Mate, with respect (and I mean that) don't tell me to take a deep breath after rebuking me for asking what you considered an "idiot question."

It is not an idiotic question. People need to be able to plan their lives. There is certainly going to be situations (and there will be plenty of them) where my examples are valid. Vaccinated, healthy people WILL have to cancel international trips. People WILL have to cancel weddings. People WILL have to miss funerals...all because some bureaucrat decides that they were in a Coles within an hour of some infected anti-vaxxer.

And the flow on effect of these things is enormous.

No vaccine is 100% effective but we don't lock down whenever somebody gets the flu, and that vaccine is nowhere near as effective as the Covid jab. You can still get Covid after being jabbed, at no point have I argued that you can't. But the effects are minor in almost all cases.

People need to be able to plan their lives ... people want our Governments to make that possible when it is not possible.

workers flying in to bolster hospital network ..... we have been used to fireys reinforcing our numbers, not medics:
'Victoria will fly in 350 medical staff from overseas to ease the pressure on its weary health system, as doctors warn hospital staffing plans are urgently needed to prepare for the next phase of the pandemic.
  • The staff will begin work across 30 health services by October
  • The Australian Medical Association has warned furloughing dozens of staff after each hospital exposure is not sustainable
  • Victoria has recorded 45 new local cases, the majority of whom were in the community while infectious
The pandemic has put immense strain on health systems around the world and hundreds of Victorian staff have been furloughed after COVID-19 exposure at key hospitals, including the Royal Melbourne Hospital and in Shepparton.'

You cant always get what you want:

None of those things are good mate. Shitty in fact.

But to your last point, this is exactly my point. We must to live with this thing. Living under fear of lockdown, living in a state of uncertainty is no way to live.

Other infectious diseases have not resulted in the measures we have taken for this one. And not for as long either, certainly not in the last 100 years or so. We cannot continue to live in this manner. People have lost hope. I know I have. Not to the point of doing anything rash but to the point where I don't have any faith that we won't be living in manufactured fear for many, many years to come. For every week of lockdown I am in the hole for thousands. And all I am trying to do is sell my apartment. Others are having their life's work torn from them. For what?

Th UK may have stuffed up last year but they have it absolutely right now. Cases have gone up but the number of those cases that are serious are something like 1 in 1000 and amongst the unvaccinated. No vaccinated person over there is burdened with the thought that their government may rip the rug from under them at any time. The Germans and the French are the same. Vaccinated people have their lives back. Not 80% or their lives, not 90%. They are free to come and go as they please, travel, go to a movie, etc without fear of the government locking them inside because they looked at a Covid infected person across the street.

In fact, unless you are medically exempt form vaccination I would like to see them report unvaccinated deaths as an entirely separate number (once we've all had our chance). That number, no matter how high should then be irrelevant to what measures the government put in place. The same goes with unvaccinated hospitalisations. These should have zero bearing on any regulation going forward. They should also stop reporting non-hospitalised case numbers. Again, these should have no bearing on measures taken.

But I will bet my BF account that we will continue to be held to ransom by data that is manipulated to enforce measures that are unnecessary.
They absolutely have, just not in Australia.

Given this is the first major infectious disease pandemic to touch our shores since the Spanish Flu, it is no wonder restrictions similarly match those employed in 1918.

Mask wearing, lockdowns, social distancing, even a vaccine push. Also, many high vaccine jurisdictions either have many heavy restrictions still in place or are looking at their reintroduction.

He has stuffed up big time according to today's parliamentary enquiry

I've been busy so haven't followed. But is the allegation that Sutton knew that the reports and photographs by the Dandenong council were falsified?
If that's the case then I hope he copes his right whack.

If however, he is guilty of purely accepting the findings of the report then shouldn't those responsible at the Dandenong Council be the guilty ones?

What is your hunch that they are hiding?
Another HQ breach? Or the extent of al taqwa rule breaking?
Im racking my brain as to what is so damaging that they would hide.

