we know whatever time he schedules the presser for, he will rudely rock up 20 minutes late.
Used to be he'd allow just enough time for the news headlines.

Now he's just being a grandstanding twat!

No excused today. 10.15 is free of news and we're sick of this unnecessary lockdown. Throw us a ****ing bone and remove the outdoor masks immediately!

I can see the street from my window and I reckon 1% of people have been wearing masks the last 5 days. (in a semi-rural area). We need to open up restaurants/cafes and offices.

I can only assume that this morning's 8am meeting is trying to work out the best possible spin as to why we can't revert back to last Friday's settings!
He's wedged himself this time. I doubt he CAN extend it in current form.
More likely they've been trying to figure out a palatable compromise to backpeddle.....one that makes him look responsible, doesnt contradicted himself too much, yet amazingly compassionate at the same time.

He was so damn sure it would be seen as a heroic and absolutely necessary decision ...and expected a slap on the back. Gosh, thanks for saving my life Dan.

He wont be in such a hurry to repeat this political stunt and phuk with peoples lives next time.

So lets cue the next phase...the cute "you should be thanking me " lines that can include....

" This is a fantastic result for all Victorians "
" I make no apology for doing our best to keep all Victorians safe "
" We took the decision to not risk the lives of all Victorians "
" I cannot thank the community enough for coming forward to be tested in a time of crisis "
" We are all in this together, and Victorians came together as one to avoid a crisis"
" Our amazing team needs to be congratulated for their tireless work "
" Can i just say once again, thank you..."
etc

In a few days time make the well constructed diversion the entire narrative....how to look like a leader.
" its obvious that something must be done about moving hotel quarantine out of our cities....i will be having discussions with all premiers and govts in the ensuing days"

Dont even respond to talk about it being a basic phukkup, followed by unnecessary lockdown and ridiculous fear mongering

Upshot. He knows he needs to backoff, and will drop the majority of lockdown for the state tomorrow but keep some restrictions in the small areas actually affected.

Make sure you wear a happy smile like its all fantastic news, and you are so grateful.

I'm not 100% sure I follow the logic. You think Dan decided to implement this lockdown to "save his own arse"?

He and the people advising him are going to be the ones responsible if an outbreak got out of hand because they didn't go hard enough. In hindsight they went too hard, but I think most people agree we have to err on the side of caution. A handful of 5 day lockdowns is a lot better than another 3-month lockdown.
It was excessively cautious. The only ones to have tested positive were close contacts; as was case for other uk strain episodes in Australia. Whatever the uk experience with the strain, I suggest a lot of their poor outcomes with containment have to do with multiple uk specific factors (overwhelmed contact tracing, winter, crowding, and perhaps less adherence to social distancing) and that we in Australia should be treating it similar to “standard covid” in the Australian setting.

FFS, someone need to teach him how to communicate. Get to the point! No one cares about your mother hood statements, tell us what the changes are, and then do all your BS.

Its not about you Andrews, you lasted 3 mins in this house before being turned off.

My understanding is that Australian policy is going to still quarantine vaccinated travelers. So a facility will still be needed.

They interviewed the CEO of Avalon Airport on ABC News24 this morning and he expects we'll still be quarantining people for at least a couple of years.

I reckon that's right but that's something we're learning as we go. When the original lockdowns in Queensland and Perth were announced, they were going off what happened in the UK and it was fair to be fearful of that strain.

Victoria had that but also kind of gets locked in to a model (snap shutdown) by what other states have done. You could make a case that we could have followed NSW's lead but, as far as we know, the NSW outbreak wasn't the UK strain. In that light, you can understand the decisions they've made.

Going forward, they may consider alternatives.

He's late! Are you all triggered yet?
it's the principle, it's rubbish behaviour.

have we all got 10 minutes to spare and wait for him? absolutely we do. is it the end of the world? nope.

it is completely unprofessional and impolite to book meeting after meeting and consistently rock up 10+ minutes late. if his previous meeting is going overtime - book it for 10 minutes later then, it's not ****ing hard. he's a public servant, he works for the public, meaning he's not our CEO who can turn up whenever he damn well pleases because he pays our wage. it's the opposite.

if he doesn't have the time-management skills to make it to pressers on time, nor the respect to those waiting on news, then what hope has he got in improving our contact ****ing tracing? it's lazy and sends a rubbish message.

as i said, it's principle.

It's a fine line isn't it. Last year's lockdown was basically down to doing too little, too late. This time around it was too much, too soon.

Lol, no it was because he stuffed up hotel quarantine, just like he did this time. He does not do that, none of this is required. Cause and effect, he and his public servants are the greatest threat to Victoria. Its them that keep getting it wrong. Social distancing is easy for me, never liked being around other people.

You mean he should lead by example? Ha ha, nice one. His colleagues use taxpayer expenses illegally, its a 'rort', we do it, its theft and we get charged.

We run a workplace badly and people die, we get charged, they get off with a BS inquiry and no one faces any repercussions.

They spend more than they can afford they pass it on to us in higher taxes etc.

Pull the other one mate, this is standard behavior for our political class and its our fault because we let them get away it. Throw the plebs a few scraps and they think you are doing a great job. Look at ScoMo, all he does is hand money out. He will never have to repay it, he just kicks the can down the road. Well if you look at global bond rates, the shit might be about to hit the fan.

Since the Ruby Princess, NSW have had 3 smaller outbreaks, they've managed them all without shutting down either the whole state or the whole metropolitan area.

Try to imagine it is Christmas Day tomorrow.

...and he has 15 times the cases (ok 15 x 0 =0 but you get my drift). Just like another state had to deal with recently.

Does he continue to kill an entire state for nothing ? Even though there's no basis for it whatsoever ?

He's frustrated because he knows his credibility is shot.

Yes, but as I said, not with the UK strain. That's what got governments spooked.

I think they've been using it to try and spook us.

We must be the luckiest country in the world, we've had this super dooper, hyper, speed of light infectious strain of COVID poke it's head up in 3 different states and it's pretty much gone nowhere in each case.

Sorry I meant the length and severity of last year's lockdown, not the fact it happened it all.

If we'd gone to stage 4 this early last time around it would have saved a lot of pain.
