Wow. Surely andrews now has to resign within days. If he didnt know he would of said he didnt know.

No one can defend him any more.
You underestimate the resolve of the LWNJ

What is a manageable number though? If the hotel security bungle has led to almost the entire outbreak in the state, then not even 1 is a manageable number.

As for what i would do i don't know. Maybe hard 1 week lockdowns (like the towers had) and test everyone in any suburbs that have cases.
Yep I don’t know- 20-40-Would be manageable if we have lots of testing and a really tight confinement strategy? Like an isolation unit somewhere ‘Isolated’, and any positive person is taken straight to there for 2 weeks. And all their contacts are tested. And we learn from mistakes and the iso unit is managed really well.
The pattern that is happening here, is happening in places all over the world so maybe we can see who has done it well after getting 2nd second spike under control.

Yeah, $60/kg is profiteering.
During spring/summer i grow my own basil, thyme, parsley, oregano and bay leave (all do okay during winter except the basil)
i am in a townhouse, so they are in pots and do well. Could do with more sunlight, but they get enough.
Haven't had to buy those herbs for a few years, the supermarkets screw you with price and they don't last long.
Next spring i will put in coriander as well.
DIY, i havent got a green thumb, just got sick of paying and it is a bit of fun.
Coriander is a tricky one to grow

Good cos it tastes awful. One of a very short list of herbs and spices I haven't enjoyed on my learning journey to being a foodie.

Those calling for Andrews to resign.

Who's your suggested best replacement? Pallas?
Who cares. At least they will know that ensuring border quarantine is implemented effectively is a non negotiable if they want to keep their job. This is potentially a major crime against the nation. People go to prison for much less.

Really? In the middle of a crisis, you want to just toss out a government with no thought for who you're putting in their place?

I have it on reasonable authority Dan wanted 12 weeks straight up, but was told to soften the blow with six to start with, it will take minor miracle for it to be any less than 12 weeks.
Is that why he bungled the hotel quarantine and refused the close the state borders?

That 'el show 'em Dan

I am not an Andrews' fan (nor a Labor one) but I think talk of immediate resignation is nonsense. He knows and we know that he ****ed it on the hotel quarantine matter and that accountability for this will occur in due time. No use politicising it now. Let him deal with the issues that require his attention. To be honest, I find it hard to see him not taking an ultra conservative approach on every decision moving forward in the coming months (and on that basis there's unlikely to be another monumental **** up).

He's not resigning now. But I'll be surprised if he is still around come time for the next election.

If he survives the inquiry, it will be a dignifed and stage-managed exit near the end of next year.

My read of the leaked emails is they already have their fall guy lined up. I think they'll try and save Andrews an exit per your post.

Thats not true. Just next time dont f*** up hotel quarantine. Once the virus is gone from the community which in most states it has then its only border failures that bring it back into the community.

TBH i wouldnt be surprised if he and a bunch of the other premiers resign after this is done

similar to being a pm during war time, the drain on these peeps would be immense

This second wave of the crisis is completely their fault. It wouldnt exist otherwise. And im not chucking out the entire government. Just the leader who is ultimately responsible and 1 or 2 others who managed the hotel quarantine fiasco. It appears andrews knew about the problems in march and did nothing. He is no longer fit to manage this crisis.

Who would want to be a Premier, let alone during a Pandemic?

Too many negative voices.

They have to make hard decisions to get us through.
It was not a hard decision. It was a very easy decision that he failed to get right. It will cost livesand certainly will extend the recession atleast two months.

This is bordering on criminal negligence.

Right, so who is going to do the job better? Who do you want?

That never happens. Stop making ridiculous excuses for andrews. Its bordering on trump fan boy level.
Have you seen the bullying Qld Premiers endured daily. sco Mo, Deb Frecklington and media. She was made out to have nfi, when she kept our borders closed.

People here think she buckled under intense pressure and should have kept the border locked another 2 weeks.

"Hey doc, I know I have cancer and I started chemo, but it has been 2 days and I don't feel any better. So I think we should stop the chemo"

With this level of intellectual super weight, no wonder why Australia's in good shape
Nice bloke you are. So thoughtful.

More things we are not allowed to know about right now.

While there is always a delay in the results getting submitted to NextStrain and they might be blocking submissions at the moment, NextStrain https://nextstrain.org/ncov/oceania?c=country_exposure&p=full&r=location shows the last Victoria sample was submitted a week ago for a test collected on June 20th.

I'd keep an eye there in case more cases get submitted before the inquiry. While I'm no authority on this and could be interpreting the tree incorrectly, and suggest you make up your own mind /await for the experts, there looks to be 3 clear and continuing clusters for Victoria, with the first detection occurring in mid-May, with descendant strains detected in late May. This would seem to align with the media stories regarding the Rydges and Stamford hotel outbreaks and CHO statements.

Below is the area I'm looking at for the above link for Next Strain (or click here), you can hover over the dots to see information about the sample (State, date, age and sex of patient in some cases, the lab the test was done VIDRL and MDU-PHL = Victorian Infectious Diseases Reference Laboratory and Microbiological Diagnostic Unit Public Health Laboratory Uni Melb) and click the lines to see the lineage and common links and changes in the Genome. https://nextstrain.org/help/general/how-to-read-a-tree for more information on reading the tree.

you need to get your head out of your arse.

im saying it for all three of the east coast premier. they would be working 18 hour days 7 days a week for the last 5 months, and may have another year to go

after its done, would you want to go back to debating the merits of a new level crossing?
