More Aboriginal deaths are natural. Non Aboriginal have higher rates of things like suicide, overdose, etc.

Or Bevan Spencer Von Einem dies of old age when he is 85 because he is locked away for life or Ivan Milat dies because he has cancer, where as a Aboriginal youth transferred from Broome to Perth on a 40+ degree day, in a paddy wagon type vehicle, which isn't air-conditioned or supplied with enough drinking water and is found dead in arrival in Perth. These 3 natural deaths aren't equivalent.

Once again, where is your data set that confirms your claim?

I get massive ‘I’m not a racist, I have black friends’ vibes from this response.
Just watched the sport report and it shows Shaun Burgoyne saying he never heard of anything like what has been said while he was there so as far as I am concerned jumping and thinking someone is racist is now the woke narrative.

I seem to recall there was this camp thingy a few years back where senior players, coaches and officials denied anything untoward happened too.

Many are still saying they didn't see or hear anything. Until one of the Indigenous victims bravely took a public stance. And then others came forward. Only then were the allegations believed.

Thankfully this time the AFL have promptly commissioned a high level independent review into the allegations.

All being said, half the players still think it was great and where's the class action lawsuit? After all that come out is that the camp took a huge shit on a multitude of players regardless of race like Jenkins experience etc. The whole thing would have made me want to leave the club forever as soon as it began but it's not on the same level as these accusations.

So lets see if we can have a timeline explanation of how these events occur.

* Cyril Rioli refusing to comeback to the Hawks nest and criticises the club leads to them commissioning an external review of their policies towards indigenous players during the Clarkson years to find out what other issues other than Rioli, indigenous players have with the club. Story broken by Caro on 2nd April.

Edit 7 days later Caro breaks the story that Hawks CEO has met with former hawks junior player and ex Indigenous manager to discuss the problems of the past

Hawthorn’s former Indigenous manager has called on the club to face up to its historical decades-long problem with Aboriginal players and has urged the club to welcome an Indigenous director onto Jeff Kennett’s board. Leon Egan, a father figure to a long line of Indigenous players during the club’s most recent golden era, has advised club bosses after Cyril Rioli’s recollections about his time at the Hawks that they need to acknowledge Hawthorn’s divisive past in a bid to build a stronger cultural relationship with Indigenous Australians. Egan played under-19s football in 1988 with the Hawks but said he was later told by a senior Hawthorn recruiter that he would never have made the senior grade at the club because of its decision not to recruit Indigenous players. “The club needs to face up to that,” Egan said.

Hawthorn chief executive Justin Reeves confirmed he had met Egan at the club this week in a bid to get a greater understanding of the club’s Indigenous failings of the past. Of Egan’s revelations, Reeves said: “It was really hard to listen to. People are all talking and saying we need to do more, but at the moment what we are doing is listening and that’s everything to me.

Reeves and the board decided to do a review.

*Phil Egan - ex 100+ gamer for Richmond in the 1980's and early 90's, company Binmada does consulting for governments and organisations who - establishing and enacting law and policy related to indigenous affairs - was employed by Hawthorn to conduct the review. He did the interviews and wrote the review and spoke to ABC radio this morning. Listen at

*Hawthorn got the review 2 weeks ago and according to Caro, they didn't know what to do next, so they gave the report to the AFL just over a week ago. Hawk CEO in his presser says they immediately contacted AFL.

*The review was about Hawthorn finding out what their past indigenous players had experienced. It wasn't an inquiry where you get info from both sides or the argument. It was purely about indigenous players expressing their experiences as requested by Hawthorn.

*ABC's National sports reporter David Mark yesterday on ABC News breakfast program (Video embedded here) said 23 indigenous players played in the Clarkson years, but not all players spoke to the review. ( didn't say how many). He said the ABC spoke to the families of 3 of these players - ie Russell Jackson. He says the ABC put questions to the coaches involved - Clarkson, Fagan and Burt, none of them responded, they had a day or so to respond ( Tracey Holmes on The Drum said about 30 hours), he then reads out AFL statement, saying they are finalisation the steps to set up an investigation and Hawthorn's statement that says - This important work has raised disturbing historical allegations that require further investigation. Upon learning of these allegations, the club immediately engaged AFL Integrity as is appropriate.

*McLachlan's presser yesterday comes out and says they are setting up a 4 person panel, independent of AFL's disintegrity unit led by a KC, with 2 people on panel will be indigenous. 2 men and 2 women. 'Incredibly serious': AFL to probe Hawks' treatment of Indigenous players

*Brisbane statement saying Fagan and club mutually agreed that he will take a leave of absence from the Club to cooperate in the investigation.

*Hawthorn's presser yesterday basically said they knew nothing but were shocked by what was in the review and further shocked by what was said in the Russell Jackson story. They do a presser with no signs or logos, no club ties, only logo/brand is on 2 microphones and don't even have the presser on their website. Must be a bit embarrassed by it all. CEO says the Hawthorn report was always about finding out if anyone requires further support in their life after football.

"Earlier this year the Hawthorn Football Club external First Nations consultants to liaise with all current and former First Nations players and staff to learn more about their experiences at our club," he said. "This was always about finding out if anyone required any further support in their life after football. "This was really important work.

*North Melbourne statement that - Alastair was due to commence work with North Melbourne on November 1 however he will delay the start of his tenure to allow time to fully participate in the investigation. Clarkson has been working for North but he will get his 2nd half / instalment of his $900k ETP on or after 1st November, so that Hawthorn can spread out their soft cap tax penalty over 2 footy financial years.

*About 6.30pm Clarko issues his statement, saying no wrongdoing or misconduct. Obviously drafted up by a lawyer.

*Footy Classified Caro says AFL expect investigation to take between 6 and 8 weeks, McLachlan refused to put a time frame on it at his presser. McGuire says it will be a KC + a full time senior barrister who will do the grunt work. So will probably cost $300k - $600k investigation.

McGuire trying to protect his mate and old collingwood CEO Gregg Swann, out the corner of his mouth shoots out some BS that Russell Jackson sent the message to Brisbane generic email address and Fagan and Brisbane never got asked to comment. Jackson immediately denies this.

*This arvo Fagan issues a statement - "I deny, categorically, the allegations of wrongdoing by me in relation to First Nations players at the Hawthorn Football Club. and like Clarko says “I had no opportunity to, and did not, participate in any way in the review commissioned by the Hawthorn Football Club. I was not interviewed. Nor was I invited to be interviewed.
