Give Gunner the week to heal the ankle properly. Melbourne don't score so we don't need the extra dangerous goal kicker all that much. Give TOB a game or let Schoey play Gunner's role. He looked lost and unsure of his role against the dogs?

Would like to see either one of Lowden or Cegs get a game and Hale to spend the rest of the year at BHH. He's done.

Melbourne have averaged a score of 80 points in their 4 wins this season.

Hawthorn have averaged a score of 87 points in their 4 losses this season.

Even when we lose we score more than them when they win.

O'Brien isn't ready for senior football imo.
Agreed. Also don't see them playing 3 rucks (though Clarko did mention they might at some point) so surely Schoey stays if Gunston is out.

Out- Gunner (precautionary), Hale and Woodward
In- Mitch, Smith (if 100% otherwise Hartung) and Ceglar

Schoey and Spangher lucky to stay (Spang was okay today but his disposal under pressure was a bit concerning) but both could make way once Lake and Gunner return. Langford was better than Woody today and could be best 22 come finals if he plays like he did today.

Hopefully Hill, Stratton, Litherland, Schoe and Spang find form next week. Would be great to annihilate the Dees and listen to Roos whinge.

I thought Woodward was quite good today against a particularly good young midfield group and deserves to keep his spot. Worked super hard to get to a heap of contests.

Had 8 tackles (equal game high with Shiels) and 3 free kicks for and none against (an indication that his tackling wasn't sloppy and he was getting to the ball first).

Perhaps Puopolo could do with a hard earned rest instead and let Woodward gain some more confidence at AFL level against Melbourne.

Gunston definite out for this week only.

Would hurt getting stepped on the ankle. Ow

Sammy back in, probably Woody drops out, but he has shown some good things.

Hale didn't take his opportunity and Cegs will come back in.

Ceglar playing as a ruck/forward would offer way more than Schoenmakers, who is all at sea as a forward, he will only stay in the side if CLarko want or needs him in defense.

Know he played a poor game but if Gunston is out then I don't see Schoey being dropped unless they're going to play O'Brien or Lowden.

Melbourne aren't really a tall side anyway and they don't have dominant key position players (perhaps Frawley) and playing them at the MCG I would like to see us bring in an extra running player like Hartung. We could have Hale at full forward and Roughead at center half forward and pushing up the ground. The thing about Schoenmakers that I didn't partically like was the fact that he got beaten at every contest by his opponent and players just kept running rings around him and not to mention his second and third efforts were extremely poor. I reckon playing him in the VFL might not be the worst thing for us as his form right now is terrible.

Hawthorn coach Alastair Clarkson confident Jack Gunston escaped major ankle injury

HAWTHORN coach Alastair Clarkson was last night confident Jack Gunston had escaped major injury after the star forward limped off with an ankle injury against the Western Bulldogs.

Gunston had helped himself to three goals in the Hawks’ 62-point rout in Launceston, but was forced from the ground late in the fourth quarter.

The former Crow, who has kicked 44 goals this year, is expected to undergo scans today.

Gunston’s injury came after Sam Mitchell (virus) and Isaac Smith (calf) were late withdrawals yesterday, but speaking after a win that catapulted his side to the top of the AFL ladder, Clarkson wasn’t worried.

“I don’t think it’s anything significant, but if he misses a week or two, and it may sound like we’re being flippant when we say ‘so be it’, but it’s just the way you’ve got to be with the way footy is played,” Clarkson said.

With a team like Dogs he had the opportunity to show he (Schoenmakers) still got it - but performed below par at both ends. Totally agree. Time is up for a VFL recall...

As much as I want to sat "Give Burgoyne a freshen up", he really doesn't show any signs that he needs one. He's the ultimate tempo player. Doesn't go hard if he doesn't need to and doesn't exert excess energy unless he needs to. Games against teams like the Dogs, Demons, GWS and Saints sees him getting a run around while not tiring himself out.

Good game to rest Woodward and perhaps give a go to someone like a Sam Mitchell to see if he can offer anything? Not one to take Melbourne lightly, but we could also bring in that Sewell fella, I've been hearing some good things about him (though I think he's coming back from an injury?).

Need to really inflict some pain on the scoreboard this week. If we can post a decent margin, then Sydney have to play catch up for the last three weeks, percentage wise. Unless, of course, they drop this week's game against Port. Then they may as well not bother.

Pretty much all roos has done at the club was recruit some ready to go mids that could compete and then got them all to play around the footy. Genius! They average 60 points per game which is 6 points per game less than last year. They do average 40 points less against per game this year however that is largely a result of greater effort and the rubbish congested game style. The points for tells the real story - they are no better than last year.
