How much would you pay Josh Jenkins?

But but but, Joe the Goose! Anybody can stand in the goal square and get on the end of handballs!

Josh Jenkins is not Joe the Goose. Yes, he's kicked many of his goals from the goal square and, thus, appears to be the happy ending of the team play. But, on most occasions, Josh works extremely hard to get into that position. He's deceptively fast for a big man; reads the play well and works very very hard. Look at the tapes.

This not an argument to say that he should be paid megabucks. Nobody should be. The team should fly as one and share the spoils for team effort in an fair and equal fashion. Over the last decade, Hawthorn superstars took pay cuts in order for that team to stay together in a winning combination. And they rewarded themselves with grand finals.

Adelaide is on the edge of something at the moment that could deliver all the rewards the game contains. Josh realises that. He isn't dumb, or greedy, and nor is he confused by short-term goals. He's perfectly entitled to spend as much time as he needs to work out his future.

... There are bigger issues at play here too. Firstly, Adelaide has an image problem and is largely considered a shit-hole by the rest of the country. Secondly, the club still insists on drafting kids from interstate though they have recently changed their stance on this a bit. These are both way bigger issues than how much of a nice guy Pyke ends up being.

You are out of date, Mr Moogle. Adelaide had an image problem at West Lakes which was, upon reflection, a shit-hole of a venue – a suburban drag. But, if you talk to any of the interstate visitors to Adelaide Oval for Adelaide or Port games, they say that the footy experience at that venue is absolutely sensational.

The sheer buzz of it... whether their team has won or lost. They now talk about Adelaide Oval as I once felt the first few times I went to the MCG.

As far as your comment about Adelaide insisting on drafting (or recruiting) kids from interstate, thank god for that.

That policy has given us:

Rory Atkins (Vic), Eddie Betts (Vic), Charlie Cameron (WA), Kyle Cheney (Vic), Brad Crouch (Vic), Matt Crouch (Vic), Harry Dear (Vic), Tom Doedee (Vic), Richard Douglas (Vic), Hugh Greenwood (Tas), Curtly Hampton (NT), Kyle Hartigan (Vic), Ricky Henderson (Vic), Paul Hunter (NSW), Josh Jenkins (Vic), Alex Keath (VIc), Jake Kelly (Vic), Jake Lever (Vic), Luke Lowden (Vic), Tom Lynch (Vic), Jarroyd Lyons (Vic), David Mackay (Vic) Mitch McGovern (WA), Reilly O'Brien (Vic), Andy Otten (Vic), Paul Seedsman (Vic), Sam Shaw (Vic), Rory Sloane (Vic), Daniel Talia (Vic), Nathan van Berlo (WA), Talyor Walker (NSW),

That's 31 out our 46-strong squad. Here are our South Australian natives:

Jonathon Beech, Luke Brown, Cam Ellis-Yomen, Dean Gore, Mitch Grigg, Sam Jacobs, Matthew Jaensch, Riley Knight, Rory Laird, Troy Menzel, Wayne Milera, Keenan Ramsay, Brodie Smith, Scott Thompson and Hanson Wigg.

We will notice, Mr Moogle, that out of the fifteen SA players recruited or traded into the current Adelaide squad, only ten of them have made their way into the team.

Selection criteria has very little to do with state of origin in the national comp for every club, given the nature of the draft. At the very least, it may be a deciding factor in a choice between like vs like. Recruiting locals eliminates the Go Home Factor but that's about all.

When you say that Adelaide insisting upon recruiting interstate kids is a big issue, you completely lose me. The fact is that it's a national draft which means that the eight clubs outside of Victoria will always recruit more players from outside of their state, than locals... if they want to recruit the best available talent at any one moment.

That's the simple maths of the draft. There are 16 other clubs cherry-picking quality South Australian players. You wrote, Mr Moogle, as if Adelaide or Port, for that matter, has choice about signing up SA talent. Outside of the trades, they have no more opportunity than any of the other sixteen clubs.

Just on your post JohnK I would put Eddie in The SA/WA camp. Originally from Kalgoorlie ( which is why there was a strong presence at Subiaco). He lived in Port Lincoln as well. Then headed for Victoria . Guess just like the footballer he is hard to classify ;)

Born in Port Lincoln, moved to Kalgoorlie when his parent's split up, and then sent to boarding school in Victoria as a teenager, which is where he was drafted onto the rookie list at Carlton from.

Welcome back jk! :)

Why would a player manager all of a sudden step out of the most important and legally binding part of the process? They're still there to make sure JJ doesn't accidentally sign his life away.
exactly, of course he will be there. not in any of the pictures and stuff but will be in the room
