Why would north have to pay him out if they sacked him? If the allegations are proven correct I’d think that would render his contract null and void.

and if the AFL were aware of the allegations and didnt disclose this to North prior to signing then the AFL will be liable and North could rightfully expect the AFL to fund any settlement agreement with Clarkson... although this is North so the AFL pay for everything anyway.

s**t happens, not trying to make light of what is being exposed. We can use this as an opportunity to start new standards and set a bar for what is acceptable today and in the future moving forward.

It shouldn't be too hard considering what I just read, I have doubts we as a football club could have sank any lower. Just a point in our history where we have a chance to grow and learn.
"Shit happens" would only be an appropriate conclusion for things that happen outside of one's control. What was said to these players and their families was totally in the control of those who said it, and those responsible could of chose differently and far less harmfully.

I imagine a statement like this:

" I have no recollection of the alleged events.

I have a long history of supporting first nations players points to Cyril, Burgoyne and Buddy and was one of the people to speak out against Kennett for his treatment of Cyril. An event that lead to the review being conducted.

While I categorically deny that I have ever requested that a player have their partner terminate a pregnancy or denied a player access to their partner or family; I have taken my role as senior coach seriously when counselling the young men who were drafted to the Hawthorn Football Club on the sacrifices it takes to make it in the AFL.

I have spent part of my sabbatical year with different first nations groups both here and in the US etc etc blah blah blah...."

They will go the denial route 🙁
Great statement...will absolutely be a derivation of this.

It's the kind of thing that may have occurred in the 1930's around the time of the Stolen Generation, but not in the 21st century.

If true, I would hope that Prison sentences follow because that is absolutely deplorable behaviour by senior staff against young indigenous players and their families.

It’s the kind of thing you know happened 50-60 years ago and we’re still trying to heal those wounds. For it to still be happening, abhorrent and despicable. Clarkson and Fagan need to be terminated and can’t be involved with the AFL in any way after this. And anyone else involved.
Assuming this is valid and I am not saying it isn't, the whole report needs to be read, not just the reporting on the report. It also needs to look into other parties. There are coaches from that era at Hawthorn who are at other clubs.

The boys club in the AFL and AFL media do pick some odd things to be outraged and not outraged at. Unsurprisingly racism is in the not be outraged at camp if 'good blokes' are involved.

Aside from how obviously disgusting this all reads, I can’t fathom how the coaches actually thought it was a good idea to cut these players off from their families.

What kind of thought process leads to a conclusion that terminating pregnancies, breaking up with partners and cutting ties with families will help a player settle into a club and concentrate on their football?

Surely having a player happy and benefiting from family support so not wanting to constantly rush back home has to be a good thing, yes?

I dont believe there will be any individual fall-out or sackings from any of this, although the stain on reputations will be huge. Maybe the Player Welfare person in Jason Burt is the scape goat.

It will end up as two diametrically opposing recollections of the same event, with Clarko and Co saying that they only were doing what the player had asked them to do. Player will so they felt 'pressured' but Coaches will say that this was in no way their intent and increidbly saddening it was taken this way, blah blah.

Like always, truth is in the middle. But the bigger disgrace is whether this only happened to indiginous kids or were white players from 'the wrong side of the tracks' also given similar advice?

Clarkson and Fagan most prominent, but I'm sure it's been mentioned numerous times by others in this thread (haven't read it all) that potentially several more clubs are affected depending on when the alleged behaviour actually occurred. The head coach of my team, plus those of WC, Saints (maybe even Richmond) at least could have been there and involved as assistant coaches.

Hopefully it's not true or it's exaggerated, but I'd be surprised if the ABC went with this without some rigour around the investigation. Will (or at least should) make some people's positions untenable.

Jackson is excellent. He's the one who exposed the systemic paedophilic abuse at St Kilda, only for the useless sycophants in the AFL media to ignore it. Let's see if the cowards do anything about this or if they'll be too busy doing lines with Gil at the grand final.
The grooming story was in relation to the Bulldogs not St Kilda. He also wrote the story about Robert Muir, amongst other good pieces of work. Easily the best investigative journalist when it comes to AFL related pieces (and Australian sport in general), he's brilliant.

EDIT sorry my mistake, didn't realise there was also a story about St Kilda he'd done on top of the Bulldogs piece. Goes to show how many clubs have some horrific skeletons in the closet.

Whether it’s voidable depends on the provisions of the contract. Probably would, but you never know with north. Wonder if AFL coaches have standard form contracts.

Got quite distressed reading this.

It’s like something out of a movie or Ozark or something: dodgy looking car pulls up with a bunch of men in black to ‘take care of business’ or something.

Makes me sick to the stomach.

Yes it is a business. It is also football. It is what kids dream of doing when they’re 12 and kicking a ball around the backyard, the cow paddock, or the sandy outback. It’s kids playing for the club they supported as a kid and getting to run out in their colours as an adult a decade later. It’s going to work with your 40 best mates and rejoicing in every personal milestone along the way like parenthood, engagement, marriage, first home purchase, all that sort of thing.

What is being discussed here is evil.

I hope to God my club has not done anything close to this in my lifetime.

The bulldogs also had a big grooming story, harrowing stuff

They should get these reviews done AFL wide, get it all out in the open...

Yep, get the skeletons out of the closet for every club and then bring in new rules on how clubs are allowed to treat players, eg not being allowed to take away a players phone unless it is 1 hour before a match, oh, and not ordering a player to tell his partner to get an abortion, simple stuff like that.
