Game Day Hawthorn vs Port Adelaide - 2nd Preliminary Final

I'll be amazed if Port aren't the 2015 favourites when the first ball is kicked next year. A sensational year and you guys are definitely my 2nd favourite team. I'm sure that doesn't make it hurt any less right now, but you have a team, a club and a culture to be extremely proud of.

would rather get there and find out than sit back and watch the others.
Yep: I wonder if Hawks fans thought they were no chance in grand final week in 2008. It's always on the day on grand final day - anything can, and often does happen!!!!

You're going to watch the others? I have a lawn crying out for attention. :p

So much to like about this Port team. Amazing season and have a feeling you guys will only get better next yr (esp if you land Ryder like rumoured).
You have picked a winner in Hinkley, cant help but be impressed with how he goes about it. Players want to go to war for him - you cant buy that culture.
Well done on the season

Ford. Ford. For a guy that is the spitting image of Peter Hudson I couldn't have the urge to hug you more. #thisclub #TFC

We have a group hug going on the other thread. Join in. I'd happily give up one of my 150 goals in 1971 :(

just **** off jesus ******* christ have you learned a single thing about this team watching this year??? anyone any time anywhere

You can only come from behind so many times on the back of a heavy travel schedule. The players are only human. If it were a home final I would have given us a chance in the granny if we had won. Our true premiership window opens next year where we should be finishing top 4 with ease.

Think realisticly were not super human. it's likely we would have been beaten quite convincingly had we won today. It's just the way the finals system works.

On the big stage the big boys come to play. The final reminded me of essendon v hawthorn prelim some 13 years ago. Essendon had the class to hold on no matter what hawthorn threw at them. Ultimately, you can't be 5 goals down in a big final with 6 mins of playing time. Great effort at the end, however analysis of what happened after quarter time is the key, not decisions with minutes left to play. Four quarters wins footy, not bursts. Hawthorn learnt this in 2012 and were beaten.

A great final nonetheless for the ages.

KOLOKOTRONIS

Whilst it is nice to hear a poster admit their team had rub of the green, in no way did we deserve to win. I think accurate kicking for goal is a little overlooked in this day, and today Hawthorn showed why it wins games. Congratulations and kick straight again next week

Don't normally venture from the Bay or SFA, but had to come on here and express my commiserations to your team tonight.
You were clearly our equal tonight and with maybe a touch more poise would be looking forward to next week.

Congratulations on a great game tonight, I know you'd all be shattered, you should be coz your mob deserved to be there tonight and came so bloody close to winning, and would have been a deserved one at that.

Bad luck, and I look forward to squaring off again next year.

Well, the team gave it everything, and it was almost enough

They showed they will never, ever give up. We earned everyone's respect

How exciting was that last run on! They are so good.

Yeah kicking and umpiring, but I have two choices. Be bitter and sulk, or just appreciate all they did and let the players be sad and sorry for me.

Ryder, redden, players a year older, more games on the mcg

The AFL and tv channels will be lining up to have us on Friday nights and prime time.

Time to come top 2, and get home finals and the week off

Well done everyone, what a journey it was!

Time to lay off the kool aid b0ydy.

Hawthorn didn't go into the grandfinal on the back of 2 physical away finals.

I know I'm going to get blasted here but I'm just thinking realisticly.

you need port adelaide football re-education from Janus

this defeatist mentality shits me, this team would have gotten nowhere if it shared your mentality.

First time poster here, but looong time reader....

Today was both amazing and disappointing. I've mostly lived in Melbourne since 2003 and walking around the city today I saw more Port supporters than I've ever seen in Melbourne before - even more than back in 2004. The walk to the G was great, sitting behind the cheer squad and hearing the noise we were making was great, and having a team that finally plays Port Adelaide football is so exciting. My mum (essendon supporter) even messaged me after the game and said she wanted to start going for Port. So proud of everyone involved in the club! But so disappointed too! We smashed them all over the joint in the first quarter apart from the score board. And boy did I get excited when we started coming in those last 10 minutes! I'm hoping that this loss burns in the boys hearts, and next year we see an even more ferocious Port with at least another big forward, some more muscle on some of our skin and bones boys, and a top 2 finish. Today may be over, but at least we have another Grand Final tomorrow, and a very promising future maturing before our eyes!!!

Great post, glad the club gave everything for its supporters today. Ask your mum to bring Paddy Ryder with her. :p

I'm not saying I'm glad we didn't make make it I ****ing wish we did. We could have given it a crack, but all I'm saying is I believe it would have been near on impossible for us to win it.

Hey: you may very well be right - we'll never know now. But all I know is that grand finals are not ordinary games. Collingwood were given no chance against the all conquering Lions in 2002, but (to use a Rex Hunt-ism) came within a bee's diaphragm of an astonishing upset. I'm sure history is littered with plenty of other examples.

It's time to emerge from the "Williams-Primus battered supporter shelter" (thanks tribey). This team is one which can match the best any time. The amount of times I have come close to counting these guys out before being proved wrong has become countless. I can't sit back and think that next week we would have been played off the park against Sydney, we would have been in it to the end, no doubt.
