Firstly, the "No Kane Cornes" Rule is back

Kosi to dees for their future first (and Bedford?)

Outside maybe Taylor Walker or mcstay (pies) what other key forwards could dees get? And they need a kpf urgently. He will be the cheapest on dollars and can provide a contest.

Even for a future 4th?

Also isn’t Gunston a FA?
The team on top of the ladder which won the flag in 2021 and will probably make the PF as a minimum needs a KPF urgently? Are you serious? They seem to be going along okay as they are and have Weideman running around at Casey more often than not .

The only thing Melbourne are missing is a top quality key forward, but Kosi ain't that. They have many fringe forwards that do the role Kosi does.

Clayton Oliver just signed a reportedly big 7 year deal, would have to assume that means some players get pushed out.

People can talk about how the Hawks team stayed together for flags, but we never locked multiple players into super long term deals like Melbourne now have with Petracca and Oliver.

Sam Weideman? Maybe because he's been in the league for 7 years and barely averages a goal a game in the seniors and has never kicked over 20 in a season. Lucky to still be on a list tbh, someone pulling a good game out of their clacker once a year when Casey play Box Hill doesn't make them a good player.

Melbourne definitely lack a top-end key forward, which is fine. Pretty much every club has a weakness.

Correct. We only did 2 years at a time from memory.

We also had the luxury of Buddy's contract being pulled which then got used to re-sign players like Breust.

Pretty much, and Melbourne have close to the equivalent of Buddy deals in Petracca and Oliver on their books. Would hazard a guess that acquisitions like May and Lever aren't getting paid in peanuts either.

How low do you rate Kosi?
I think he’s ok but limited and was also looking at what Melbourne need especially if Jackson leaves he could be a good third forward backup ruck. I rate Bedford and suits us I think they are both around late second early third in terms of a pick

Yup - the squeeze will come. Jackson and Brayshaw won't come cheap either. Something has to give unless they are having Brian Waldron run the books.

We should absolutely be elbow deep in the Brayshaw enquiries.

Would people be interested in James Harmes as a George Hewett style mature mid recruit if he was forced out due to Melbournes tight salary cap?

Is a good player when he's up and about but never gets the opportunity to be THE guy with Oliver, Petracca and Viney ahead of him.

Would be a great acquisition if we traded one of Mitchell or O'Meara IMO.

There was an article recently suggesting one of he or Brayshaw may be forced out. That's why I've brought up the possibility.

Do people really think players in Melbourne’s best 22 will be forced out?

Can’t see it.

Would depend on players having taken paycuts with the long-term deals to create flexibility. However this isn't like Richmond where basically only Dusty would have been on silly money when they got Lynch in the door on a deal structured to get around cap pressures. You'd have to imagine Petracca, Gawn, Oliver, May and Lever would soak up a fair bit of cap space and then you have Jackson likely commanding big money to stave off West Coast/Fremantle and Brayshaw as a freen agent apparently not signing a $750,000 p.a. deal. I wouldn't be shocked if at least one premiership player has to get squeezed out to allow all those key players to re-sign.

Ironical references don't count.

Only bona-fide "Trade Breust!" posts are eligible.
Fair enough. My point was to save everyone the trouble of making the posts. I guess, it should have been pinned.

The situation isn't quite the same, but there is a reason Collingwood traded Stephenson, Phillips and Treloar and not Chugg, Murphy and Kelly.

If Melbourne prioritise signing Jackson and Brayshaw and they don't take under what they're worth, The Dees won't suddenly be in a better position trading out Kyle Chandler and Joel Smith.

In saying that, I wouldn't mind snagging my other favourite from the 2020 draft Bailey Laurie. Hasn't debuted yet but looked very solid for Casey when I've watched them play.

They won’t lose anyone. The only players that will leave will be on their own accord.

The wishing and hoping that Melbourne can’t manage their cap is going to be fruitless.

Add in Ben Brown and Tom McDonald as KPF that will finish up soon too!

Would like us to continue to look at draft capital through trade and bring in established talent via FA.
FA targets:
Amon
Cottrell
Brayshaw

Trade targets I think would suit us:
J.Sharp
Hollands
Robertson
Laurie
Bruhn
Flanders

I'd love for us to really target Gold Coast and look to get a similar deal to what Freo got from them last off-season...

  • Titch + 2022 third for Sharp/Flanders 2022 second round
  • Gunston (we take salary) + 2022 second for GCS 2022 first round

I think we'll see something like
Brocky for 2022 third round WCE

I wouldn't be surprised if we saw something along the lines of

- Worpel + 2022 third round for Geelong 2022 round one

I expect we'll see all of Shiels, Big Boy, Smitchell, Saunders, Hartigan, & Howe all moved on too- combine that with a couple smart trades and we'll be another very different looking team again next year!
