wing in their first game in a Gumbies guernsey.

Warriors got out to a 16 point lead midway through and the game was starting to slip away from us. Then the first gamer ossie_21 popped up and kicked a goal that opened the floodgates for us.

Third Quarter
Warriors got the first two goals of the quarter in 2 minutes and the tide was once again starting to turn against us...

Then we saw one minute of brilliance by our rookies that changed the game. First was ossie_21 being brave enough to bounce in the forward pocket and hand it to Dory_77 who kicked a stellar banana kick across his body, and next was CatToTheFuture who turned on the afterburners and pumped it from 50m to put us back in front. A first goal to remember forever.

Aristotle Pickett kicked 3 goals in a BOG performance. Rodney Dangerfield had 15 hitouts to help our midfielders get first use of the ball. Our rookies ossie_21 (2 goals), CatToTheFuture (1 goal), Bulldogs85 (6 marks), Supercheapgiants (17 disposals), and Dayts (4 marks) all contributed well in a new look Gumbies outfit.

Next week we travel to play Dragons FFC who will be looking to rebound after their loss against Roys.

Aristotle Pickett kicked 3 goals in a BOG performance. Rodney Dangerfield had 15 hitouts to help our midfielders get first use of the ball. Our rookies ossie_21 (2 goals), CatToTheFuture (1 goal), Bulldogs85 (6 marks), Supercheapgiants (17 disposals), and Dayts (4 marks) all contributed well in a new look Gumbies outfit.

Next week we travel to play Dragons FFC who will be looking to rebound after their loss against Roys.

18 Gumbies made themselves known in the match thread last week which is the most posters Gumbies have had in a match thread since round 10 season 30 (well over a year ago). The entire Gumbies posts combined in the match thread was also over 100+ posts more than our biggest match thread last season (644 team posts in round 2 season 32).

We had 6 Gumbies post over 50 times in the match thread with me, Riviat, Ned_Flanders, Barrybran, CatToTheFuture and GWS Goose all contributing strongly. Bulldogs85, beez, StFly, Brick Loosener, Aristotle Pickett, Rodney Dangerfield and Dory_77 all posted over 10 times to offer great support and help keep the thread ticking over. bone2468, eDPS, ossie_21, WaLkEr_ThE_StAr and NSWCROW also popped their heads in from time to time.

A huge turnaround in posting for us and I have to say I am very proud of you all. It brings a tear to my eye.

Hope to see you all this week in the Round 2 match thread against Dragons FFC.

It was a terrible rainy game on Sunday, but we won so I'm not complaining.

The coach was smoking some crazy shit during the game, as he decided to move Barrybran to the bench after just 47 minutes on-field and didn't return. Other players affected by our coaches wacky brain included Riviat (only 68% gametime), NSWCROW (73% gametime) and Bulldogs85 (77% gametime).
Rodney Dangerfield is equal 3rd in the league on hitouts after round 1.
Aristotle Pickett is equal 8th in the league on goals scored after kicking 3 and producing a best on ground performance from centre half forward.
Brick Loosener is equal 11th in the league on handballs made, after acquiring 14 on the wing in round 1.
GWS Goose is equal 1st in the league in frees for with 7. The umpires do love themselves some goose.
Bulldogs85 and Aristotle Pickett are tied for most marks (6) in the team.
No one reached 100 DT in round 1 (because of the stupid rain). Let's pray it doesn't rain this sunday.

We are on a hot streak early this season

For round 2 we travelled to Dragon Island to face off against the reigning premiers on their home turf. One of the more difficult road games you can have in a season, but we were up to the task. With hopes high after our round 1 victory we went in as underdogs but they were foolish to underestimate us.

The first quarter was even as could be with Dragons full forward Bonz getting off to a hot start, while myself, CatToTheFuture and eDPS managed to kick a goal each to bring us back level with Dragons at quarter time.

The second quarter was very similar to the first, but Dragons were slowly trying to break free and get ahead. Barrybran finally managed to kick a goal from the full forward position.

The beginning of the third quarter was where Dragons made their move and got out to an 11 point lead at the 9 minute mark. But then our forward line lit up with CatToTheFuture and Barrybran kicking 2 goals each in 10 minutes of play to put us up by 9 points at 3 quarter time.

Dragons scored straight away in the first minute of the 4th quarter and we were on the back foot early, but GWS Goose managed to keep his cool and slotted a great goal.

Goose was a tackling machine in the midfield wrapping up the opposition 10 times and becoming the first Gumbies player this season to achieve 100 DT in a game.
We had a brilliant spread of goal kickers with 10 players kicking a goal this game. CatToTheFuture (4 goals), Barrybran (3 goals), Dory_77 (3 goals), ossie_21 (1 goal), GWS Goose (1 goal), DenieD (1 goal), Riviat (1 goal), WaLkEr_ThE_StAr (1 goal), eDPS (1 goal), and NSWCROW (1 goal) all contributing.
