:D Nope. No Melbourne fan I know has ever admitted to voting no. However, most of them never voted at all as most of them aren't club members.

The thing is that I actually believe most of the dees on Bigfooty would have voted no. You've got to be a passionate supporter to spend your time disucussing your club here. But what has always staggered me is how quick they are to jump to the defence of those (the majority) who did yes with a bunch of fanciful, fabricated nonsense.
Theyve got a better conversion rate then us.

They have 220 000 supporters for 24 000 members while we have 380 000 odd supporters for only 29-30 000 members

I agree.

Melbourne have talent, but they're extremely soft. Without Neitz and the wannabe hitman Miller I suspect they'll buckle under the physical pressure.
And which Hawthorn hard nuts should the likes of McLean, Moloney, PJ, Sylvia (he might be crap like you say but he loves the tough stuff), Bizzell, Rivers etc be afraid of?

Hawthorn fans are not obsessed with Melbourne- that's a load of bollocks. We're obsessed with Essendon, everyone knows that.

The reason Hawks fans are happy to put in their two cents worth in the week leading up to Demon games is because we genuinely don't see you as a threat. Even though you'll probably win tomorrow, and even though you flogged us last year (only once), we still own your club in the true sense.

You can bleat about 5 wins > 1 win all you like, we're happy to cop that. We're sitting second last, and have been rubbish for several years, no one is denying that. However, we're excited about where our club is headed, and are not afraid to publically talk up our future- despite the fact we know we'll lose more than we win for the rest of the year.

But, in the essence of the topic, Hawthorn > Melbourne is unquestionable. Every single time the two team's contest in a battle of significance, Hawthorn has prevailed. Perhaps the only instance where a Melbourne supporter can boast about significantly beating Hawthorn, was when you knocked us out of the finals in 1990. Probably for the best that you did, too, 'cause 9 Grand Final's in a row would've been a bit greedy.

Obviously dwelling on the past is poor form, but, the thread is titled "Hawthorn > Melbourne", and so history is needed to show how clear this is. 1988 Grand Final, 1996 Merger Match, and more importantly, the merger vote, was won by Hawthorn. We set your club back with each victory. Add to that the fact that Jim Stynes handed Bucky a place in history in '87, and you're entitled to upgrade this thread to "Hawthorn >>> Melbourne".

We won't make the finals this year, no worries about that. We probably won't win tomorrow (although we're a big chance for an upset) either. But, at the end of the day, we'll still smile knowing that we'll get to play Melbourne again another time.

We love playing Melbourne, and we love the week leading up to it. We love the fact that everything significant that's happened between our club and your club has been won by us. Hawthorn > Melbourne - without a shadow of a doubt.

Yeah, but your colours are brown and yellow. End of story. :p

Like your choice of football team, you exercise bad judgement. It is Hey Jude by The Beatles, but maybe the thought of four blokes playing musical instruments together was a bit too homo-sexual for your liking.

Melbourne won't even make the finals. This week is the beginning of the end.
ill come back to this thread in a couple of months time and see how accurate u are :)

"Melbourne fan who voted against the merger" is fast becoming another phenomenon like pieces of the Berlin Wall and authentic splinters of Jesus' cross or threads from Jesus' shroud.

If all those things were pieced back together we'd have:
* 7 Berlin Walls
* 22 Authentic shrouds
* 63 Crosses of the crucifixion
...
and
...
:D A unanimous vote by Melbourne members against the merger.

Has there ever been a Melbourne member publically admit to voting their club away ?
That is brilliant.

Would you like me to list them? ;)

Vandenberg, Brown, Hodge, Lewis, Osborne and Everitt.

Good to see we identified a weakness in the Melbourne side and exploited it from before the opening bounce when Vandenberg started up that scuffle at half-forward.

One ingredient it missing to this thread, many fair and reasonable generalisations have been made but one has been forgotten those made have been:

- melb fans all wanted to merge (to inherit premierships)
- melb fans only go to the footy when the team is winning
- melb fans all drive range rovers
- they go to the snow to ski instead of watching footy

The point that has been forgotten it that every single one of them supports the the liberal party. I've even heard a rumour that a petition is being organised to change the dees uniform colour to royal blue and have the liberal party as the front and back jumper sponsor.

also I'll remind demons fans about the well informed comments I made about your lack of tall marking forwards:

That's not why you won though. BTW I didn't even realise Vandenberg was playing! Surely Hodgey would make a better captain.

Yes, he surely would. Vandenberg still has a role to play. But I doubt he'll be in the 22 let alone captain within two years.

Vandenberg has only one talent - aggression. He used it well yesterday. Started that pre-match scuffle and threw his weight around all day. Hodge and Brown can intimidate as well, but they have other talents to fall back on too. Definitely liking what i'm seeing from Lewis, Roughhead and Franklin in this regard too.

We own you, in more ways than one. That will show at 5pm on Saturday when we'll have defeated your sorry "club", if that is what you can call a collection of individuals who don't have a real home, despite being the oldest club in Australia.

And while we are on the topic of a club's 'home', and an extension of that could be club identity - you have to question the situation Hawthorn find themselves in today.

Here's a club that is about to relocate to Waverley (apparently they will continue to train once or twice a week at Glenferrie - weird!), plays some of its home games in Launceston and has a VFL side called Box Hill. Melbourne are probably going to establish a training and administrative base at the redeveloped Olympic Park precinct, so at least they will be back in 'Melbourne', within walking distance of their spiritual home - the 'G.

Melbourne are team that plays home games in Brisbane.

Melbourne a team that cant get more then 15 000 vs a side they suppost to beat.

Melbourne a side that has a researve team called Sandringham, which they never pump money into.

St.Kilda is in the same position re. Launsceston.

What's the theory?
The theory is crock of shyte especially coming from a supporter of a club whose next president is being touted as Jeff Kennett.

I support Melbourne, I hate the Liberal Party so do all of my mates who are both members of the MFC and MCC.
Greg Sword former president of the ALP is an influential patron of our club.
But you don't deal in facts do you?

Sure there are probably a lot of Liberal supporting scum in our ranks but it's the same with any other club.

Supporters of Hawthorn saying that Melbourne supporters have a yuppie, Liberal Party loving culture is a classic case of:

POT. KETTLE. BLACK.
