Definitely a few years late to get this extended midfield time.
Same draft as Petracca and De Goey. Petracca moved midfield in 2020 and immediately took over. De Goey was mid way through 2021. So a bit of a delay in getting him in there but making up for lost time.
Heeney is a better forward than the others so you can understand the reasoning for keeping him there. Won an All Australian selection in 2022. Having much more influence in the middle this year and another All Australian will probably be the least of this seasons accolades.
He'll win the Brownlow this year and possibly at least one of the other big awards.
His career is sort of playing out how Ablett Junior's would have if he stayed a forward until 2010/2011ish. And when he was a kid he did remind me a bit of younger Gaz.

No doubt he's a sensation. A marketer's dream, the looks, the teeth, the gloss, the ability, and pergormances.

The umpires will mysteriously overlook his games after he was reported and fail to give him a single vote. To make it seem less like the AFL robbed him and handing it to the chosen one Naicos.

He doesn’t care. He threw the coaches award away to rest himself. He’s only focused on the flag (and NS) which is good.
At 28 and his 10th season he's finally had the year I envisaged many years ago. Better late than never, I suppose.
Outstanding impact player. Takes marks, kicks goals at crucial times with play that has mortals shaking their heads in admiration. Most adoring feature is that he is not an accumulator through cheap give and gets.

IF.....if he does win a Norm Smith....thats a very prestigious award as well. So is the Gary Ayres Award (Player of Finals)....if he were to win that as well.
Not everything revolves around Brownlow medals and neither should it.
