You sir are spot on. We pissed and ****** around with it for 10 mins in our fwd line and that disgusting Hill effort turned the game.

Should have ended it right there

My point is Shakes that the fault was Cegs'. I'm not blaming Hilly for a kick at his toes. He led and Cegs didn't hit him. More than many players, Cegs' inabililty to clunk marks - I reckon he got his hands to five or so - nearly cost us the game.

Hill sat back and let it slide past him. He hits up at that ball...we get a second crack.

Hill's 2nd effort was pathetic - he just stood there. Never seen anything like it.

He shouldn't have been in that position, a simple pass should have hit the target, instead he copped an awkward bounce. You get the good with the bad with Hill....without Hill we would have been no chance, he had seven score involvements.

Really surprised they made Wingard the sub and didn't get him on earlier in that last quarter. Thought he was one of their best players this year.

This has been discussed in 'Yabby Vote Thread' briefly and perhaps can be expanded here.

Though Stratts played on Wingard a good part of the game but really it was ring a ring a rosy for players on players (our backs v their forwards).

Felt Stratts did what he was required to do and I had him in our best.:thumbsu:

Agreed, and we didn't get going for the first 15-20 minutes either.

Our disposal in the first quarter was some of the worst I've seen. And I'm not talking about the ones when players were under pressure. A very nervous start.

We won't start favourites next week, which is fine by me.

Agree, nice to go in as the underdog I reckon. Sydney will be talked up relentlessly this week, the media will be all over Buddy this week too. WE can just sit back and enjoy the show.

In regards to our disposal, who was that guy pretending to be Brad Hill last night, his disposal was horrendous.

I reckon our review of the game last night might be fairly brutal. Was a terrible start and end.

My heart stopped - I really thought they had blown it. Year after year they do this to us supporters - selfish jerks :p

Spangher tried very hard to ensure he is dropped
Pop had a shocker
Gunner had a shocker

Langford and Duryea came of age

Hodge and ruff stood up in a final - they were immense

I get the feeling of some negative commentary coming through. Remember the important points before you go rubbishing our game. Firstly, WE WON!
that is a pretty serious evaluation of that match. Before we get all rubbishy and start whacking players over the head , WE WON!

Now the facts Hawks.

Port are fit and fast and are really the fourth placed team in the comp , not Freo. They have a mighty set of up and comers and a mighty set of mature placed players , with two or three real champs in the making. THEY WERE NEVER GOING TO BE EASY. They were always going to put their powerful run and pressure game on us. They did. We never handled them earlier in the year and we nearly (NEARLY!!!) didn't yesterday.

That didn't stop us , we were able to lead after half time until the siren , we were also able to get out to almost a four goal lead at 3 quarter time.
Its time we started saying ...... "it was Port who put themselves under the hammer against a Hawthorn team. That was not "ON" barely at all, in that match" .
Yet with our " not on" standard yesterday we still managed to take a lead at times by up to 29 points, then faltered but had a big gun luckily enough (the general) to kill the final onslaught.

Time was on our side , but we won, and totally deserved to.

Port kicked badly , so did we, at crucial times.

Port were the team that had to play catch up every quarter change, except the first.

We turned the game to the tune of 23 point turnaround in the second quarter.

And built a lead to keep safe from a rampaging Port in the last quarter.

We did that, after the fact that several of our boys looked out of touch and I mean out of touch , Poppy , Gunston, I thought even Issac Smith looked hesitant at least twice yesterday, and Suckling needs telling " make your decision quicker" , he gets caught too often, when he twists and turns.

If players aren't down the ground for a pass at least put that mighty boot into it and send it down the ground, that is old fashioned , but even in today's game sometimes you play it safer. Suckling has been great, but he makes some blues that are turned over and costly.

We fumbled , yes, we were out of touch , yes , we never play that crappy twice. Sydney will have to be in dynamite form to take us , because Hawthorn resolve will being branded into the failure of some players for us yesterday .

Sometimes I think the week off is worse than playing the next week. Port were in over run mode at the end , we will be better for yesterday.

North Melbourne were absolute pretenders Sydney had no opposition!

We owe Sydney a mashing. BIG TIME.

They are the mercenary club, that used to be South Melbourne , they pinched Tipett with consequences for the Crows. And suspension for himself.

So they broke the rules.

They under handedly went about approaching Franklin with an obscene amount of money and from my perception , had him in the "lie" , before our GF last year.

I know Buddy is a good footballer and probably a good bloke , but his desertion to me was a mercenary divisory unfair act.

With greed stamped all over it.

Unfortunately for me, I can't, and will never forgive him, because Hawthorn never deserved to be treated with disrespect like that. He's a traitor.

