Firstly, the "No Kane Cornes" Rule is back

Option 1
Wardlaw/Tsatas/Sheezel/Cadman + Hollands/Hewitt/Phillipou (may slide)

Option 2
2 of Clark/Humphrey/Jefferson

And you'd select Option 2?

exactly, theres a difference when prospects play in their draft year, the extra pressure to perform, i remember Daicos had a few calling him over rated last year which was odd at the time.
Davo, would you rather have a draft hand of 6 + 7 this year or 2 + 13?
Just a follow on from a discussion in hypothetical thread

2 and 13, with 2 you get a look at an elite talent in Wardlaw or Sheezel and with 13 you still get a good player with plenty of options to choose from.

Oh interesting. I would have said/guessed 6 + 7, but you're lightyears ahead of me in knowing about these players. Thanks mate.

Good thinking, love his opinion.
Personally I would like two quality Mids. 6&7 for me. Let’s make it happen if we can.
I would have said that as well but Davo said otherwise. Picking from that elite group is very appealing. Just didnt know if the slide from 7-13 would make a significant difference or not.

im not sure it particularly matters

either way you have an awesome draft hand and a pretty good shot at getting 2x 200 gamers onto your list

if this hypothetical happens its possible come a decade from now the difference between the two options may be stark. But without hindsight, either one is pretty fantastic for a club in our position

To distill my previous post...

1. Suns give us Bowes and 7. We give them our future 2nd (we won't use it anyway, will be eaten by a McCabe pick).

2. Trade Titch for a 2nd round pick or later picks for more points.

3. Trade our 3rd and 4th picks plus the picks from Titch to Lions for pick 15. Keep something to get Meek.

End up with:
6, 7, 15, 24. Plus Amon, Bowes and Meek.

Not sure how much better you want it tbh. Three 1sts, a high 2nd, and three good players. Easy trades to do, high probability of success.

Possibility of another pick for Gunston too that can add value to the Lions trade or the Meek trade if needed.

If the above happens, we will fast forward our rebuild and look at playing finals in a couple of years. Personally I would take Mckenzie at 6 if available and Jefferson with pick 7, remaining two picks, another mid and small forward

2 + 13 would be something like Wardlaw + George OR Sheezel + Ginbey (maybe Hotton, Jefferson or Szybkowski at 13?)
6 + 7 would be something like MacKenzie + Clark OR MacKenzie + Phillipou OR Clark + Phillipou

depends what you're looking for i guess, if you get 6 + 7 keep it unless you can get a straight swap for 2 + 13 i guess?

2 and 13 for me.

You'd be getting a top 2 junior mid in the country (Wardlaw) or probably the biggest potential match winner in the draft (Sheezel).

We desperately need absolute elite talents on our list.

Clark seems the safest option around pick 6 or 7, but I think we have his size and game covered with Ward already.

Outside of that, it seems most draft watchers are really varied in McKenzie, Humphrey, Hewett and Phillipou. Every chance one slides to 13.

With Wardlaw and his hammies - would we want to risk Pick 2 on him?
Personally, I’d prefer Sheezel, Cadman, Tsatas and maybe some others.

Sticking point for me is if MacKenzie is still on the board. If we could land MacKenzie + Clark I wouldn't bother trading but 6+7 becomes less enticing if it means Clark + x.

Wardlaw + Hewett would be my picks at 2 and 13 which i'm not sure if its actually better than MacKenzie + Clark but it would be safer.

If we get pick 2 it has to be cadman for me and best mid available at next pick. Midfield can be targeted every year, for mine Cadman is a rare talent that comes around every so often and only ever at the very pointy end of the draft.

With 6 and 7 you have the ability to plan your way through the draft back to back picks are gold. Especially top 10. So for instance you can go mid forward or mid defender or forward defender. It doesnt matter. Pick 2 is nice no doubt but the next pick leaves a lot to chance. We could literally be picking some one we rated at later becuse for instance all our options for that pick have already been drafted
