Can anyone tell me in which year Clarko was awarded coach of the year? Surely the best coach of the past 10 years would be a worthy winner??

Allan Jeans Senior Coach of the Year Award
Presented in conjunction with MonJon Australia this award is in recognition by your peers for coaching excellence throughout the home and away season, having regard for prior season’s performance, available resources, player talent and team management.

Winners
2003 - Paul Roos (Sydney)
2004 - Mark Williams (Port Adelaide)
2005 - Neil Craig (Adelaide)
2006 - John Worsfold (West Coast)
2007 - Mark Thompson (Geelong)
2008 - Mark Thompson (Geelong)
2009 - Ross Lyon (St. Kilda)
2010 - Michael Malthouse (Collingwood)
2011 - John Worsfold (West Coast)
2012 - John Longmire (Sydney)
2013 - Ken Hinkley (Port Adelaide)
2014 - John Longmire

Shows how ridiculous that is. For him not to win it in 2013, in a 19 & 3 season is stupendous. Then, for him not to win it with all he overcame in 2014 is just plain bias.

You can make a case for Bomber in 2008 as they were the best team all year until September. However, if you do that then the ttel should have been Clarko's again in 2012. He should rightfully be gunning for 4 straight years at the start of this season.

You mean 2013? If so, I agree..we only lost to two sides all year FfS! People say that the Hawks aren't that talented and it's all Clarko then the same types don't give Clarko any recognition making it seem like anyone can coach this group!!!! It's one or the other or both!

Just 4 / 12 strike rate for flag success.

Matthews and Clarkson (the only three time premiership coaches since the move to the AFL) both missed out :drunk:

How have John Longmire and Bomber Thompson won that award twice FFS that's criminal :drunk:

Paul Roos winning it in 2003 for a non grand final side that plays boring, unattractive football takes the cake.

To be fair though I reckon Clarko couldn't care less. He's like the humble CEO of a company that keeps quietly outperforming the rest of the market, while other flash in the plan CEOs get front page articles written about them before they crash out of existence.

In other words: Clarko = Warren Buffett (in the decades before he was famous), John Longmire = Dick Fuld and Mark Thompson = Bernie Madoff

It's a ****in joke that Clarkson hasn't won it once, while hyped up bridesmaids get it hung around their neck.

They should strike Yabby's name from the medal because it doesn't have an ounce of honour that that great man had.

It's not hard to work out why Clarko hasn't won the award. It's voted by the other coaches, so anyone with a Geelong connection you can count out straight away. The Scott brothers, Sanderson, Hinkley, Thompson, none of these guys are voting for Clarko. I don't think Malthouse is a fan either, neither is Roos.

The only ones voting for Clarko would be, Cameron, Simpson, Hardwick, Lyon, Buckley and Longmire.

Clarko plus two of the other four vote for Longmire and there you have it.

Unfortunately the GWS B&F is already called the Kevin Sheedy Medal, otherwise I'd suggest that's what "Coach of the Year" award should be named. Would be a far more appropriate name given the spuds who have won it. :p

The problem with it is when it's decided.

In previous seasons maybe, but there were absolutely no excuses that could be offered for not selecting him as coach of the year 2014. He had done more than enough before the ball was even bounced in the GF

I don't have a problem with Horse winning 'Coach of the year'. After all, he has had to carry that pretentious bunch of cola-sucking nuff-nuffs all year. Appropriately he is now Coach of the year. On GF day, the the midfield simply missed the bus.

Well, it seems that other factors are taken into account for the Coach of the Year rather than the most obvious, easily measurable and imminently logical: team success. Totally bizarre that a guy who has guided a team to back-to-back flags, in this climate of equalisation, franchise club 'draft hogging' and inequitable draws, that he hasn't snared one yet.

But I don't really care, as I'm sure Clarko doesn't either. His reputation and standing in the game, which continues to grow, speaks way more than anything else.

The AFL scarcely rates our players (few AAs) and the coaches don't rate Clarko as their best yet we keep on winning. Awful lot of head-scratching going on I bet. It is beautiful!

Following Hawthorn my whole life has been privilege. The amount of joy the club has brought me.

I can say only two things that matter, which hardly any, if any, other clubs' supporters can claim.

You see, awards, nominations, claims are one thing, but the thing that really matters, is the ultimate team success: flags. And our club has been pretty damn ruthless and effective and bringing that home. And with that extended and continued success comes a sustained and enhanced supporter experience.

It all comes from team. Maybe being really, really good over many decades tells you something about the true nature of football success: team. And that would be counter to all of those trinket things that get bandied around.

I'm happy to be best club in the land, rather the club with more AAs.
