Vic How would you rate Daniel Andrews' performance as Victorian Premier? - Part 4

The way he talks to journalists, especially the female journos, is an absolute disgrace. Imagine if he was on the "other" side of politics?

As for the grip he has on Labor supporters, the only thing I can think of is that admitting Andrews is a failure means giving the other side some ammunition and a chance at the next election, which of course is intolerable for them. Hence the blind loyalty and the bullying of anyone who dares question him. Leigh Sales, what a right winger she is. 🤣

Remember guys and girls, brutal online abuse towards a female journalist who dares to ask some tough questions is just "constructive feedback" if the abuse is from the twitter left. The hypocrisy is just astounding. I would argue that these idiots are possibly the single biggest handbrake for Labor federally, who wants to be associated with this?

lol i stupidly clicked on that link and got sucked into the twitter cesspool for the past 10 minutes.

farrrkkkk day legit ruined.

i refuse to believe these people are real.

The point is that if we vaccinate the front line workers, we might not need them and there's no point spending squillions on a bunch of cabins that are going to date and rot.

By all means, work out a way of getting returned travellers back for the next pandemic that is outside of metro areas, including this option, but right now it would be a stoopid expense that we can't afford.

We can't afford to continually lock down, call it insurance. It would be a damn side cheaper than the 'insurance' that is the desalination plant down near Wonthaggi.

firstly i dont talk for anyone but myself. Remember most of the left leaning people here consider me right wing scum. And this is one reason i wont put you on ignore, someone needs to correct the lies you post about me.

secondly, i defend the feds because this is driving with a rear vision mirror only while being beat up. people will make mistakes. as long as improvements are made, im accepting that noone has this thing nailed.

And i never directed the safe comment your way, it was directed at those who are saying he keeps us safe as a way to praise him, we have not been kept safe, because as you state it will never be 100%, which is correct.

I'm neither left or right, i sit in the middle, i don't care who gets this right as best they can, as long as they get it right, we cannot say we are even close to that here in any form, or are we just super unlucky in Vic.

wow, it's almost like you have zero self awareness. I'll take your advice, ignore it is for you.

You keep ignoring the vaccine which could and should be in the front line workers next week to minimise or stop the HQ breaches.

Further tighten procedures and vaccinate. There will be fewer leaked cases whether here, WA, Qld or NZ.

And again, as Ned Flanders has articulated above, there is no guarantee of zero breaches from Avalon. Anyone keen enough to escape could walk into the CBD via the Federation trail in 12 hours. And before you know it, red zone, lock down and a big cabin bill to boot!

Do we have stats yet on the vaccines reducing transmissibility? I was of the belief that at this stage they are only confirmed as reducing severity.

Regarding protocols and procedures, from what we've seen we can't trust the Vic government to implement even the most basic of tasks and I think we can be pretty confident that if there are screw-ups in the future they are far more likely to come from here than any other state.

If a Howard Springs popped up at Avalon I'd be keen to stay there, just until the next airshow whenever that is...

Vaccines are no magic bullet either, and there's a big chance of a future strain which the vaccine might be completely hopeless against.

Or some other pandemic for which we would need quarantine stations. We've had quarantine stations as insurance/protection for 90% of white settlement in Australia. Now, when we need it, people are saying they might be white elephants and fall apart. It makes no sense. That's exactly what they're for. Perhaps find an intermittent use for them in the meantime to make use, but we need those facilities (6 months ago).

Early stats from Israel show there is some impact on transmission from Pfizer vaccine, but it is early:

So then it shouldn't matter where the detention is set up, as long as it meets some standards for the detainee

hotels have at least a half decent room. i worry what kind of quality we will get dumping 8000 used mining units in Toowoomba or Avalon, esp when we (as per usual) outsource it to a global security mob

im not for giving these people 5 star accommodation, but we dont need suicides and rapes and beatings like we had with the immigration centres

Election is over a year away and have a look at what the LNP is putting up. They'd have to pull a pretty big rabbit out of their hat to convince us that James Newbury and Tim Smith could do a better job of anything.
Just put the rabbit up for election, I’ll vote for it.

Much fewer than appears, in fact. Multiple accounts run as a bulk deal. Get Up and Sleeping Giants employ these methods, the latter to pressure businesses to withdraw support for coal, etc. It's really only a few actual people running them but they give the impression there's a vast following.

A big part of the problem with hotels are that they aren't fit for purpose. The rooms aren't set up to create negative pressure when opening the door, windows are sealed and so there's a reliance on ducted air. That air is pushed along corridors and it is increasingly recognised that airborne transmission of the virus is an issue. Chuck in increased virulence.

Hotel quarantine was supposed to be a quick solution at the start of the pandemic last year. What's disappointing is not that alternatives haven't been constructed, it's that they've barely been considered. And that comes down to the fact that the tier of government that would construct an alternative (Feds) doesn't want to spend money on this.

it's a social media mirage. a lot of it is bots imo, or paid professionals in his massive social media team. the #istandwithdan crew on twitter are lethal, however i've not come across one in real life - nor on my facebook/instagram feed.

he's got the ALP die hard boomers on his side because he's patriotic about Victoria and boomers barrack for their political party like a goddamn footy team. he has a lot of of the youth on side because he's been good for the "woke" stuff. makes a post about something LBTQ+ related and the 18-35 yr olds jizz themselves.

it seems the frustration with him this time around is getting louder, it's just a shame there is zero opposition. michael o'brien is a banana.

Pretty much covers it all.

Labor are hopeless, their leader has done a terrible job, but the Opposition doesnt exist.

Question borne of genuine ignorance - NSW are using hotels still, right? If so, why are the problems that are occurring in Victoria not happening there?

That's because each state's response to this UK variant has been faster and harder despite fewer cases than with previous covid versions. No one is taking the risk with this UK variant just to prove to the doubters it's more infectious. Greater Brisbane and Perth went into immediate lockdowns while Victoria is now in lockdown for 5 days when it hardly altered the "covid-normal" rules for the Black Rock outbreak (originally from NSW) despite the latter having more cases.
WA and Qld didn't even spread to close contacts
Australia Open worker case didn't spread and then this Holiday Inn cluster has spread less in the 1st week prior to lockdown than the Black Rock cluster

Maybe Australian conditions are condusive to it not spreading as easily

My understanding is the outdoor lifestyle and summer weather helps prevent the spread (more Vitamin D and all that).
