Unleash the Worpel.
How has worpels Box Hill form been. There isn’t much at all Box Hill that you could confidently say will end up being quality AFL players in the years ahead. Unless we put very close to our best side on the park we just don’t cut it. As soon as Gunstead didn’t take the field along with the absence of Burgoyne, Birchall and Rioli we were never going to beat the Giants on their own deck. The dogs are going better than us right now , only an off night by them will see us win. Gunston in , langford out.

Ins and outs will be interesting for this week.

Just hoping for a big first quarter. We need to create a buffer. Begging not to concede our standard 3-4 first quarter goals.

Results went our way this round. We are still in it. Also none of the “easy” games are easy at all. Could easily lose the next three.

Oh, and to win clearances! Huge focus this week I would imagine.

Out:
Langford
TOB
Henderson
Ceglar

In:
JOR
Gunston
Worpel
Lovell

Duryea to go back. Worpel on a forward flank. JOR to provide run on the wing. Cegs unlucky but 2 rucks against Boyd is pointless - rough to pinch hit in the ruck.

I reckon your close but Gunner will come in as a defender.

Out: Langford, Henderson, TOB
In: Gunna, O'Rourke, Worpel

Lovell a sneaky chance as emergency.

Worpel and Cousins were among the best for Box Hill which forgot to turn up after half time and got flogged by Richmond.
Those calling for JOR and Lovell to be elevated may well be calling for them to be dropped a week later. Chris Newman has been playing O'Rourke off half back and Lovell off half forward recently, presumably to develop their games and see if they can contribute in those positions if promoted. At AFL level neither would get much midfield time at the moment. I guess we will soon see if the coaching staff has been impressed with their versatility.
Frankly I have my doubts about both of them and feel Worpel and Cousins have more potential although none of them are particularly quick.

And when was the last time he played a full game as a forward? I actually agree with playing him forward, but just disagree that throwing him to the wolves in the senior team without a game or 2 under his belt at BH is going to be doing anyone any favours.

We've been crying out all year for a tall marking forward. I'm not saying Brand is going to instantly fix our woes, but can we seriously wait another 1 to 2 games just to see if it's worthwhile taking a punt? Our finals hopes could end in that time.

He already has AFL experience under his belt seeing first hand how other AFL forwards work which counts for a hell of a lot more for when was his last game playing forward. He's not going to forget how to play forward, if anything his game time down back should be a great learning experience on how to better improve himself as a forward.

Also you need to take into account he trains/drills/plays practice matches against our forwards so he would be somewhat familiar with our forward structure. That is a big plus in my books too.

So no I don't see it as throwing him to the wolves. If anything I think it will free him up and allow him to play his natural game.

Such a log jam between 6th-12th place... Realistically, if we lose this week may as well start planning 2019 and beyond....

Any word on Rioli's return plans? The multiple choice options are:
a) he needs to complete a mini pre-season block
b) straight in the seniors
c) Box Hill

Cousins doing everything right at BHH. Unlucky not to be playing seniors

Love cousins but no....his disposal just isn’t up to scratch at the moment. Wins a lot of his own ball, is starting to run and spread more but lacks polish with his disposals and lacks leg speed. Said it before, cousins really needs to analyse how Brad Sewell went about his business - minimise his weaknesses - kicking efficiency and lack of leg speed. Maximising his strengths - running all day and winning the ball. More importantly Sewell became an expert in trying not to be too ambitious with the length or difficulty in his kicking. Kept in simple - short, sharp precise kicking or handballs.

If cousins can master this I have no doubt that he will become a 100 plus afl player.

Bottom line is 70% of centre clearances are rushed and can go anywhere.
No big deal for Cousins then....

Out: Langford,TOB & Glass.
In: Cousins, Brand & Gunston.

From last Thursday preview GWS vs Hawks:
Ok Wizz is not known for his intellect, but just a thought...
Could we consider playing Brand, and playing him forward? At 1.98m he is taller than Kennedy, Curnow et al. The Big Bud is only 1.96. Lynch is 1.99.
Are his cards marked as purely a defender, or could he be unleashed, set free if you will, to clunk those long bombs we persist with into the forward line? Is there a hidden gem on our list?
Just a thought. Happy to be told Wizz is crazy.

So much for having the easiest run home. All these so called dud teams are all of a sudden playing like their top 8 sides.
We better be switched on or we will get embarrassed by one of these dud teams like we did against the Lions.!

I noticed once on Saturday night Roughy streaming out and taking a mark on the lead in our forward 50. I won't have it! Rogue actions like that will only sow seeds of hope only to be followed by disenchantment and despair as the realization sinks in that it was a one off occurrence, not to mention the confusion it causes the rest of the team as he doesn't look like Ben Brown. Worpel and Cousins in-see ball, get ball, kick goals.

Worpel's form has been good.
Many excellent judges expect him to succeed with a possibility of leading the Mighty High Flying Hawks in the future.

Hawthorn is 2/1 on to win this restaging of the 1961 Granny, with Tom Mitchell playing the Brendan Edwards role.

The fact comments like this are being mentioned just shows how much confidence we have in the ability of this current group.
