Hypothetical: Next Collingwood coach? (Think this is disrespectful? OK, OK, we get it)

Is this thread out of line?

  • This is embarrassing, we should all be supporting Buckley.

  • Buckley won't be coach forever, let's have an adult conversation about his replacement

Can't be assed going through the thread, has anyone mentioned Craig Jennings? Done his time o the assistant circuit, currently with the Dees, I played junior footy with him and he was the second best in the league so followed his career, he is a genuine footy brain and decent bloke

Saw him party extremely hard after a premiership in 95.. haha

B.Scott 8th, 8th, 6th, 10th, 8th and bot 4 now.

Minimal access to top end draft talent given a directive in his first few seasons by the board that North can't afford to be bottom 4.

Vs

B.Ratten
Care taker 15th, 11th, 7th, 8th, 5th, 10th. Sacked with a year to run.

Multiple number 1 picks big signing in judd and a bevy of top 10s with Fevola in his prime.

I feel Ratten will be better equipped 2nd time around having been working alongside Alistair Clarkson during the years of their 3 peat.

Sorry guys Bucks will be coaching next year at the pies. As long as there are no 10+ Goal thumping he will get one more go around before he is at a loss to explain the results. The club review will turn up that they need a director of coaching and a head of football department in support. It will also show that Collingwood need not to worry about the AFL tax and spend what it takes to win. Mainly because the money generated in return from winning outweighs any losses incurred in the tax. All speculation of course but I reckon I will be close.

B.Ratten>>>>>>>>>>>>Daylight>>>>>>>> More daylight>>>>>> Brad Scott>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> N. Buckley.

What will probably happen is Eddie will do something stupid and sign Voss and I will turn off the TV and have a little cry.

They dont get rid of him there will be riots surely they couldnt be that stupid

I have a radical idea. We could open the role up to applications from a wide range of candidates, and appoint a selection committee with some diverse experience. We could then sift through those candidates based on relevant experience, training and education and background checking, and prepare a list of say 5 to 6 to progress to the next stage. We could then call these 5 or 6 in for an interview where we ask them to identify how they will make the club successful, and what their plan is for the short, medium and long term. Based on this, and further checking with current and former employers, we make a decision about who we believe will deliver success.

Or otherwise Ed could just appoint Burns because he liked him as a player.

This is funny :) Problem is it's also pretty much how we have done it in the past.

Whateley said on the radio this morning that "He Believes".... as soon as Collingwood has the 11th loss and it is mathematically impossible for it to make the finals this year that Bucks would hold himself accountable and would resign. He said he holds Buckley in high regard and that whilst his coaching career at Collingwood hadn't worked out the way he wanted it to be, that he would not hesitate (if he were another club's administrator) to offer Buckley a coaching position should he seek it.

Somehow Whateley always makes things that have so much passion attached to them, feel like a stock market report!

IMO Whately has lost a lot of credibility from his association with Robbo on AFL 360. He has allowed low journalistic standards to flourish on that program, and is now tainted by association. It hasn't done his reputation any favours.

Saying that, Whately has shown respect for Bucks and I have no doubt that Bucks will have other offers, be they assistant coaching or media gigs. All would pay considerably less than his current position, but I'm sure (being a smart man) that he has planned for that.

Well he is a NERD.

Didn't he say earlier in the year that we should Re-Sign Bucks?

Have you been watching Revenge of the Nerds, Dave?
Bolton is a footy nerd and he seems to know his stuff.
As for Whately's comments, this has more to do with what Bucks would do rather than what Whately thinks Bucks should do.

New candidate: Luke Hodge

Why: Quite simply he is Leigh Matthews mark 2. Collingwood were smart enough to hire Matthews immediately when he retired. They should do the same with Hodge. Already a great coach on the field. No doubt he will transition well to become a great coach off the field.

At a minimum he should be got as an assistant coach. Pair him with Ratten if need be.

Membership is in rapid decline.
Crowd attendance is in rapid decline.
The list is distorted overwhelmingly with midfielders.
Where do we stop.
There must be change...
