Gram , 12 Disp 3 tackles = WTF
Siposs , 10 disp , 2 tackles , 2 goals - good enough for a second game.
Steven, 11 disp, 4 takles, - he's at a stage where he needs to be showing a bit more.
Jones, 16 disposals , 6 tackles, not our worst. OKish.
Mc Evoy 10 disposals , 6 tackles , 14 hitouts, hmm Roughead won the rucking.
Zac Dawson 10 disposals , 2 tackles. Lucky they didnt kick it to Buddy every time he lead.
Baker 17 disposals , 1 tackle. Is he better when he doesnt get the ball.
Schnieder at 16 disposals ,4 tackles and a goal seems fantastic compared to..
Goddard with 14 disposals and 5 tackles. ( Id be happy with it if he was Robert Eddy ).
Gilbert at 15 disposals, seemed OK at times but wev'e seen much better.
Arggghh I just cant do it anymore. there was just too much lameness.

Sorry guys and i hope this doesnt get me carded.
I was speaking with my brother (another hawks fan) at todays game and we just wondered if the high intensity, be in your spot, dont show flair gamestyle has taken its toll on this bunch of players?
You seem to have dropped further than we did in 2009

I've been calling for spuds to be dropped for kids for weeks utility.

You can't defend some of them. It's not just Raph Clarke. If it was the problem would've been solved long ago.

Bringing in Polo before Alias??? Whoever had that idea should be sacked. :(

We have been struggling in clearances, and he was killing clearances at Sandy. Good reason to give him a crack.

Re Dempster, people taking their frustrations out on him are simply doing it out of reflex. He has been very good this year. He's quicker than a lot of players, plays tall and gives his all. He stays.

I don't understand the Dempster hate. It's as if people are saying 'Saints are playing bad, therefore Dempster should be dropped'.

There'd be 10-15 people behind Dempster on today's performance.

Listened to the game on the wireless so my observations may be skewiff. I just wondered why we used our sub so early when we should have capitalised on the Hawks injuries with our rotations, was McQualter that disgusting?

polo deserves another shot.

he was merely an insurance plan anyway ala pattison last year. what were we gonna get for pick we drafted him for anyway?

sippos, if only we had him last year. developing nicely. had two goal assists in the first qtr.

couldnt agree more with the call on steven.

roo looks down on confidence and uninterested. i think we need a clean break next year and a change of captain. the thing is i dont think BJ is captain material. he doesnt need more weight on his shoulders.

i wondered the exact same thing. he was completely gone in the 2nd. i am thinking they wanted more run in the 2nd in our fwd line so they put cripps in.

Lol. I didn't even know
mcq was playing til the sub came up on the board.

As I said earlier we were plain lazy all day. Time to stick fat guys cause it's gonna get worse til it gets better in say 5 years. We're 2005 Adelaide, 2004 pies etc right now.

Before going over board on the rubbishing pay some of these guys the respect they've earned over the past few yrs as I don't think they'll turn it around due to age or mental scars. Shame we didn't get a flag but it was a good period nonetheless.

I'm not against Polo getting another go but he would want to show more than he did today.

He might be a clearance specialist in the VFL but he went missing when Sewell, Mitchell and co were winning the hard ball. Armitage was great early but he can't do it all on his own.

No secret we are missing Lenny but we need to find some other tough hard bodies in the middle to help win clearances. Someone like Gilbo on the ball would help, we can cover him down back and he gives us some presence and hardness on the ball. Geary would help too.

Not sure why Steven hasn't been given a permanent run on the ball either, he is a little terrier but at the moment he seems to be confused as to whether he is a mid or forward and doing neither role well.

Matthew Knights on the ABC made a good point about Riewoldt, he said he is trying to do too much and exhuasting himself.

He's trying to play FF, CHF, midfield, CHB, FB and doing none that well, he just needs to settle in his best position and win it. Same goes for Goddard.

Riewoldt should be CHF floating between midfield and FF. Goddard should be midfield and floating between CHB and CHF. They are all over the shop at the moment and having zero influence.

Roo was getting murdered inside 50 in earlier games. Thats why he's been playing more up the ground. Had to do something, and lets him stretch his wings so I think its good he's playing further and its definatley not our biggest problem.

Im not liking all the ZAC DAWSON hate going on. He played well for part of the game but then got slaughtered because he was playing on the best forward in the comp and the ball was flying inside 50 at a million miles an hour every 10 seconds. So give him a break, I thought he was admirable condidering how the game was played.

