We lost the game, but still made top 4

In the final round of the season we travelled to face off against the Fighting Furies in what some would say was a dead wood game. We couldn't drop out of the top 4 and Furies would've needed a miracle to make finals, so the result of the game was not a huge talking point. The main problems with the game (and our coach) were that Barrybran and the teams captain (myself) got moved into the backline and the bench respectively, which pretty much destroyed any watchability for the game.

We all had to tune in to the Old Boys and Dragons game to watch Bonz and Hatchy1992 and hope to hell they didn't kick more than a few goals each. Luckily Barrybran held onto the FRED medal and we can all celebrate this award as a team because we all kicked to him.

• Our midfield line of Brick Loosener beez and Sky were clear stand-outs on the day, combining for 78 disposals and a goal apiece
• StFly forced Barrybran to play in the backline and managed to get 3 goals that were rightfully his. But it's alright, because your 300th game is coming up soon, so I'll just put that down to you getting too goal-sick at the other end for so long.
• GWS Goose was the best tackler on the day with 5 to his name
• I had the smallest time-on-ground with just 34% (pretty sure that is the worst ToG of my career) to go along with my worst game of the season and dashing any hope of making All-SFA. I think I'm gonna have to start bunking with Goose during All-SFA talks.

Fun Fact: If we win all our games from here, StFly will play their 300th game in the Grand Final of season 34​

We finish 3rd in another good home and away season under myself (finished top 4 in all seasons I've captained so far). Bombers this week will be tough, but we beat them just a few weeks ago so I'm confident we can do it again.​

I was FF in our only flag season, so it just goes to show when we needed someone to provide impetus, I am that bug that can claw to hope and dream fulfilment.

Yeah we seem to be quite good at getting to second base but struggle to convert that into runs scored

All we need to do is play the hawks/phoenix/avians as they seem to shit the bed worse than us in the finals, we'll then walk it in.

Bombers, Swampies get kissed on the proverbial, it's why we stagnate a metric shit tonne as can't rely on any of them, look at AB's reign for proof.

I had that issue in my late teens, but managed to rectify in my 20's by being more upfront, i think that might be the key to success.

For the second season in a row we have fallen to the Baghdad Bombers in a qualifying final. This time however felt much worse, because it was a much closer affair and we were ahead by a fair margin towards the end of the game.

When Dory_77 kicked the goal at the 11th minute mark of the 4th quarter to put us up by 29 points, we seriously thought our straight sets days were over. GWS Goose even made a post about the Bombers woeful kicking skills and we were so close to celebrating a glorious victory. But then our jelly legs started falling over each other. The good stuff was no longer in our system. We suddenly forgot how to play.

Bombers kicked one, two, three in a row to give us a massive shock. NSWCROW steadied for us, but we couldn't keep up. Bombers then kicked 4 more goals in a row and we found ourselves behind by 7 points with less than a minute to go. Our captain (yours truly) managed a remarkable goal from the centre bounce in the final minute, but it wasn't enough. We lost by 1 point. Can you believe that? 1 freaking point. I'd rather lose by the 76 points we lost by last finals series to these guys.

• Rodney Dangerfield had another great finals game in the ruck with 14 hitouts, 25 disposals and 4 tackles
• I did my best to carry the team to victory with a team-high 26 disposals, 7 tackles and 4 goals, but it wasn't enough...
• I was so caught up in post-season nomination stuff, that I forgot to check for any milestones. Congrats on 50 games Dory_77

As I have previously stated, the team sheet this week will be very different to any line-up we have had this season. It will be chaos and it will be carnage. Stay tuned for the announcements...

WE FREAKIN DID IT!!!

#StraightSetsSpecialists is no more

The majority of this week was doom and gloom after falling by merely 1 point in the Qualifying Final, we thought straight sets was once again going to define our season. BUT IT WAS NOT TO BE! We changed the team sheet (a lot) and moved everyone into positions that would benefit the team overall. It seemed to work, so now the question is whether we change it up again or try to keep our current structure for this weeks game against the Roys? Either way, we'll give the Prelim a red hot crack and try to out-muscle those overconfident reigning premiers.

We jumped out of the gates early with the first 4 goals of the game in the opening 10 minutes. It looked like the changes to the team sheet worked really well as everyone seemed switched on. Old Boys kicked a couple back, but we went into quarter time up by 12 points with a heap of confidence. It was a difficult second quarter as we let the Old Boys back into the game by kicking so many bloody behinds. We really need to work on our goal-kicking this week at training. However we were still up by 7 points at half-time.

Old Boys played the premiership quarter to perfection. They kicked 5 goals to our 2 and had a stranglehold on the game. The fourth quarter was where we pulled our fingers out and really shined. First, CatToTheFuture kicked a goal in the opening minute to give us confidence, then Sky kicked one to give us belief. Next, Supercheapgiants kicked a goal to put us up by 7 and we felt we were going to win. But we knew what happened last week after being in-front early in the 4th, so we didn't slow down. Dory_77 kicked 2, then beez came off the bench and kicked one, and finally BlueE kicked our last goal of the game to put us up by 21 points with little time left on the clock.

Old Boys still kicked a couple of late goals, but we had done enough and managed to win by 9 points. Our first finals win since last year, and also my first ever finals win as captain. It was a great experience and I hope we can repeat it this week. TWO MORE WINS!!

• Dory_77 played great at their first game in full forward with 4 goals
• The Foolback has become a rather handy forward during these finals with another 2 goal game
• Falconista tried his hand in the ruck for the first time. The rain made it especially difficult for him, but he still managed 8 hitouts and 15 disposals.
• You can take the goose out of the midfield, but you can't take the midfield out of the goose. GWS Goose got the equal most tackles for a non-midfielder in this game.
• I had the most tackles for the game with 7, and I also continue my stellar accuracy in-front of goals in finals (9 goals 0 behinds in the past 2 seasons)
• StFly moved to full back and kept the big kitty to a big fat zero in goals. I think we just found our full back replacement.

We play Roys FFC in a Preliminary Final this week. Should be a lot of fun. Prelims don't happen very often, so get in the match thread and enjoy it.​
