Autopsy Hawks lose another close one to dees

I don’t think we’re too far away, but it ain’t gonna happen for us this year.

We’ve got enough talent on our list to fill out spots 8-25. Some of them are kids and need more games (our flag years were not carrying multiple blokes with under 50 games). eg scrimshaw, Moore, Morrison, cousins, Lewis.

I reckon we just need 3-4 more stars.
- Mitchell back is one.
- Cogs would be number 2 if we can pull it off.
- we desperately need Lewis to turn into an A grader. It’s a punt and we don’t have a backup.
- not clear where another superstar comes from.

I reckon Skrillex was a pretty costly miss yesterday.

I appreciate that he had to be rested sooner/later & that we should have won regardless, but in hindsight, I reckon his playing changes the result.

Not blaming anyone. It's more that I like what he brings & reckon it really makes us better.

Defensive structure was good. Struggled with ball in hand.

Stratton hasn't been great but those expecting him to be up there in dreamteam/whatever are going to always be sorely disappointed. Even his best seasons he gets what? 7 kicks a game? His level has dropped but he's never been an accumulator.

Sadly we used to have a handful of league wide top 25/50 players. Now we have 2? and 1 is in the stands.

We are just going to have to work our arse off every week to be fair to middling until we get a couple of real stars.

I’ve got no idea what we are trying to do? I don’t mind losing when you can see the plan and what you’re trying to become, but at the moment it looks like we’re trying to play our 3-peat game with a team that’s half as talented and half as fit...
This. Let the kids play and develop. When Clarko first arrived he preached patience and developed a game plan.

At the game yesterday I couldn't help thinking that we don't play the "Throwdog game" very well. It's chaotic and inaccurate - which is why it was so frustrating to watch guys like Breust and Burgers miss targets too many times.

The tackler was hardly ever rewarded and illegal disposal was never paid. I am with Clarko on this, if illegal disposal was paid more often we would see a much better standard.

Just like the days back in 05/06 when the Swans ugly, lock-it-in, rolling maul game plan held the upper hand, I am waiting for the current style to be superseded. I vowed then (and kept it) that I would not go to another Swans/Hawks game until they changed their game. Last night I turned off the Throwdogs/Tigers game and I will be doing the same every time a game degenerates into that style.

So after letting yesterday’s performance settle in and not letting my emotions post anything on here I think the best case for us moving forward and I know a lot will not like to hear it but would be for us to finish as low as possible. Yes there is the reward of the better draft pick but also the added benefit of not having a difficult draw going into next season. Having a look at our next 7-8 games is a result of us finishing top 4 last season and as many have mentioned our depth issues are already testing us.

Now before everyone gets the knickers in a knot I want to make it clear that I don’t want us being a perennial cellar dweller but as I’ve mentioned in a previous post we were put behind the 8 ball when Mitchell broke his leg. What I envision for us is a Port Adelaide type draft haul if we happen to finish in the bottom 4-5 spots. If we could somehow snag 1 of Noah or Rowell with our 1st pick and then use whatever to the select Maginness it will go along way to shoring up our depth and quality young aged prospects.

This is not even getting into wether Coniglio could be secured in free agency along with the impending return of Tom Mitchell. One thing for sure is the next 7-8 weeks will be a a sliding door moment for this great club.

No mate. We lost to a team that had won one game. The week prior we just beat a team that had won one game. Add losses to the Saints and Bulldogs, and there is clear reason for concern.

The reaction seems stark because we are not used to this. It's a really delicate space our list is at.
Yes. But in reality I don’t think anyone expected us to be strong this year, especially with Mitchell out. I know it’s only one player but he is integral in the way we play, and with some key players out of form or dare I say, lost some desire, this year will be a struggle. At this rate, we will certainly finish in the bottom 4 or 6 and have a decent crack at the draft.

Unpopular opinion, but I can’t see the point of playing Roughead rest of year? He’s more than cooked. Maybe a mid season retirement to allow a mid season draftee. There is a few forwards we could look at going into next year. There is this Michael Bennell from Perth, absolute Livewire. It’s really hard to watch rough now ( I know he kicked a good goal) but going forward it makes sense.
I actually thought Rough was OK yesterday. But our forward line and especially delivery to it is a shambles. Another thing, I have never seen so many Hawks players spoil each other at contests yesterday. One resulted in an easy goal to Melbourne. The defence just not clicking and knowing what each other is doing.

A thorough dissection of what killed it? If only it was...

It's 200 'doctors' standing around a body, wailing "YOU'RE DEAD, HOW **** ARE YOU?"
Not true. This autopsy thread deeply reflects our entire season to date and appears an accurate reflection of 7 tottally unconvincing games so far in 2019. It is not just about yesterday. Imo posters are realising that we will not challenge this year. Clarko has labelled us middle of the road. I think he also sees the value in releasing some pressure on the group.
We have injected new players and youth into our side. Clarko lamented our lack of cohesion last week. We do have to be patient now and enjoy the development of the squad and youth this year.

I didn’t even turn it on.

I have been dissapointed with Scully, he does not seem to be able to win a contested ground ball. One on one he regularly loses. I know he is outside but so was Hill and he was able to break even if not win a 50 50. Not blaming Scully but I have very little confidence when he is one out.

I urge fans to watch more Box Hill. It’s very entertaining and successful

I agree with you mate. It's still too early, but I'm starting to get really frustrated.

Even more concerning, it was stark to see on the half-time siren his efforts were frustrating our leaders. That's not a good sign for a bloody 25 year old, man, seven games into a new club. That attitude is not what we have been built on.

I actually though Chad handled it ok at half time, he was copping a fair ribbing from some club legends and he didn’t look he was biting back more so giving the “boys, faark, I thought I’m doing what I’m supposed” response. I’m not seeing anything alarming with his attitude, what is alarming his inability to really impact games.

Maybe he needs more midfield minutes, he has the ability to really cause havoc but defensively he may be a liability.

Until we get some decent flow and connection from mid to forward then he’s going to continue to be no good.

If it took them until now, after losing our only A-grade mid for the year in January, to realise that this year would be a struggle, there is quite a level of mental deficiency/refusal to face reality there.

Perhaps it's just me but I am much happier we beat the blues by 5 points and lost to the demons by 5 than the other way around.
Also we had the 3 youngest players on the ground in Lewis, Moore and Worpel and 2 other young regulars in Cousins and Scrimshaw sitting it out. Those who say our team is too old are not correct. Refer as well to Box Hill's high ladder position.

Im sorry but his become more of a liability the longer he plays, he literally can not run or jump, also can’t duke them. Little cameos for minutes hear and there during games isn’t enough.
