Patton and Cogs would be one hell of a off season.

Cogs is ultimately what will make or break our off season, pick up a bonafide A grade mid like that as a FA it really doesn't matter much what else happens it'll be a success.

I was told a story recently about off field issues.

There is an AFL player doing well at the moment who had off field issues that stoped clubs from drafting him.

His off field issues were: Both Parents had died, and he was struggling with life as a late teen with no Parents. He was begging clubs to draft him as he saw that as his only way to have a decent life and not be homeless.

Glad a club finally gave this kid a chance.

Was this player cast asunder by not one, but two AFL clubs because of repeated off-field issues that continued into the player being 26, on his final year of a contract and having been warned he was on his last chance? Did this player also have a recurring injury issue with his calves?

Jarman also had a drunk driving incident after his dad died. Not ideal, but understandable. He’s not done anything wrong since and is an example on and off the field.

There’s a big difference between a younger person making some poor choices after a family drama and a bloke who has a history of issues with drugs or alcohol that now stretch over multiple clubs and cities.

Stevo put Patton up on the news, well over an hour before he tweeted and people got excited.

My position is if Patton can stay fit walks into our team, and can go into the ruck so Lewis doesn't have to. Lewis's game on the weekend while great was so much better because he went into the ruck and was competitive, was kept in the ruck as McEvoy was having a shocker early in the last in ruck tap outs, then went up forward to bang big marks.

I get the feeling we take Patton to relieve GWS salary cup issues, Coniglio won't be matched... my guess is Coniglio isn't matched we take Patton in that order. Unlike some clubs we are good for our word. Started in the 60's when JK Snr was coaching and said I never need a contract, continued in the 80's when Jeans said is JK Snr doesn't need anything but a handshake I'm happy with that as I shook their hand.

We are an old school club based on honour. That's who we are, we don't take drugs, we don't rip off other clubs, we don't sleep with our subordinates... oops that is only the AFL not an actual club comparison. We are Hawthorn... and we will be... actually we already are the greatest team of AFL and VFL since we joined without 28 years of an 8 team joke with University in History.

**** I've been blessed by choosing this club and to the 4 year old at my kindergarten who wore a stunningly good Brown and Gold football jumper to my kindergarten and I told my mum I want a brown and gold football jumper now I barrack for them... I truly thank you whoever you are/were. (No one in my family or greater family was Hawthorn that kid if I could ever find him I will buy a slab... minimum) I'm pretty sure he ended up at a different primary school. But hell he did me a favour.

If we had to give up a first rounder and some other pieces for Whitfield, get Patton for a steal and have points to get Maginness in the door then that’s still a big win. That’s two number one draft picks and a first round talent.

Cogs will not maketh the trade period.

Coming out without Cogs or Whitfield is another story entirely.

Patto won't be rucking, Lewis will continue

If Coniglio leaves there is no way GWS trade Whitfield. That just can't happen.

We need to land Coniglio now and try for Whitfield this time next season.

You may be missing the fact that we have fu** all key forward depth at present.

The guy has played 89 games in almost 8 seasons because of injury.
And I think we have a budding key forward already and that our problems are not key forwards, it's the rest of the forward line.

And this guy can't be our answer if he doesn't play.

Clubs have to adapt to free agency and be smarter about it. If Whitfield says he wants to come to us then our first round pick this year and whatever other pick/player we’d have to pay out is better than the compensation pick they’d get next year.

If Cogs goes and they know Whitfield wants to come home then they may as well start the rebuild with 3 first round picks this year (current pick, compo pick for Cogs and our first).

Cool. Name me another gettable quality key forward we can go after this off-season then.

I just can’t see the club throwing Bennell a lifeline. Once upon a time we were the strongest club in the comp with legendary onfield leaders, we took a punt on a troubled kid and we got burnt.
Right now we are trying to re-establish the number one culture in the league and it is not the time to be bringing bad influences into the club, even if they are talented.

Sources close to me have confirmed that Chris Judd is working hard on Coniglio

Judd has said that Carlton is the best option for a superstar player - they pay well, will get good media and be adored by the fans & the best part is there's no pressure to be actually successful.

I don't know of one but I also don't know how a guy who is still recovering from his 3rd knee reconstruction can be considered as solution to our forward problems.

How many big guys have had 3 knees and gone on to have lengthy careers?

You need to get use to it, Flukey. He's coming.

This is all true.. but when I think of Chris Judd I think of two people. The legend from West Coast who pulled his team to a flag and then the corporate sellout who finished his career with a rabble but cashed in. yeah he won a couple of brownlows, IMO he wasn’t deserving of them at Carlton and were meaningless playing for last place.. Judd also retired a lot earlier than Hodge who was drafted in the same year, I wonder how much could be contributed to being run into the ground by the bare cupboard blues. He would never say it but I wonder if he had his time again he’d choose elsewhere.

I know he is mate. The chatter was loud and clear last year.
I just hope we pay no more than another late pick because this guy may not have many games in him.

Patton for a later draft pick and Day as a free agent would sure up our key position stocks. Anyone heard of us pursuing Day? Capable of playing in all 4 key positions.
Tops has suggested Day is looking to stay a Sun. Crazy, I know.