Also I want to Applaude Ross Lyon for being so forward and honest and realistic with his comments in the press conference. He said it exactly how it was. I am so sure about this coach, he will lead this club into a great era given the chance.

I agree, Polo looked lost today most of the time, i had good hopes for him after last weeks game for Sandy.
The problem is, theres not much other midfield talent there to choose from. I do see the argument that Smith should play instead but you should have seen Polos game last week.
I think Ledger and Curren might be a chance to play midfield instead. But it really gets thin after them.

Heard this too and he's right. Roo is giving his all.

We've gotta remember we're playin a lot of kids at the moment, and whilst we're happy with their progress they're not impacting
the game hugely as yet.

As soon as Dawson went off with the blood rule, Buddy took a mark on Fisher, who is a great player but cannot play shutdown full back. Dawson probably in our better half of players yesterday.

The McQualter thing baffled me, because Hawthorn were using their smallness (and subsequent quickness) to advantage. I would have taken Kosi off and tried to give Ben a rest in the ruck with someone smaller. Again, it's useful to have Jason Blake in the side.

But, in reality, if the season is over, then there is little practical use for playing Blake other than very few footballers deserve to have played 200 games more than that bloke.

We cannot be against dropping younger blokes because that is what happens to everyone. Ask Ricky Ponting, Matthew Hayden, Justin Langer and Damien Martyn. Time for Jack Steven to get a few touches in the reserves and come back better.

Apparently Lynch and Heyne were good for Sandy on the weekend. It would be nice to see what a forward line with Siposs and Heyne, both medium sized forwards, would look like.

Dawson has been pretty good on Buddy in the past but he was back to his old 'space cadet' ways today. All the good work from Fisher or Gwilt doesn't matter if your full back can't keep up his end of the bargain.

Did you see some of the goals that Franklin kicked? A snap on the non-preferred in traffic, a 55m kick from the boundary, and then a 60m kick from even tighter on the boundary.

He was the F50 target 16 times - and this doesn't include his long bombs from outside 50.

60 inside 50s to 31 has nothing to do with Zac.

a complete lack of effort or the fact he didnt win one clearance? oh wait no, ross likes mature players, so lets play polo

2 clearances. 5 times got the first possession.

But didn't lay an effective tackle to offset a low possession count.

I also saw him way out on a lead several times but didnt get the kick his way.
I just think Dawson is not the right type of player to have on him. Maybe we should play Josh Gibson on him.... doh he's one of theirs.:D
Seriously I think someone athletic needs to run with him.

Agree totally with Ross Lyon's comments after the game. It was one of the most disappointing times for St Kilda, certainly since he took over in 07. I applaud his honesty and assessment of the game and team. I haven't felt that embarrassed for my side in a long time. Ross must have felt the same, you could tell by the tone of his voice. However, we the faithful, will continue to stick fat always.

We may have dominated the scoreboard in the first quarter but it was Hawthorn's loose defence that allowed us to score a few easy ones over the top. We did win the contested ball for the quarter though which is why it is so disappointing we couldnt carry on with that.

Couple of thoughts....

-Dean Polo was good early I thought, involved himself in the play and kicked a good goal. Did drop off badly like 20 other blokes but will probably get another crack next week considering David Armitage is a chance to be looked at by the MRP.

-Justin Koschitzke would have to be close to the chop. I love the big boy but I thought he struggled yesterday. That dropped regulation, uncontested mark, when we were 3 points up in the 3rd and resulted in a Hawks go just cost us so bad. I was sitting right in front of it and I just buried the head in the hands. Dan Archer was good all pre- season, give him another chance.

- Chop some of the deadwood. Steve Baker (who has been a great warrior) should get a few weeks suspension being the bad boy he is and not sure how many chances Andrew McQualter gets at selection. Nick Heyne should get a chance in that role perhaps or Nick Winmar. Not sure about the heat on Sean Dempster, he was one of our better players yestrerday and has been solid again this whole season.

- Exciting watching Arryn Siposs get onto a few touches and goals, getting a good following already! And Jamie Cripps was in good form after being subbed on. Keep giving these blokes chances and they will develop into something special. I called it last week, but Jack Steven needs a run back in the 2's. Got a big future this kid but is just looking a little lost at the moment.

It doesn't seem to bother other clubs with Riewoldt - they just switch players when he works further out.

Ross mentioned that the senior players did a lousy job in organising stuff on the fly - "don't wait for the little green man to come out".
