How do you beat Collingwood?

Hawks game plan was soundly beaten. That plan relies on being a perfect kick for 10 kicks in a row in high pressure situations. No team can do it especially in the finals.
Actually it relies on 4 or 5 kicks to be spot on, over 30m on angles up the ground, if we spot up targets and move it quick it will punch holes in the pies defence. Thats the basis behind it all, Our problem last time was we took to long to move it, didnt execute the skills properly and our decision making was poor, The more we do it however the better we get at it, who's to suggest if we play the pies in the finals we havent perfected it by than and we hit them from all sides with it?, There hasnt been much of that gameplan in the 2nd half of the year, the focus has been more on the press which is one of the best in the comp, the blues got strangled to death by it in the 1st half last friday night, we went to a 1 on 1 game style in the 2nd half which suggests we were only showing bits and pieces ahead for the cats and pies. We use the kick to a lead gameplan more so for tempo footy, stop momentum and gain control again type of thing.

i don't think there's anything outlandish in the confidence pies fans are exuding in this thread or elsewhere. the pies are the best team in the comp by some stretch. all being even they will win the flag pretty comfortably this year. but in saying that, we all know that anything can happen on any given day as recent history proves only too clearly. i certainly acknowledge that something could go wrong with coll on either prelim of GF day that might result in them not winning the flag. but i don't think there's a team in it that will close to the pies in a big final on their merits

Whilst the Pies have by far the best structure, and greatest depth, they're still vulnerable to x-factor talent. Geelong would still have a bit (but it's ageing), but if the Hawks can keep their calm and not turn the ball over, and win their share of the clearances, our star players are clearly superior, and have proven time and again they can bust open any team, including the Pies.

In two years you've only beaten us in a dead rubber, which we still would have won if Beams kicked straight on the siren.. every other time we've cleaned your clock

No use talking about games you won before our list matured.. we've smashed you ever since

Edited for accuracy.

And no use talking about games you won before our list matured/when more than half our best 22 was out.

Cloke is still no superstar, our midfield is still superior to yours. If we click, we'll beat you. If not, you'll win. Pretty simple.

Ha ha. Isn't that the act of crossing your fingers very quickly? :p

This year at different times a Collingwood player has been touted by the media as the best player in the game

First it was Pendlebury.. then Swan.. then Thomas.. then Cloke

We have our fair share of stars and we don't whine about injuries when 7 or 8 premiership players have been missing most weeks this year

Oh and Cloke this season has taken more contested marks than any other player on record ;)

Firstly, most of the footy media is full of shit. To have Cloke called the best player in the game is evidence of same.

As for the injuries - like I stated, you guys have great depth, but missing some foot soldiers is a lot different to missing for example Pendlebury, Jolly, Swan, Cloke, Reid, all in the same game.

You don't have that many players who are that quality

Oh dear what a damning admission :D

You just admitted that you need everything to go right to win, good luck with that sunshine all we need to win is to play to our structures.

There's no questioning Collingwood's favouritism. What I'm questioning is the tenor of this [STRIKE]circle jerk[/STRIKE] thread that the only way Collingwood will lose is by defeating themselves.

Fact is they are a formidable champion team - but they are a team lean on champions. The explosive power of Buddy, Cyril, Hodge, with the midfield hardnuts and deadly left foots coming out of defence, mean even at your best you can be convincingly bested.

RUBBISH!

Hawks are a great team, but my goodness, Collingwood lean on champions? This year we're confidently looking at six All-Australians (Pendles, Thomas, Cloke, Swan, Davis, Reid). You're confidently looking at two (Buddy and Mitchell) and hoping for Gibson.

We're both individually and collectively excellent, and it's a bright time to support Collingwood. It's a tad dimmer at Hawthorn

Really.. because we've kinda kicked the shit out of you except in one dead rubber

I can't believe you're digging up Leon Davis as a champion, it seems some supporters never learn.

Pendles is a champion, Thomas and Cloke are solid performers, but nothing mercurial, Swan is the best receiver in the game, no doubt, and Reid is a great defender.

What I'm talking about is a tense game, deadlocked (as it no doubt would be in the first one or two quarters of a GF), whose players are more capable of doing something brilliant? Yours are by far the better team operators, but they can't pull tricks out their arse like ours.

Collingwood are lean on media darlings. no shortage of champions as theAA side will no doubt show.
