Toast How can this Melbourne side be stopped?

I think a team that has a good defence that rebounds and attacks from the back half could trouble them next year if they have some injury challenges. Whoever wants to step up and contend needs to counter their defence with an equally good one and a deeper midfield which can get them on second rotations. If we have no injuries like them we might be able to take it up to them but I see Melbourne as now too young and too strong.

I think stopping them piling on 3 goals in 40 seconds is a start
Yep. That was where the game was won and lost

Dogs were too attacking in the centre and should have had a defensive side centre player to stop the Oliver & Petracca overlap

The hypothetical side that stops us will be one that is able to sustainably fire balls inside their forward 50 with pace and bring it to ground and score while simultaneously preventing us from having any bursts across four quarters from centre clearance or forward turnovers where we seize it. That’s the solution. You’re right that probably the way to do this is to attack from the back half, and set up to win the ball back, control through the middle of the ground and then fire.

Or hope that it rains in finals and turn it into a scrap.

That is pretty pathetic but i doubt you see it that way.
This was a troll thread created by an arrogant Western Bulldogs supporter who wanted to hang shit on Melbourne after they had their first loss of the season. They even made the effort to bump this thread after another loss later in the year.

But then what happened? You got your Dunkley, Treloloar, Stef Martin back, fell out of the Top 4, were gifted a prelim win against a better team and in the space of 30 minutes the Melbourne Demons absolutely annihilated and embarrassed you weak pricks.

That was a pitiful performance and an incredible capitulation from the Dogs. And wondrous from the Dees.
EAD.

Will forever be grateful to Bevo for overrating his midfield and not even bothering to change the centre square positioning in the third quarter to put in a sweeper. Weird that they didn’t even think to throw the all conquering Dunkley in there.

Ever heard of being humble in victory?

... To be fair though, that nineteen point lead they busted a gut for was gone in about 60 seconds :)

I'm not sure there's ever been a more violent, soul destroying demonstration of ownership in a game, let alone a grand final.

I honestly hope the doggies players can recover.

Sure.

You might want to explain the concept to a few Doggies fans though
Tbf they all did become really humble after they got blown away in the Grand Final

Or is that called being humbled?

One or the other

It's worth noting that not only had Footscray not allowed the opposition to reach 100 points in a single game this year, the last time it happened was round 6 in 2020. The Dogs hadn't allowed the opposition to score 100 points in 37 straight matches.

Yet in their biggest game in 5 years the Dees scored 16.4 100 in 1.5 quarters of footy on their way to 140 points.

One of the great grand final victories and capitulations. One for the historians.

2019 says hello.
The Giants kicked 3 goals and their lowest ever club score.

I don’t know what it takes to beat Dees but clearly being the greatest and most highly skilled midfield ever assembled means absolutely nothing if you’re full of mentally weak blouses as well.

I mean Bontempelloli, what happened there. Explain it to me. Went from Norm Smith certainty with his third goal to not even registering a vote. Absolutely irrelevant when the heat gets turned up a little and the grand final was no exception.

The end of the season seems to have slowed the Mighty Dees a tad!

God invented the great Premiership Hangover. It can come any time. Who knows.
