Vic How would you rate Daniel Andrews' performance as Victorian Premier?

It's not a step forward for society, but it could be a step forward for the Victorian Liberal's aim for power. The Trump/Boris/Tim Smiths of the world are steps backwards for society but there seems to be something that conservatives are attracted to in them. Now, I don't think someone like Tim Smith would become close to that level of success in Victoria, but I wouldn't rule it out either. The right seem to be gravitating to moronic boof heads these days.
Trump is a cunning political operator, a bit more sophisticated than ive seen on Smith.

To the extent Aus follows ... at the last election Aus made up its own mind, much to the chagrin of the political pundits.

$1650 for being out of the house without an 'excuse' did.

Yeah, but I suspect you'd be complaining if cases were sky rocketing because there were no temporary rules to try to contain covid.

No one is saying there should not be some temporary rules. But the other states have contained their cases without imposing such a harsh penalty system.

Victoria 5,604 fines of $1,652.
NSW 1,200 fines of $1,000.
Queensland 1,664 fines of $1334.
WA 90 fines of $1,000.
SA 36 fines of $1,000.

Victoria is also the only state where cafes and restaurants are still unable to seat diners. I live in a small town. There are 10 cafes and small restaurants that could seat 10 diners at any one time, as is allowed in NSW. That is their regular business. Yet the Premier has determined on their behalf that it would be economically unviable.

Maybe. The Victorian government spent $8 million on setting up 50 beds on two disused floors of a hospital in Geelong. So far not one patient. Apparently this is success.
There will be a spike from increased transmission in the future, it's a matter of when, not if. And at that point we'll need to be prepared, with more resources including more hospital beds. This is called forward planning. I know that's an unfamiliar concept for conservatives, but I assure you it can be invaluable.

You're not even wrong. The Conservative government in the UK built many more extra beds for Covid-19 patients. They are also all empty as the regular hospitals could cope with the numbers of people coming in.

Are you saying that Andrew's policy is to relax the restrictions knowing it will cause a spike in severe illness due to Covid-19?

The UK Conservatives, for all their faults, are unlike the Republicans or the LNP in some respects. They take climate change seriously and have had two female leaders. It isn't surprising that they've taken a different tack.

I'm just an average joe, I know nothing about what Andrews' strategy is.

Just 6 weeks to go and Dan will have finally delivered on his biggest election promise of 2014, one which has come at an enormous cost to taxpayers.

They even put the UFU logo in the new FRV logo just to ram home the point that they now run the states fire services.

Wut? 2014 was the East West Link election.

i think it was well reported that at the start the police werent being reasonable enough - learner drivers, fined at cemetery etc but Im sure this was addressed and the number of fines decreased significantly

I presume you’d prefer this to be at the business owners discretion? I would have preferred that option but at the peak we did see businesses try to ignore rules..

lol, Dan doesn’t get elected without his UFU deal, they were the boots on the ground spreading lies and disinformation at polling booths and throughout all of 2014.
Good rewriting of history. The 2010-14 LNP government shot itself in the foot and were the architects of their own demise as they simply did not do enough.

UFU and the dodgy red shirts helped the ALP but the LNP gave people no reason to vote for them. Same thing is happening now, Dans decision to proudly proclaim his loyalty to President Xi might cost him.a few votes but the ALPs lack of backbone and loyalty is more a federal issue, Dan can still point to infrastructure builds, fairly good mgmt of the Wuhan flu etc whereas the LNPs plan for govt is to ?????? and whilst Dan is showing a love for being a dictator, at least people know his name unlike the LNPs "leadership" team that probably needs to have their faces put up on missing person websites.

There were a few fines that were reversed after the media highlighted them. But it was never made clear whether the policy had changed e.g. could you take your kids for a driving lesson? The policy was unclear and the police implementation of it arbitrary and over the top.

The number of fines in Victoria was a level above any other states. Yet all states controlled the spread of the virus.

The stated reason for the continued ban was that opening to up to 10 seated customers was unviable. It's nonsense. Of course business owners know best whether or not it is viable for them to have up to 10 seated customers. Why would Daniel Andrews think he knows better?

Helped along by a massive campaign of lies and misinformation.

My favourite was the “closed” fire stations which occurred any time they reverted to volunteer manning. Most of them were because the UFU basically told people not to take overtime shifts so any gaps couldn’t be filled. Funnily enough over the last 6 years, fire stations still revert to volunteer manning and yet not a word from the union since the end of 2014...

So either we're over fined in the nanny state or we're a state filled with yokels who can't obey the rules.
Proud to be Victorian :drunk:

Been a lot of that these last couple of months... "Victoria is the only state"

What are everyones thoughts on Victoria signing up to China's Belt and Road Initiative ?

Labor signing up to sell Victoria the Chinese. The link above shows how Sri Lanka built a massive port where no ships go resulting in the port plus 10,000 acres being handed over to the Chinese.
