How do the eagles stop Lloyd?

Comes down to the three Ds, I guess

Delivery- Lloyd's one player, and he relies on the midfield. With Cox and Seaby in the ruck and onballers, we need to smash the bombers at every stoppage and prevent him from getting opportunities.

Drop Back- I'd start Wirrpunda on the defensive side of the wing, and give him one assignment for the game- crumb the ball off the HBF, and whenever it looks like coming in long to Lloyd, Wirrpunda needs to get in front and cut it off, a role he tends to play well.

Darren Glass- Is one of the most underrated FBs going around, and probably the best option we've had to throw at Lloyd for about 2-3 years since McIntosh wasn't a cripple. (Actually, the third D could be 'DO NOT SELECT TRENT CARROLL) Glassy has taken some big scalps this year, most noteably Neitz, and I'm looking forward to seeing how he goes on the toughest FB assignment in the game atm.

The otherside of the ground sheedy will put dustin fletcher back on phil matera so the eagles will need other guys to step up or bring the ball in low to matera.

If he does do that, who would go on McDougall and Seaby??? They have both been playing well the past few weeks and if essendon want fletcher on matera who will match up on them

Well we'll beat ya then!!! :D

In all seriousness, it should be a cracker of a match!

Yep, 12 for certain, with Nicoski gone with the shoulder injury.

Under 23
Butler-19
Judd- 20
Sampi- 20
Seaby- 20
Kerr-21
McDougall-21
Hansen- 21
Lynch- 21
Cox- 22
Glass- 23
Hunter- 23
Adkins-23

The rest of our likely side, Cousins, Wirrpunda, Fletcher, Morrison, Braun, R. Jones and Wooden are in the 24-26 category, and Matera, Banfield being the only more elderly player.

The probable ins this week would be one of Chick (veteran) Jones (rookie) or Waters (rookie).

Interested to see Essendon's likely age breakdown?

i thought Chicky would probably be another week off. Hope he does play though

BTW Butler's 18 not 19

Pretty easy answer to the question, Darren Glass will get the job. He's been in great form recently, a much improved player and if you don't know that chances are your like 90% of the posters on this site. For gods sake, Wirrpunda? Jeez, makes you realise that the majority here don't have the slightest clue what they are on about.

I'm willing to back in Glass to do the job.

Essendon are possibly going to have (Most of):

Bradley - 18
Dyson - 18
Stanton - 18
Richards - 20
Hunt - 21
Bullen - 21
Lovett-Murray - 21
Welsh - 21
Alvey - 23
Solomon - 23
McVeigh - 23
Ramanauskas (100th game) - 23

From there, a mix of 25-26 year olds (e.g. Jason Johnson, Mark Johnson, Peverill, Lloyd) and players like Fletcher (coming straight back in), Mercuri and Misiti (all around the 27-30) and Sheedy springing surprises as well and it evens out.

he was on fire last week and with the eagles no name backline he could have a field day. darren glass has been in the best form of his (limited) career in the last couple of weeks and will probably get first shot at him. personally i don't think it will be enough.

anyone got any thoughts on this one?

lloyd is one of those players who are simply 'too good'. if he doesn't mark it, he'll get a free. he has awesome accuracy. you can't just stop him. the emphasis must be on stopping the supply. the essendon midfield is slow and can be beaten and this is where the eagles can/should win.

in other words, to stop lloyd keep the bloody ball away from him.

I think Glass will be able to do a reasonable job on him. Has been in the best form of his career.

But as most have said, if we cut the supply to him (which we should be more than capable of doing) than he's not gonna be able to create much damage anyway.

I go for essendon and wouldn't disagree with the statement at all. We are full of injuries and the ball will never get to lloyd so they could put wirrpunda on him and he wouldn't get a touch
