I understand it has only been 3 rounds, But I was just going through all the Best forward combinations in the competition and looking at the stats, I found it very interesting that
Ryder and Hurley are contributing 7.6 Goals a game between them
Cloke and Dawes are contributing 6.3 goals a game between them
Franklin and Roughead are contributing 6 goals a game between them
Tippett and Walker are contributing 4 goals between them.

I was Just astounded that Ryder and Hurley in their 1st season forward together are contributing the most amount of goals. defenetly with Ryder Rucking 20% of the game time.
I understand also Franklin is the best forward, but his kicking is what lets him down.
They may be a very powerful combination for many years to come.

Pretty hard on Tippet since he's only played one game back from injury, Walker has supplied the 4 goals a game on his own.

Does 'small sample size' not exist as an English phrase on Bigfooty? If so, Chief, I'd like to know your motivations for telling people not to take it into consideration when making threads.

But if it increases traffic to the site, by all means continue.

hurley will be a superstar.no question.but i would take just franklin over any pairing you can combine with the names mentioned including roughead. but thats just me.

Franklin is the best forward in the comp, this is not desputing that, this is just showing how well Hurley and Ryder together up forward, have been contributing as many goals as any other pair in the league.

very much like a Lloyd and Lucas combo.

Cloke/Dawes are 2 bonafide power forwards. Not many defences will be able to contain them this year.

Might have to do more with how often/perfectly they are being fed the ball rather than their own prowess.

yeah 3 games in is maybe a bit early to be throwing out Lloyd/Lucas comparisons

I read the op and thought what damage do we have to contend with here, But it does show some great combinations for many years to come.

Dawes and Cloke well they have been awesome, very powerful and Clokes hands have been excellent for a couple of years now, Dawes is really starting to shine.

Franklin and Roughead they have been thrashed, so nothing new here.

Walker and Tippett are defenetly the most interesting pair, tippett looked to have a break out year and since has gone backwards, Walker is coming along nice, but misses some very basic shots, yet slots some absolute beauties.

Ryder and Hurley, others can make comment on Essendons pair

Travis won a Copeland at 21 with a middle tier midfield. Took the most contested marks of any player in the AFL, one of the most important prowesses for a forward. Statement doesn't really hold.

Stupid reading of the stats in isolation.

Example.
Ryder takes a mark and handballs to Hurley in the goal square - goal contributions 1 to Ryder and 1 to Hurley.

Franklin takes a mark and goes back and kicks the goal - goal contibutions 1 to Franklin and none to Roughhead.

Conclusion from stats - the Essendon combination have been twice as effective as they have double the amount of goal contributions, despite contributing the same number of goals.

Nonetheless I want the Collingwood pair to win this one, so I'm hoping that Cloke and Dawes handball to each other whenever they mark it in range. Even though it will probably result in less accuracy and 30% less goals for the team being kicked by these two, it will increase their accumulated goal contributions.

On performance to date as keyforwards it is
Franklin>>>tippet>roughead>cloke>>Hurley, Ryder, Dawes, Walker

In the order I would want at my club it would go
1 franklin 2 tippet 3 walker 4 Dawes 5 cloke

We are not comparing Cloke and Dawes to Johnson and Mooney.
If anything Ryder is the most unselfish player in the AFL, take a mark 20m out directly in front H/Balls to Zaka for a goal. still it was Ryder's brilliant hands which took the mark.

You want Cloke and Dawes to win this one, Hurley and Ryder have played 3 games up forward together and are matching the best, who cares which combo is the best, each supporter base love their own pair the most.

How could you possibly have Tippett ahead of Roughhead and Cloke on performance to date?

Do you understand the statistic that you are rhapsodising over? Ryder gets the same number of goal contributions for handballing to Zaka as he would have for going back and kicking the goal.
