Autopsy Hawks lose another close one to dees

If it took them until now, after losing our only A-grade mid for the year in January, to realise that this year would be a struggle, there is quite a level of mental deficiency/refusal to face reality there.

Honest to God, the hysterical reaction to losses doesn't seem to reflect this understanding at all.

Our list has holes, as happens when you haven't had a top 10 pick for years. We also have ageing players. But we also have a lot of later pick gems (eg Hardwick/Sicily/) and trade bargains (eg Scrimshaw/Scully). Coniglio is a must next year, development of some younger players (Lewis/Moore) to continue.

But we're not a basket case that needs to delist everybody and begin again. We're definitely middle of the road. For how long remains to be seen

Middle of the road? Let’s see if you have that same thought in 5 weeks lol

100% man.

That's a massive concern for me.

Especially with us sending a player out the door, who didn't want to leave. If he has come in, and isn't fitting our culture it can have a really destabilising impact on the group.

I call BS on this part. His name came up and he didn’t like it, so he sulked off like a spoilt little brat. My read is that if he said he wanted to stay, the HFC would have gladly kept him, and found another way to satisfy Port.

Not the player he was before the captaincy unfortunately, if the club could have their time again Jack would be skipper.

And we would be having the exact same conversation regarding Jack given his form, would we not?

At the game yesterday I couldn't help thinking that we don't play the "Throwdog game" very well. It's chaotic and inaccurate - which is why it was so frustrating to watch guys like Breust and Burgers miss targets too many times.

The tackler was hardly ever rewarded and illegal disposal was never paid. I am with Clarko on this, if illegal disposal was paid more often we would see a much better standard.

Just like the days back in 05/06 when the Swans ugly, lock-it-in, rolling maul game plan held the upper hand, I am waiting for the current style to be superseded. I vowed then (and kept it) that I would not go to another Swans/Hawks game until they changed their game. Last night I turned off the Throwdogs/Tigers game and I will be doing the same every time a game degenerates into that style.

I’m with you Argy. I do not watch Bulldogs game now. I usually like watching Richmond, but given the games on last night (Bulldogs, plus West Coast v Gold Coast), decided to go and support the Southern Huskies basketball. Even though the Huskies lost it was a cracker of a game, and far more enjoyable than watching AFL in its current form.

I’m not sure what people were expecting this year from us? We have the worst midfield in the league without Mitchell. We were pretty shallow in that area even when he was playing. We have ageing players and have had injuries already. Players don’t just come back in and go at 100%. Scully is obviously going to take time after his injury and Wingard has missed pre season and the start of the season as well as learning our systems. Scrimshaw, Lewis, Moore etc coming into the team. Brand and O’Brien having to be out key defenders, more responsibility heaped on Jaeger and Worpel. We might be trash until round 15 and then start seeing some improvement ala 2017 without getting pumped by 80 points every week. And Melbourne are better than an 18th.

Smashed by 30 + in contested footy, look to have zero desire for the contest, massive crossroads situation developing at Hawthorn.

What crossroad would that be

No, you're right, sorry...

I'll start being more constructive...

Such a wonderful base for discussion, doom saying...

Wingard missed 9 weeks of pre season coming into the year.

Imagine training for a competitive sport and you give your competitors 9 weeks head start on you .

I feel for Chad right now. The supporters want the Chad of 3 years ago to flash in and win us games but he is well short of fitness and you can see it from a mile off.

Patience with Wingard is needed..... a little like Burger in his first year with the club.

We are all aware of his interrupted pre - season -we can live with that. Again its all about his attitude and quite frankly his attitude sucks. His pooor attitude isn’t something new either. Cast your mind back to his draft year. He basically told GWS that he would run back to mummy once his two years was up if they drafted him. This is common knowledge and GWS were were pretty pissed off with the whole don’t draft me crap.

Port wanted him out as he was seen as a cancer on the club again due to his poor attitude and his negative influence on some of the younger players. They did everything they could to make it work but Chad just wanted to do what Chad wanted. So again I was stunned when the club sold the farm to bring this type of player in.

Comparing Wingard to Burgoyne is ridiculous. They are both great players but that’s where the comparison ends - Burgoyne is a first class citizen, great team man, great familly man and inspirational leader. Chad plays for Chad only, its not a personal dig, its just who he is and always will be

IMO we have compromised our club culture and values with this trade. A leopard never changes its spots.....

Yes. But in reality I don’t think anyone expected us to be strong this year, especially with Mitchell out. I know it’s only one player but he is integral in the way we play, and with some key players out of form or dare I say, lost some desire, this year will be a struggle. At this rate, we will certainly finish in the bottom 4 or 6 and have a decent crack at the draft.

After listening to Clarko’s press conference what I took from it I think what we are going to see over the rest of the season is the kids be played. He was prepared to play all our ageing vets to see how they fared even if they were a little sore (ie Smith, Big Boy etc). I wouldn’t be surprised to see the season go into full development mode after the next 3-4 games.

Finishing in the bottom 4/5 spots could be the silver lining to a shitty season of injuries along with the injury to Tom. The positives is we get to pump games into our youngsters and by more than likely not winning many more games get a good draft pick and a softer draw next season. Everyone’s expectations need to be tempered a bit and realise where our list is at. We’ve got some great pieces in place but what happens from here is vital in the next wave coming through. Play the kids!

We lost to Saints/Dees/Dogs/ barely got past Carlton and scraped past north. One would realistically say we’re a bottom 3rd team, but if you want to live in a fantasy land go for it.

Being 13th is exactly where we deserve to be, Clarko said exactly that.

I get your concerns but let it play out for a while first before going too hard on him. He’s played a handful of games for us.

**** off with your 'fantasy land' horseshit, you misery merchant.

We've led most games, fought back in most games, lost two by less than a goal, been robbed by umpire in one. In ONE game, we were outplayed (Geelong) You say how bad it is we lost to the Dogs, who flogged Richmond by 7 goals last night.

The league is very even. We could be 5-2, we could be 2-5.

All you want to see is the negative, The only fantasy-land here is the one where you think you are the voice of reason.

Would love to see Harry Jones play the rest of the year along with Cuz and Moore, happy to keep rolling with Brand and would like Lewis to stay In especially if it was a choice between Ruff and Mitch.

Fair call - I’ve probably gone a little too hard on him too soon. FWIW I hope I’m wrong and have totally misread him. Just concerned about what I’m seeing so far - prove me wrong Chad!

Why’d you delete my post when I asked you to predict the next 5 games for us?

You can’t even engage in a legitimate conversation, your carry on is a wee bit loopy my man.

Chad will come good, he has to much talent and you have to have faith in our system for the long term.. I don’t have issues with his attitude, just want him to give away the little one handers and fancy pants stuff.

I'm not getting into a pissing contest for internet bragging rights. And I sure don't jump to YOUR beck and call. Deleting your post was kinder than letting you know how little I want to interact with your chest-puffing, but seeing as you insist

I don't bother speculating, unless its in a betting shop. It's pointless, apart from the 'bookmark it" brigade. I'll wait and see what happens. You feel free to say what you want, and I'll respond when I want to, not when you tell me to.

Knew you had nothing.. as you where mate

Midfield doesn't bat deep enough and we butcher it going forward. Echoing the thoughts of others, Mitch Lewis needs to be left in the side and I'd also leave TOB at centre half back for the year. Would also like to see the Chad planted in the middle as it may improve the quality of forward line entries as well as taking pressure off Worpel and Jaeger.
