Okay the liquor has left me...I'll post some observations I can vaguely recollect.

1. We were average. We played that poor and did it easy. The upside is scary if we can actually defend and go forward correctly.

2. I thought Woodward was no chance. He looks slow and has poor disposal at BH, but then I remembered BH is a graveyard for form.

Woody looks excellent and steps up when it's faster. Will make it :)

3. Lewis, Hodge, Mitchell...usual suspects :)

Agreed. Needs to be No 1 on the shopping list.

Six foot four to five, 95-100kgs, with a good tank.

Kaiden Brand is developing at Box Hill right now. Big guys take time.

You have to know the background.
I'm reading bigfooty while sitting at a pool watching my kids play......in Kansas city, which is where I've found myself living.
I left Melbourne 14 years ago but Hawthorn ALWAYS was, always will be such an important part of my day, of my life. I used to make do with the aged and hairy sun for all news Hawthorn before I found this site, but now this place is a must visit every day!
Thanks for making me smile, thanks to all on here for supporting the mighty fighting Hawks, and let's write a stunning new chapter for all those glory denying sycophants from the other clubs and media who have never truly, truly paused to consider what our club has done playing the greatest game on earth.
The beautiful thing for us is, it will just be a step to next amazing story called the Hawthorn Football Club.

Did you get to watch the game live?

Not much love for Simpkin in this thread. Sacrificed his own game to take out Malceski's influence.

Page 7 has a smattering of man love. I'll grab some tissues and clean up the mess, sorry.

Simpkin has showed some poise the last couple of weeks. He's not the most talented bloke, but geez I can respect someone who just keeps on having a dip.

Joffa had the job on Malceski and other than 14 kick outs I hardly saw him (Malceski) make an impact! Well done Joffa! He stays in as the close checking HF as that releases the 'Pop' to do all sorts of damage inside. Fitty!

Simpkin played a role to a tee. He was involved in a couple of big plays in the last quarter. He's kept his place for next week.

Who goes out?

Schoey --> Lake
Woody --> Sewell
Langers --> Cyril
??? --> Spangher
Lake, Sewell and Rioli should be it. Well balanced team. Simpkin might make way for someone. There is an element of horses for courses though. That said, I love how we didn't get freaked out by Sydney's talls and focused on midfield strength and pace

A few random thoughts:

1. The $wans "amazing" forward line: if you take Buddy out, they are average. It's just that when they play their usual boring, defensive lockdown game, they don't need many goals to win. Stop Buddy and they are in trouble.

2. We had enough of the play in the second half to turn them over good and proper. We really controlled the game completely for the last quarter and a half. But, I think it's better that we won by a small margin. It leaves a little in reserve for next time.

3. Poppy: he's got the skills to be a good midfielder, but he's damn good at being a pest! There are a few $wans defenders who had to change their underwear after the game.

4. I love the sight of Longmire going off in the box. Almost as funny as the Scott lunatics.

There's lots more to do this year, but one more step on the way.

I know a few have said well done shiels for keeping Kennedy quiet, but am I the only one who thought it was hodge minding him most of the night?

Buddy kicked 3 goals from 20 touches and 8 fend offs to the face. This year the media say he was outstanding, yet if he had a game like that last year, the media would only talk about how brilliant his opponent had been...

Yep like when he 'only' kicked 3 goals against Gibbo in the 2007 Semi Final

They must have anticipated a Swans win eh?

I think they take the opportunity to have interstate players on when they are in town, but no doubt they thought they would be talking about a Swans win. It was pathetic anyway, just another Swans love fest, you would have thought they won.

Wow, I guess we know where that writers allegiances lie although I just saw it was Neil Cordy so say no more. Buddy was outstanding, Goodes was outstanding - in fact if he had been paid a controversial mark, $ydney would've LOST by 4 points instead of 10. Oh, and had Buddy kicked straight how would've come close to winning Sydney the game. Not only are they the best team ever but brave as well. WTF???

Yeh I love the 'if buddy had of kicked straight......' Shit

IF BUDDY HAD OF KICKED STRAIGHT WE WOULD OF WON THE 2012 GRAND FINAL!

Swans back 6 is not good at all. How they think they can win the flag with that back 6 is beyond me. I think out best back 6 Schoey, Gibson, Stratton, Litherland, Birchall, Lake all have shown the ability to play 1 on 1 on the last line of defense. Sydneys back 6 is bad and it shows when Smith is getting smashed by Breust whats there plan B.......Laidler/Rampe those are horrible solutions.

Sydney are a very simple side isolate Shaw/Rampe/Laidler and they are toast.

Midfeild is not all that flash either they have players like Bird etc who look great against average team but are useless against quality teams.
