Hill Bros: Stephen Signed/Bradley wants out

She can't be that thick.

Her job description would be to produce filler content in the half-time break during the coverage of a football game being simultaneously broadcast to a larger audience on free to air TV. Its giving the audience what they want to hear - like trade week radio does.

I think this had an impact on Brad’s game on the weekend. Why bring this up mid season? It puts an element of doubt into the team and its supporters - feeling like Neale all over again.

When we play Hawthorn in a few weeks time, do you then watch B Hill and question his loyalty?

Maybe they could send us the Dongara boy?

Brad Hill was fantastic on the weekend with 31 touches, and he would know exactly what is going on so no doubts in his mind. You are right about it putting doubt in supporters' minds, but only the ones who are prepared to believe the rumours and half-truths spread by the footy media.

As far as AFL "news" and opinion I believe half of what I see and none of what I hear. If it turns out that I have not believed a rumour that was true it's no skin off my nose anyway.

I think some of us thought Neale would never leave

Neroli is a big Freo fan, anything she does that is seemingly negative is just to deflect that. It doesn't matter whether she is a journalist/presenter/host/camerawoman she is in the public media.

S.Hill's history recently with soft tissue injuries is alarming and I don't think he will ever return to normal. IF Gold Coast are into offering him a contract obviously he would get more coin than we'd be ponying up AND we'd get decent compensation. Nostalgia in list management isn't going to get us far.

It's all about Coniglio.

It's not that inconceivable, tbh.

We never thought Neale would go, the flog Carr brother?

Particularly if SHilly takes the godfather offer, what incentive would Bradley have to stay.

Not suggesting it's a fait accompli, but you can bet it'll probably bob up again this offseason.

Why on earth would GCS be interested in SHill, that's what I don't get. He's older, injury prone, doesn't particularly scream leadership for a group of young talent, and is more cream on the top kind of player rather than the kind of player you (re)build a club around. I can see why clubs challenging would be interested but Gold Coast just seems weird?!

I agree with those comments. I’m a bit whatevs on this. Best option is that he gets on top of his leg injuries and plays a late run of games this season and a 2-year extension with Freo. Alternatively a 3 year contract on $700,000 each year with GCS will net at least an end of year First round pick (pick 19). It does appear as though he will have ongoing issues for remainder of his career. Since end of last season quad issues, then surgery to the quad, then complications with recovery, then calf, further quad issues and now hamstring.

Surely Shilly's management behind it all. Coming into a contract year with an LTI and close to 30 they'd be working hard to get him a long term contract so.......leak or make up an offer from the gold coast and use the prospect of his currently high performing brother returning to victoria as leverage

I don't think you get much from S Hill combo because of his age, his salary most probably 150- 200k less that what Weller recently get from GC too. His recent injuries also do him and Fremantle no favour.

Stephen Hill is an elite, experienced talent. If he were fully fit the last two years he would be running at above 90% availability but since he didn't he also doesn't come with the big price tag. All they need to do is gamble on years.

They could get him across next season, spend the entire year building him up and then he plays all of 2021 to 2024 and wins them games with his line breaking and kicking from half back to half forward.

The last time I looked at it Stephen Hill had a better turn up rate than Nathan Fyfe, but that was before the start of the season.

Long story short, he is absolutely worth the risk for a club that has lost the million dollar contracts of Ablett and Lynch. Whether the AFL see paying Hill $1,500,000 in the first season and then $250,000 for the next two years as end of first or first round compensation will be interesting. They allegedly work it out by average over years, but there is too much wiggle room.

And the introverted, family orientated, club loving, soon to be married to a local girl, Dockers player is going to enjoy relocating to the Gold Coast because.....?
Not coming to GC, agent just want to push his price up and negotiate longer contract with Fremantle , pretty normal.

2 years on reduced money.
I'd be tempted to get him out to pasture now. Give him 9 weeks of rest more than the rest of the team, then start him on a slow build.

I don't even know why Brad Hill is on the equation. He's got 2 years on a contract left. we hold him to that while offering him more next year.
looking at this squad's development it's not out of the question we are in the mix for a premiership while he's in contract.

What their need to start pushing out babies is so great they can't wait 2 years? He is so introverted he would pass up 1.5 million plus? If we only offer 1 year and GC 3 he would be mad not to take it. If they don't like it he can always retire, and he'd be no worse off.

For the record I think he will stay, with his recent injury record I don't believe anyone is going to offer him a signifcant premium on what we will.

Lachie Neale is from South Australia, could have demanded his own contract and was a future captain here, and he married a girl from the southern suburbs of Perth. Who owns a hairdressing salon. And they go to Brisbane.

How's his mother in law?

Without getting into the kryptic guessing game.

When young couples first get married getting away can be a blessing establish their own identity away from overbearing parents etc. Yes when babies come along extra help is always appreciated (see Tim Kelly).

I think Neale genuinely wanted out of the WA fishbowl - there may have been another reason or two but nothing major.

With regards to Stephen Hill if he can’t get past his injury issues and a end of season medical isn’t favourable he may only get a 1-year offer from the club. Makes sense for his agent to fish around and get a longer term contract for job security. If he is getting the reported near on 2.1M for 3-years we won’t be left high and dry without compensation. In fact prob an end of 1st round pick (ie between the compensation received for Frawley/Daisy and Motlop/Mayne).

He is 29 and a salary of around $650-$700K per year on average is around $200K per year more than Chris Mayne (yes - one year less contract) but I can’t see it being less than 2nd round pick (ie immediately following our second pick) but definitely a possibility for end of 1st round pick, so we’re looking at approx pick 19/20 or pick 28/29 for e.g.
