If he leaves Carlton for GWS?

Ablett was largely seen as a "Judas" midseason for chasing the coin but this feeling has since regressed owing to his fractured r/l with Thompson & giving it his absolute all.

Judd has copped a bit of abuse for choosing Carlton owing to the Visy factor & related financial benefits.

If Murphy leaves Carlton for cash, how will be perceived by Carlton & neutral supporters alike?

The difference is that Murphy would leave before he had really achieved anything at Carlton or helped Carlton reach any sort of success. Of course, he isn't the player Ablett or Judd is, so I don't believe there will be as much attention paid to him as there was with Ablett.

GWS really need to try and land someone bigger.

Most, if not all, players who have signed with GC either had issues with their old club and/or had already won a flag & been a decent servant looking for fresh opportunities.
No doubt the coin was the main factor but the decision was made easier by other events.

Unless Murphy had a falling out, and given where Carlton are at, it wouldn't look great.

If Murphy leaves to go to GWS for money, will Big Footy posters still cling to their Carlton, Visy, brown paper bag obsessions?

I fully expect an avalanche of BROWN PAPER BAG howls if Murphy re-signs at the Blues.

But if he heads to GWS i can also envisage wave after wave of BF posters letting go of their hatred/jealousy of the Blues and welcoming them back into the bosom of law abiding, ethical AFL Clubs.

Oh it just warms your heart thinking about it.

For all the crap Judd gets, it's clear that he moved back home to Melbourne to be closer to his family. Not his fault that he's a quality player and was able to shop himself to which ever melbourne-based club he chose.

Judd's critera were, in order:

1. Move back to Melbourne
2. Money

If Murphy left for GWS, it's quite clear his critera would be

1. Money
2. Nothing else

Judd would have made just as much at West Coast if not more, then what he is making at Carlton. I'm sure money played a part in his choice of Melbourne club but I don't believe it's the reason he walked out on the Eagles.

Murphy leaving solely for coin would no doubt leave a sour feeling but I think people better get used to it because good players are going to walk for money more often with introduction of free agency. It's not as big a dog act anymore as what it would have been in the past. I hope he stays but I wouldn't hold it against him if he walked for a huge pay cheque, if in the same situation I'd find it pretty hard to knock back huge money either.
