Fascinating to see how hard they train even from day 1 back. No easing into it.

Was also a quality insight from Burge when he said that while we have started late, our end of last season run of tough challenging games for almost two months means we can 'tap into that' conditioning we got from that experience, and get up and going quickly.

In the snippets you can see that standard for both running and skills have been set very high from Sam and Co, even from the very first sessions of the pre-season.

Our squad doesn't look so young now. We still are a youthful side, who most are still developing, but looking around it looks like we are a fit, strong squad, and body language appears much more confident. Once we ease Barrass, Battle and then Lewis into the side, it is going to be quite formidable with the mix of run, skill, strength, and backbone with a spine.

The logical choice, regardless of where Josh played footy would be John Kennedy Jnr.
He was a champion of our club
John can cut the ribbon to the facility.

Josh can cut the ribbon on the cola vending machines in the staff break room.

Yes, they work hard. Lots of 'core work', which I would love to see commentated by Roy and HG.

Noted also how Sam mentioned that in previous years they'd spend 95% of that first session just having fun. And the emphasis he put on hitting day 1 giving max effort as that would set their own standard for the rest of preseason.

I wouldn't be at all surprised if that line of thinking isn't just a precursor to the attitude he's setting the group up to take into opening round and every game of the season.

The group knows that they have the fitness to run out games and finish strong in a long season. Now it's about starting well to maximize results and give us the best chance later in the year.

Channel 7 will somehow do a worse version of this despite getting to focus on the whole club and having more than 1 day to film
If it was a fox footy production I'd probably give it a go.
C7, even with the hawks as the focus, i won't watch it.
Their entire product is about drama. They'll edit everything to make it seem like there's infighting etc.

Josh is definitely a Sydney person now. However family is family, and doing something to help honour his grandfather’s legacy would be a big moment for him.
I highly doubt that we’d even invite him, so we can forget about it.

And the skill level was noticeable on the first day also.

This is the old iron sharpens iron scenario. We have multiple great runners now like CJ, Finn, Ward and others really challenging and pushing each other in these time trials which will only bring out the best in them. I think you'll really start to see us start to blow teams off the park after halftime because of it as the oppo starts to get gassed. The club is in a good spot fitness wise.

Weddle being the main one. Must be played up the ground now.

Yep building that solid base most of our depth players now have multiple seasons in the system now. Seamus Mitchell, Bailey Macdonald, hustwaite, Serong, Butler, Blank, Ramsden. These guys have had a taste and are physically ready to step up now.

If they’re good enough

Yes, but my point was on their physical development. He have a few fringe guys ahead of those listed that'll be in and out of the seniors through the year. But unlike a few years ago when they got a debut, they are no longer kids in their first game lacking the fitness and strength to contribute well. If we need these guys, they will be much much better prepared now.

Fascinating getting a glimpse of Mitch's focus and mindset from the start...said something like "if you don't leave it out there on the first day (think referring to the 2km time trial) you'll compromise the rest of your running for the pre season" Loved that.

Pretty clear Butler is one of the best runners at the club. The small forward experiment was a failed exercise. He should be trialled on a wing and exploit his aerobic abilities. This would also bring him into the game more.
I think he struggles with football smarts. In my opinion, getting the ball coming at him is his best chance to make it at AFL level. A quick small defender that can also tackle well. That is his go even though we are stacked in defence.
