Autopsy Hawks v Shockers

I don't know if we're actually good, but at the very least I don't think any of the teams 5th to 8th are better than us. Just that kind of year, but very encouraging that we don't have to catch up to a team that was on the caliber of the Swans, Cats and Hawks of old.

Can't get ahead of ourselves though. Could just as easily start the next year playing rubbish again, like we did post 08 for a few years.

Fremantles marking, lol.

Form shows a big drop off below us on the ladder two of our upcoming opponents are there. The others are between five and ten. Richmond being the one who troubles us

In fact only the swans and Adelaide have better form, and we gifted them their most recent loss

What was the deal with Sicily and Duryea? I was watching at the pub but with no audio and couldn't quite work out what was happening.

Sicily's just an angry lad. Getting your face smashed in by a footy at close range - and almost a boot along with it - had him seeing red and mouthing off at the umpire even though there wasn't really a free there. Duryea came in presumably to calm him down and got a few angry words and a small shove for his efforts. They were together singing the song though so there's probably no bad blood - just a bit of unprofessionalism.

Hilly still bleeding brown and gold
Very true but being with his family won out.
But you don't leave the family club and not take something of it with you.
Like Sammy and Lewie in particular, Hilly always be a Hawk.

True, I wonder if that would make Strats and Chip nervous. We were woeful at the start of the season in defence. Our kids are smashing it. Not bad for a team with no depth or young talent!

Those two are definitely not walk up starts when they are fit. The common denominator with Strats and Chip is that they don't hurt you with ball in hand (very much pure shut down backmen). Compare them with Sicily and Burton who give you run and pinpoint disposal of half back which is the way the game is headed with your half backs being a driving attacking force (i.e. Jayden Hunt and Jason Johansion).

We were actually good, in spite of Freo trying to drag us down to their level.

Where the hell are Stratts and Chips going to fit into that back line next season. She's gunna be a tight fit.
It just means Burton can go forward or through the middle.

Was just making an observation, what he chooses to do with his career is his business. Hughly doubt he will see a premiership while he is in his prime if ever at all and thats the choice he has to live with.

My observation is that it says mountains about the bloke. Great player. Very young group. Could've got more money at an immediately finals bound club. Champion.
Wish there were more Nat Fyfes.

Hardwick Burton Howe Sicily and Mitchell are now our most consistent players. A great group of kids to build our future around.

Our team has changed so much since the start of the year. At this point we might be better off trading Stratts and/or Frawley at the end of the season.

Our injuries this year have been a blessing in disguise.

Gibson, Stratton and Frawley were stinking up the joint before they got injured. Burton, Hardwick, Sicily and Brand have been terrific.

Gibbo may get a farewell game but he will finish up at seasons end. I think there is still a spot for Birchall which will allow Burton to move up ground. But Frawley and Stratton? I'd explore their trade value, especially Frawley's.

We're playing eight defenders now as we know the young blokes need support. Works well as a way of protecting our defence, not so well when we force the turnover then have to chip it around the halfback line for half an hour till someone manages to run forward.

Clarko has done a magnificent job of adapting our game plan to cover our deficiencies, which accounts for the turnaround in our fortunes this year, but make no mistake- we're a mid-table team at the moment.

There's also little doubt we'd be a better side with most of our starting backline back in the team (not to mention Cyril & Poppy), as we'd be able to adapt our structure again to be more attacking.

I reckon we're a good chance of threatening again next year if we have a better run with injuries, but I think we'd look a hell of a lot better with Frawley and Stratts back. Would allow us to play Gunston & Sicily forward and both of them can take a mark occasionally- Sicily especially.