I suspect it will show most, if not all, of the current outbreak is linked to LD5, evidencing that either they opened up to early or the testing site breach ceded this LD.

Are they trying to hide something?

Or, what might we be able to deduce from the data if they released it?

I really don't know, its very odd to go from weekly updates to nothing in more than a month. Every other jurisdiction in the region is uploading samples so it seems like a deliberate decision to hold off uploading. It could be that they are doing a big batch once a month from now on, but that window is fast closing and would be unique for the region.

If they did upload the samples, I think we'd be able to see pretty clearly if the outbreak is a continuation of the original incursions via the removalists or Cragieburn Coles family, or if it's from another person/s returning from NSW.

I'd find it highly unlikely it's from somewhere other than NSW, but if it were, the samples would reveal that.

Australia wide, it's a month since any other variant has been detected in Australia.

Finally got through to the website after trying all day. Everything's booked out. :(
Calling worked for me, good luck. Just try a few times if it doesn't connect. There were both Pfizer and AZ bookings today still available.

Another person I know booked in for tomorrow.

Just request an upto 14-28 day search and specify you are able to travel outside of your nearest postcodes.

I suspect it will show most, if not all, of the current outbreak is linked to LD5, evidencing that either they opened up to early or the testing site breach ceded this LD.
I suspect that is probably it, but there was also talk of an infected passenger on another flight from Sydney. Regardless there isn't much they can do, but it would support the need for much stronger border controls with NSW, if we are even able to get this outbreak under control.

Thanks, I wasn't sure of the numbers on it.

So, that being a given how do you propose people plan for life's milestones and events? There are going to be tens of thousands of vaccinated people being forced into at least a 24 iso-wait at any given time.

How do you plan a wedding? Will the government compensate every guest who has booked flights and a hotel for a wedding that is cancelled?
How do you book an airfare in good faith? What if you get a DHHS advice to test and isolate at your foreign destination?

I'd like to know how you manage these sorts of things without dismissing them as idiotic and selfish. It is not selfish to plan a wedding or a holiday.

And these are only two of thousands of examples where this falls down.

its selfish to say you get to board a plane when you know you are potentially infected

and you know what, after the engagement party peoples smugness, i frankly dont give two shits about these events. They put their love and special event ahead of public safety, and we were royally ****ed as a result

risk management is a scale, its not an on off switch

case in point. consider your vaccination like building your home out of fire resistant materials. Just because you do that doesnt mean you get to not have a water tank with a pump, backburn, ensure your power lines are clear and so on. This will be a multi-layered response, and if someone if your office has covid, i dont think its too much to be in iso for 12 hrs waiting for a test result.

A universal issue I've found with Aussie websites during this lockdown. Whoever the big contractors are for our major ecommerce platforms have some sh*t to sort out.
Probably the same campaigners who did the nbn

Hey, The Cryptkeeper, look at what this person called you!

I'm an old hand. Not the first time, won't be the last time.

I didn't take offence mate.

I am bloody frustrated (as we all are) and slowly going broke through all of this. And as we watch the rest of the world get on with their lives our leaders, state and federal are dong sweet f*** all in real terms. 60,000 at Spurs Stadium in London last week, not a mask in sight yet we have an empty MCG through September because nobody can come up with a workable plan. I do not trust the modelling, I do not trust politicians to keep their word and I do not have any faith that I will see my ailing 81 year old father again given he lives in NSW. My fully vaccinated wife missed her 99 year old grandmother's funeral last month due to restrictions. I hope it's the first and last time I ever have to sit through a funeral on Skype.

Yet I make a statement about vaccinated people being left to get on with things and I am suddenly a "let it rip" guy. Well I frankly do not give a sh*t. I have voted Labor my whole life so I laugh at the sort of commentary that suggests I am a "right wing" projectionist although I did the same to Deliverance once so can see how it happens.
