Hall v Gibson

well, back on topic a bit, if anything, Gibson being used as the full back may end up being a bit (dare I say it at 189cm) small. Barry had his measure in all areas, and that's not to take too much away from Gibson as Barry is still a very good player.

Shoenmakers actually looks the better of the two as FB....

question tho: what other key backs have the hawks got in reserve? maybe Hodge needs to fall back in his '08 role, or even a Campbell Brown (?)

just 2c

I thought Sheonmakers looked better too. Gilham didn't play tonight.

Everything Hall touched last night turned to gold.

Previous yrs he would do everything right, and end up kicking the ball on the full, last night he would turn his opponent inside out and it would sail through (including the opening goal of the game).

Was hardly on gibson, so i will refrain from judging both until i have seen them play a few more times

Gibson looked pretty out of his depth as did most of the hawks tonight.

Shoenmakers had patches but he's terrible below his feet and he's anything but clean with ball in hand or by foot.

I thought there were some pretty bad signs for Hawthorn tonight, Buddy doesnt look like he's enjoying his footy and the ball movement is too slow, how is he meant to beat two or three blokes at a time?

Couple of their younger blokes stood out for me, Peterson up until he pulled his hammy, Kayler Thompson, even though he is 24 was best for the Hawks, clearly.

The worry I see is a lack of runners, perhaps when Burgoyne is injected is may pick up but I think a few sides will run the hawks off their feet this year.

Oh, Gibson = the new Murphy

Ladson is the worst 100 game player in league history. :thumbsu:

Nah, I think there would have been quite a few more at the dockers.

Hall looked good tonight as did the rest of the doggies
Gibbo did okay
Shoey and Stratton were good
and all will be bolsted with the return of Gilham and Guerra.

No, he's pretty bad.

Gibbo did okay

Lol. Really?

Shoey and Stratton were good

Stratton looked completely out of his depth, highlighted by turning an incident where he turned his back on the play and Murphy marked the ball 40 out.

He was beaten badly by Murphy.

As I said before Shoenmakers looks ok in patches, but I doubt he has the agility to play down back and is very, very poor below his knees.

.

Everyone is entitled to an opinion - even if it is wrong

Lol. Really?

Yer I thought he did. He was never picked up with the view to playing on the big bodies like Hall, Kosi, Brown etc. and while Hall kicked some goals on him I thought for the most part he went okay.

167 games v 0 games - you would expect Murphy to be the better player but with more game time I think Stratton will go okay. I realise it's a big step from WAFL to AFL but he played on some pretty good full forwards in the WAFL and more than held his own. To date has played 2 NAB cup games and in both games hawk supporters have been pretty happy with the return. He again tonight showed he has potential.

From the 13 games he played last season to now it is apparent to those who follow the hawks that he has improved again and hopefully will continue to do so. When playing on Hall I thought he went okay and more than held his own and tbh probably handled him better than the more experienced Gibbo and hopefully that is what will occur long term.

Both he and Stratton had more than a 80% efficiency rate so they couldn't have been performing that badly.

I don't think I've seen Shoenmakers turn it over by foot ever? Obviously he has but I wouldn't say he has poor footskills at all.

Burgoyne, Bateman, Rioli and Young should inject some running into the side.

Shaun McManus played over 200 games. GTFO>

Why cant you quote?

What was Gibson plucked for if not to bolster the KP's down back?

I thought he was pretty poor on Gia which is a bigger worry than being man handled by Barry.

Hawthorn supporters are always going to look glowingly on their own, I've followed Ben's career at East Perth and was surprised when he was picked up on a main list, it's almost like a desperation move.

They've tried to bolster their Key backs, without actually picking up any key backs?

Stratton is a third tall, Kayler Thompson is also a third tall running defender.

Gibson is a third tall, not sure Shoenmakers has the agility to hold down a KP defensively.

Of all your tall's Lisle looks the most capable of moving backward.

Shaun Macmanus is a representation of everything that was wrong with Fremantle, rewarding medocrity, putting it on a pedestal and I am glad he is gone.

He is no favourite son of mine, however we all know Anthony Rocca is the worst 200 gamer ever.

Young will provide run as will Bateman. I knew I was missing a few, hopefully they all find thier way back into the side otherwise Hawthorn look too one paced.

Rioli isnt a mid.

Hawthorn were a year too late, we already took the quality tall timber from the Roos.

Leigh Brown >>>>> Spudson

Tall timber? Scott Pendlebury is taller than Gibson

lol. He had 7-8 goals kicked on him and should have been another one or two.

Have spent the last months listening to North supporters telling Hawks fans that Gibson is not a KPD and Hawks fans telling North they are just bitter.

Now I know who to believe :thumbsu:

It took until now?

No offence but its always been very clear Gibson isnt a Key position anything, at a stretch he can pinch hit but if you are banking on him for a season good ****en luck

Yeah I bet he wishes he went to the Dogs sooner so he didn't have to win that pesky flag with Sydney.

Chances are he would have more than one if he had:D

You have to admitt that playing FF for the Doggies would be a tad more enjoyable than flooding back and forward to the HB line and watching a mass of 20 players follow the ball up and down the boundry line?

No wonder he was a angry, frustrated player!

Or are you one of those Sydney rugby converts who isn't smart enough to understand or enjoy a traditional open running style of AFL football?;)

Spot on. :thumbsu:
The guy has ability and is a brute. He will have a field day if last night's form is anything to go by. He looked good and powerful. I would not like to be a defender playing on him.
He was frustrated in Sydney for sure.
He did not get the ball delivered fast to him with that scrappy crap Sydney play and he was being held all the time and not being looked after by the umpires. That's why he lost the plot.

Was completely outpointed by Hall last night. Looked like a man playing on a boy at stages in that game. I really hope the Hawks weren't pinning their hopes on him to hold down FB this season.

Gibbo is no full back but he was crucified last night, no midfield pressure and his fellow defenders were pretty much cones not helping him out, it is not like the Doggies went for anyone else in the forward 50 in the first half. Last year Gibbo was used to having Thompson, Grima and McMahon help him out and put some pressure when his man was the go to player.

Thought I'd have a quick look, expecting to see sledging from Roos supporters. Happy to see some 'neutral' supporters doing our work! :thumbsu:

Gibson - not a Key Position Defender!
