List Mgmt. Hawk's List Management for 2025

Usually do one of these before the trade period but was caught-up with other stuff this year so here is my post-trade period update! This is what I have at the moment. As you can see, firstly the list is STACKED in terms of talent (which we already knew) but is also pretty close to being completely full as it is. If what I have is correct, then we have 36 primary list, 4 Cat A and 1 Cat B locked in for next year which leaves us with limited options in terms of drafting next month and SSP/MSD in 2025.

If I had to guess, I'd say we are likely to delist-then-rookie one or both of Gunston and/or Breust for flexibility. Regardless, we can only intake a max of 2 players to primary/Cat A list at the moment plus the option of another Cat B player if we want (which I suspect we will re-sign Bennetts with).

As usual, if you spot any mistakes then please let me know :)

Yeah probably should have put Frost …… but got a feeling Weddle will become one of the most versatile players in the comp. Can play him anywhere!
Hey Matey, do we start him on the wing? Then rotate him thru the forward line with the talls as they take a rest on the bench. They guy has a super charged tank and could throw some confusion thru the defensive set up of the opposition by randomly bobbing up and slotting a few. Sam loves this style of player movement during games.

The depth is phenomenal moving forward, which is great because in out dominant/threepeat era, we used 30'ish players each season and covered losses to injury/rest beautifully.

I don't think it can be understated how important it is to have Finn and Morrison as diehard hawks through and through as our players right on the fringe of the 22. I think if they weren't, they would've gone elsewhere in the trade period.

Plenty of clubs came knocking trying to pry them out and both said no. Would love for their faith to be repaid with a flag at some point 🙌
Pretty much every team has to use 30ish players across the season.

The idea that you can roll out your best 22 in any given week is completely unrealistic.

Week in/out player rated 26 is in the seniors unless the injury list is exceptionally short.

Finn and Harry played both finals. Frankly they were clearly in the best available 23 at the end of the season.

So it’s no surprise they want to stay at Hawthorn and continue to be best 23 players with us.

They were in the best available.

They're not in our best 22/23 if all are fit.

My point was, until this off-season, we've lacked depth and we've needed to play blokes who aren't yet AFL standard in the firsts due to need/injury.

Good teams have deep lists, we now have a deep list but in the last 3-6 years we haven't.

Not sure I agree with this statement. Who are you talking about? Below are the players that played less than 10 games in 2024

Hey BM I hope we have the most lethal wing combo on the planet that will run teams off their feet …….. while still having Weddle up Sam’s sleeve to utilise in all positions depending on the opposition or moments in games!

“Best 22/23 if all are fit” is not a static concept.

We had a PCM winner (Worpel) and one of our higher rated defenders (Scrimshaw) both playing at Box Hill due to form in 2022 and 2023 respectively. Despite being available, they weren’t in our best 22 at the relevant time, because they were playing poorly.

It happens.

Weddle amon Sicily can fire long bombs. Good luck flooding against the hawks,

Edit I think I meant dambrosio

I wonder if we will ever see a 3 point revolution equivalent in footy. Just stacking your team with guys who can take shots from 50+ with ease.

A goal from 1m is worth the same as a goal from 75m.

Players that can bomb goals from 60m are already in demand, but not if they can't do the basics.

Bangers saying next years draft isn’t looking great overall but it is looking good for WA prospects 12 months out. Holding a first and second next year could possibly be enticing to a WA team if there is a trade to be done, if you Reid me.

Reid between the lines- Eagles have stiockpiled picks for a big play on Warner next year because they're already salivating at a team including Chad & Harley.

Reid the room - I’m not sure Harley wants to be in WA and if that is the case then I hope Chad doesn’t slip on the puddle of drool.

If we are looking at taking Cody Anderson as an NGA rookie and have already signed Jamie Uhr-Henry, does that mean Bennetts needs to be upgraded to a Category A rookie now that he has been retained?

Re the delisting's, feel for O'Sullivan. Had some injury issues over his 2 seasons and whilst i like Bennetts effort and tenacity, I thought O'Sullivan had more tricks. Hopefully he gets a 2nd chance somewhere.
Yep. I thought O’Sullivan was fantastic when he played for Box Hill. Loads of talent.

Pretty gutted he’s gone tbh. I know he’s had some injury concerns which didn’t help but if he can get his body right I think he’ll be a quality small fwd with X factor if he lands at another club.

What are your thoughts on Bennetts, TGG?

He's giving Mathew Stokes vibes to me.
Yeah good comparison. But it's hard as he's always injured :(

But when I have seen him, i really see something I like.

Butler will get some time with Hokball next year, so that will be interesting to see if Watson and Ginnivan make his life a bit easier

Think Butler is more suited to the Moore/MacDonald role, it would have been interesting seeing him given a chance there if MacDonald got some more midfield minutes next season.

Butler hasn't shown a lot but I do remember Sicily suggesting during the 2020-21 pre-season that He could be the pick of our three top recruits from the 2021 draft (Ward and MacDonald being the other two). Maybe Sicily is just a poor judge but I do hang on to that notion.
And as we know, Sicily was delisted by the fans so we know some take more time

Alas for O'Sullivan , in came Watson and we traded in Ginnivan.

A leg break is a serious injury, hopefully he can come back better buts it’s such a tough thing. Fortunately he is still young

Carlton go okay when McKay and Curnow are clunking them.

Neither are particularly agile nor are they tackle machines.
Are you going to fix up your post, ? It should read

“Both are particularly fragile nor are they tackle machines. “

No need to thank me just helping out where I can