We owe them payback so badly .

They get looked after, they get the little extras in help, NEXT WEEK WILL NOT BE YESTERDAY!

My intent is not to disrespect port because they were red hot yesterday and would of been worthy winners but did the hawks run out of steam as suggested (they certainly didn't look spent) or did they go too early into preservation mode and stopped when they got 30 points up. It was just so confusing and frustrating watching it happen - as someone else said it was like watching a car accident in slow motion

Don't underestimate the fact that Lewis' injury meant we couldn't sub off a big man.

The plan would have been Ceglar off, Simpkin on: with Lewis off it meant we had a bigger, slower team, and that helped Port to get better run.

I'll tell ya now...just like 2012 prelim...the week off and the twilight game ruined us. Both games out skills were deplorable.

We were putrid for 70% of the match.

I reckon when we were 5 goals up with 10 to play, we were looking at next week. Port were looking at their season ending and pushed harder and we weren't prepared to go with them until it got within 10 points, and even then we tried to slow it down and not work hard.

I think the biggest indictment on many of the guys is Will Langford's effort in his first prelim compared to a few guys who have played in two or three. The guy is a gem.

On the twilight game, have we ever played a good game in that timeslot?? 2012 Prelim, GWS game this year, last night's game, last years game against North.

I have a confession to make

I couldn't watch the final 3 minutes, I was so nervous!
I could see my remote flying through the tv screen if Port had of hit the lead, so I walked outside with my phone and nervously waited 3 minutes before checking the score!
When it said "full time" I raced back inside to the tv, with my wife pissing herself laughing at me
I felt stupid, it's only a game she said, but I just couldn't handle yet another heart-stopping Prelim!

Please forgive me!
Forgiven!

These guys are human beings. WE DID NOT LOSE. Its done and dusted . Hill had a brain fade for a second or two when he couldn't get the ball. Split seconds make things happen ,it was weird , it a once in a career thing. We have to be positve , WE WON. We are in the grand final. The under dog , good.

Gotta remember - how poorly we played at times, we were actually good enough to get up by nearly 5 goals. Port's fitness and us relaxing thinking we had it won, nearly won them the game. IMO we would of beat any other team yesterday.

What was with Gunstan only trying to take chest marks? Cost us numerous times when he didn't put the hands out!

Hand injury?

We are in the grand final. After everything that has been thrown at us this year that is a remarkable effort. Just need to beat those spoon fed COLA pricks for the most famous of premierships.

It is footballs ultimate first world problem to complain about these pesky close prelim finals!

We started poorly and finished worse but in between we played terrific footy and really had the game almost won with 10 minutes left. Just needed one more goal. But prelim finals are dangerous. We knew what awaited the winner and didn't want to spend all the tickets and Port knew they were probably gone and took every risk and played some extraordinary late footy. We didn't run out off legs, we just didn't finish them off when we should have and started to look to next week too early.

Lucky not to blow it but our midfield through the middle of the game was excellent.

Clarko got the lineup wrong playing Spangher and Lewis being subbed off hurt. Hinkley made a brilliant tactical move after that subbing Trengrove off and backing their run and that Spangher and Ceglar would not hurt them. He was right. Spang should not have played last night but he should play against Sydney.

Ceglar and Hale failed to take contested marks all night. Mcevoy in the frame if he plays well today. Rioli plays if he gets through it, Suckling goes out for mine. Obviously hope like crazy that Lewis is ok but Sewell the obvious replacement if not.

Only other change would be if they decide to play rioli as sub then maybe Sewell comes in for Simpkin also. Who knows? It is a credit to our depth. Tough week at selection table. Will be some very good unlucky players.
Someone tell me what Spangher did wrong , as opposed to others who dropped off during the game, the bloke never stops trying , and was up front at times. He's better at half back all the time. Gee I tell you Hawks you are all sounding bloody frightened to me.

Touche!

Well done to your guys... just a wee bit too good when it counted. Congratulations.

I'll be cheering for you blokes next week. Just can't support those COLA campaigners. And you guys play the game the right way.
Haha cheers for taking that sportingly. In all seriousness Port were absolutely fantastic last night. I think in the end our finals experience and composure in front of goal were what got us the win. Port should be better next year for the experience and I wouldn't be surprised to see them go all the way. They'll certainly be the team I'll barrack for if the Hawks can't do it.

He dropped every contested mark he went for, he lost every contest he was in, he was next to useless. Pretty much watch any spangher game and you'll spot what he did wrong.

He didn't get off the leash at any time and he fumbles around very slowly.

I don't rate him for big games but he's depth. Id rather Cheney
